My female love bird keeps laying eggs

My female lovebird age 3, lays new eggs almost every month. She sits on them for a while and then abandons them just to lay eggs again a week after. Is this normal? This happened with our previous lovebird female aswell which has sadly passed. Might the male be the cause of this?

Hardwood floor varnish

We got a notice that our apartment hardwood floors are to be varnished/ refinished on October 22. How long do birds have to be away from the apartment post work done ? This is stressing me out and lot as I just took a 2 week vacation end of September into October during which I boarded my birds $ as the tub was going to be reglazed and bathroom painted which was done the next day we left so there was plenty of time for the apartment to air out( I had my friend go and make sure windows were open for cross ventilation and fans on) . It is a busy season for me at work now to do the whole boarding prep thing with transfer of cage and supplies and drive to and back the sitters. I am not sure what to do , thinking should I refuse the work ( floors are in bad shape though) .

Anyone know the time frame to keep them away and any other advice ?

Destroying toys

My lovebird pair has destroyed all their toys in their cage and I’ve already bought them new ones only for them to destroy those too. I let them fly out every night but unfortunately their cage looks a mess with all the broken toys. I don’t know what to do. Does anyone have some helpful advice?

Second Egg Laying!

hello! my 2 year old baby laid her second ever egg on sunday. the first time she ever laid was january of this year, but it was only one egg and she wanted nothing to do with it. the same case has happened this time as well, just laid the egg and continued about her day.

however, it looks like a second one is getting ready to come out. on sunday after the first egg, she seemed a bit sleepier and only wanted to cuddle and rest. monday she’s back to her normal energetic self, still eating/drinking/pooping/etc. i can tell she’s got a bit of a tummy and that the next egg should come out soon, but i want to be prepared.

when should i be worried about egg binding? will she lay later today? is there anything i can do to help? i just want to be on top of this bc she’s my baby :)

Lovebirds keeping me awake

My lovebirds have recently started to screech at night and wake me up every single hour. They are so loud and its absolutely quiet, they are covered. My room is pitch black since I have black out curtains. I have to wake up at 5 am for work. But they continue to screech all night and scream even more as I get ready for work. Anything I can do? Its really annoying only because I am such a light sleeper. And its only my lovebirds continously being loud all night.

Rest in Peace Wilbur

My little bird son died two days ago from complications connected to his PBFD. He was really young and I’m feeling very sad about it. I just wanted people to know how great he was and how much I loved him, but I feel like people who don’t have birds don’t understand it. He still had his little peach colored eyebrows and a single green feather on his little head when he passed away. Just coming here to get some emotional support. 💔😢

Lovebird has been trying to eat salt and even cumin. Mineral block?

I have a rosy face/peach face lovebird that is about 6 years old. I have a bunch of different spices in a corner of the kitchen and some salt had spilled at some point and I caught her there and removed her not yet seeing the salt. She was back the next day. This time I cleaned up the salt but again she was back and this time found Cumin and began eating that. She did not like being pulled away so I suspect she is missing some nutrients. I feed her Mazuri pellets, some millet, lettuce, cucumber, rice, bits of this and that from whatever I eat. She always helps herself to whatever I am eating. Does anyone use any sort of mineral block for their birds? anything I can add? thanks

Behaviour Issues

Hello everybody, I have 3 Peachfaces I’ve owned for about 1 year. They are all in seperate cages and allowed out together daily. Two of the peachfaces are fine with me and don’t have any issues, one of them I can’t touch the cage, try to change the water or food or anything. She/he grabs onto me and latches until I shake her/him off. She/he chases my other peachfaces as well. She/he is drawing blood to both myself and my partner and we are at a loss of what to do. I’m unsure of there genders as well. 😭 I love my babies but I’m so confused on what to do

A good balance between hormones and toys?

Hi all,

I'm having a really tough time with my lovebird at the moment!!!

She is currently sitting on a clutch of 6 plastic eggs as I have replaced the 3 she has laid already and snuck in a few extras.
I'm really just struggling to find a really good balance between keeping her stimulated while not triggering her hormonally. She absolutely loves shredding toys, chewing wooden platforms etc. and Is the most engaged lovebird I have had with her toys.

Removing the toys she can use as nesting material does stop her from egg laying, but I feel her safe space looks really depressing when I last did that and she just doesn't seem as happy. I tried giving her a play area outside of the cage, up high on the walls, but she ends up just sitting on the curtain rail, chewing at the cornice instead and extra defensive, as much as I redirect her!!

I believed she may be a chronic egg layer and hormonal injection would be my last resort but emptying her space almost completely worked the first time. It was just super sad looking.

