Tags: What they mean and when to use them!

32 Upvotes

I'm noticing a lot of mis-tagged posts on the sub and I just wanted to clarify what these tags mean and where they should be used.

[LOST] This means a film/show/episode is completely unavailable.

If I can find it on YouTube, it's not lost. If there was a VHS edition released 20 years ago you can find on eBay, it's not lost. Lost means "Presumably gone forever, no longer an item on the face of the earth."

[FOUND] This means a film/show/episode previously believed to be lost forever has been discovered and confirmed to exist in some format.

For example: Cry Baby Lane, while it did wind up existing in it's original format, Nickelodeon said they had no record of it, therefore it met the definition of a [LOST] film that was later [FOUND]. Lost Doctor Who episodes keep showing up in New Zealand and Mozambique and the like, and therefore meet the definition of [FOUND].

Found doesn't mean "I couldn't remember the name, but then I did and bought the DVD from Amazon!"

[OUT OF PRINT] This means a previously available work still exists in it's original format but is not commercially available to the public. Out of Print, within the context of our sub, also means "Commercially Unavailable".

For example: Pepper Ann was never released on home video or DVD, and is no longer being aired in rerun. There are some episodes on youtube, but they're fan recordings and not from the original source. The full run of the show does still exist in Disney's vaults, therefore it's [OUT OF PRINT].

If you're not sure where your post belongs, a good rule of thumb is if it was made after 1980 and saw wide release, be it a film or TV show, it's probably not lost, just out of print.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Please use r/tipofmytongue if you are looking for the name of a film. This sub is for content that is believed to either no longer exist or has recently been found

113 Upvotes

We've received quite a few messages from users complaining about the number of "Does anyone know the name of this film?" posts this subreddit gets.

While we generally let the community decide if a post belongs here and try to follow up, we've received enough messages that it's pertinent we remind folks that a sub such as r/tipofmytongue is more well suited for this and also receives more traffic so more eyes are likely to see your post.

Moving forward, these types of posts will be deleted, just to keep the clutter down.

Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for being a part of the community!

LOST Who Will I Sentence Now (1978)

9 Upvotes

A National Film Board of Canada documentary about toxic work environments.
Outtake clips can be found on the NFB web site (which list 1973 as the date), but my admittedly somewhat perfunctory search seemed to indicate that they don't have a copy... or a digitized one, at the very least.
Nor does it show up anywhere else on line outside of mentions that it exists.

OUT OF PRINT [1999] Julie and the Cadillacs: looking for a complete copy of this obscure British musical film

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

I'm looking for a complete copy of Julie and the Cadillacs (1999), a British musical drama directed by Bryan Izzard. The film appears to be extremely difficult to find today, and I'm hoping someone in this community might know more about its distribution history or the whereabouts of a surviving copy.

There is substantial evidence that the film existed. The British Council's UK Films Database lists it as a completed feature with a runtime of 102 minutes, shot on 35mm Kodak film. The cast includes Tina Hall (credited as Tina Russell), Ben Richards, Peter Polycarpou, Toyah Willcox, Victor Spinetti and Thora Hird. The film is set in 1964 and follows a young Liverpool singer and her backing band as they travel to London in pursuit of musical success.

Evidence and existing sources:

The film also had an original soundtrack album. One of its tracks is called "Sweat", and surviving soundtrack listings document other songs from the production. The existence of clips, soundtrack material and contemporary reviews confirms that the film was released and that at least some related materials have survived.

We have already made several attempts to find a complete copy. We contacted someone who told us that he had been searching for this film for approximately ten years. During that time, he even contacted Toyah Willcox herself, but unfortunately she was unable to help him locate a copy.

We also contacted the BFI National Archive directly to ask whether they held the film. Unfortunately, they confirmed that they did not have a copy in their collection. This has made the search considerably more difficult, although it does not rule out the possibility that a print or recording survives elsewhere.

According to archived reviews and viewer accounts, the film received a limited theatrical release and was subsequently broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK. It apparently never received a conventional VHS or DVD release, which may help explain why it has become so obscure.

I'm hoping someone might know whether a complete version survives in a private collection, another film archive, a television archive, or among people who worked on the production. A recording of the original television broadcast would also be extremely valuable.

I'm not looking for reviews or opinions about the film's quality. I'm specifically interested in documented leads concerning a complete copy, surviving film prints, television recordings, or archival holdings.

Given that someone has already spent around a decade searching and that neither Toyah Willcox nor the BFI National Archive could provide a copy, any new lead would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to anyone who can help shed light on the whereabouts of this elusive film!

LOST [Fully lost] Hayley Westenra on Tour in Northern Ireland: DVD (2009/2010)

0 Upvotes

It's called On Tour in Northern Ireland. It is a DVD live album that's released by Decca Records and supported by UNICEF that features live performances of the Kiwi soprano Hayley Westenra that apparently takes place in Ireland. It was released by the records company in 2010, but the sales were withdrawn very shortly afterwards. It's NOWHERE to be found. Can anyone help me access the file/watch it? PS: I am unable to purchase stuff from eBay or Discos etc in case it becomes available. Preferably, it would be great to have it in an acceptable quality.

Anyone want to be a mod?

I'm running this subreddit by myself at this point so if anyone wants to be a mod, I'd appreciate the help. You don't have to do much other than the obvious. The one thing I need the most help with is dealing with the stuff that's better for r/tipofmytongue or r/helpmefind.

[found] Yaz - Beyond Birth Control (2008)

3 Upvotes

I saw a post that was looking for this commercial about Yaz made by Bayer in 2008. There's also supposed to be another one - Not Gonna Take It - for the Yasmin pill but not found so far?

Some health organisations found the commercial over the top and it resulted in liability for Bayer due to the positive effects being exaggerated while the risks seem to be downplayed in those