But I'd like to see if anyone else has similar experiences before I consult the avian vet about the injection?

  • I change the toys and platform space regularly,
  • I have reduced daylight hours to 8,
  • She has no access to a nesting box or enclosed space like happy hut etc. All materials within the cage are natural fibres, paper, wood.
  • She has access to calcium, is actively eating at the cuttlefish bone and getting off her clutch to eat/drink.
  • The first set of eggs she laid earlier in the year were one every month for three months! I was checking she wasn't egg bound too and leaving the unfertile eggs until she was bored. She never sat on these and just let them drop to bottom of the cage.
  • She has now chosen the wooden puzzle platform I only added in Monday to sit on her clutch
  • She is also bonded with her partner. I separated them earlier in the year when she was laying one egg each month.

Thank you for any advice! Please be kind, this is my first time dealing with egg laying like this and I am trying my best! I am open to all and any help and just want the best for my birb <3

Why was my bird doing this?

So, it was 7:51am for us when one of my lovebirds was dipping it's head into the water. Is this some kind of virus or do I need it to go to the vet?

And, it did that while the other lovebirds was watching, And it randomly flapped back to normal. It tried to escape but it couldn't. What is this lovebird doing?

Please state me for help.

Head flybys lol

So my two love birds when out love to fly around. But they they fly from their favorite spot in the house to the cage, they fly as close as possible over my head lol. They are not hand tame, so what would you guys consider this? 🤔

Hypotetically, could it be possible for a lovebird and a conure to be in the same cage?

Hi, I own a young lovebird, which I hand-raised. I'm not planning to get another bird now or in the near future; however I wondered if in the future I got a conure instead of another lovebird (which I would hand raise too probably) wheter they could share one bigger cage togheder (and perhaps bond to each other) instead of two separate ones. By the way my lovebird is a male, and at least to me is very tame

Need help!

Hey guyssss so after my last post, took my birdies to the vet , she said they were relatively healthy, gave me some advice and instructions ect ...

This is my 3rd week of owning them , I decided to let them out of their cage for the first time (in my house) yesterday, made sure there were no candles/anything toxic for them , closed the doors in the hallway and opened the cage to let them out but they wouldn't come out , so since they kinda move away from me when I get closer , I led them to the cage doors (after 30 min of them sitting there not comming out) but i think they were never allowed to fly bfr ???? My vet didn't say anything abt that , they bumbed into walls and could barely fly for a few seconds (broke my heart and I almost cried) I made sure their wings weren't clipped and I have another appointment with the vet (she told me its bcs they never came out of their cage )but its in a few weeks (I live quite far) and im scared that if I get the bigger cage for my birds they will fall and injure themselves constantly as they cant really fly . How can I help them in the meantime??? Do any of you have experience with this ? And they were really really frightened of me even tho I isn't come close to them (and I understand that building trust might even take years so im patient in that aspect)

Any advice is welcome 🙏

Help needed

My lovebirds had always been pooping dark green-the normal poop. But recently they have been pooping light green with lot of water, sometimes just water. Its making me worry. Should I give them any medicine? My friend whos looking after 2 chickens said they are also pooping the same and thats why she is giving them medicine. Is it because the season is changing in my country thats why my birds her chickens have been pooping lime?

How can I adapt the cage for my splayed leg young agapornis/lovebird?

He struggles to stay propped up on both legs, so he usually is at the edge of the cage and uses the "broken" leg sort of as a hand. To sleep, however, I notice he tries to balance himself with both both legs spread apart, and cuddles next to momma. At night, when they are preparing to sleep, I hear the baby flapping its wings because he loses balance and falls. He falls and loses balance multiple times.

Sadly, this baby lovebird was born with this leg deformity (or had it shortly after birth, not sure). I looked it up and unfortunately it's too late to try to fix the leg because the bones have hardened. I came into the picture later, but I still want to give it a better life. I feel sad every time I see him struggling.

I wanna adapt the cage for him but I am not sure how to do it, and also if I should do it in the ssme cage as the parents, or separate him in an adapted cage?

I also fear his legs hurt because I think when I touch the upper leg, he shakes a lot like he is sensitive in that area. less

Hi, i have a lovebird recently that i decided to adopt. Not sure about the bird's age but he/she is the sweetest and cutest thing ever. It always ask for head scratches and not violent at all and extremely friendly.

The only thing is when it starts to preen me it is always to a point where it breaks the skin. Any tips to guide the bird to preen less hard?

Thank you much for all the advise and time for reading all thesr~
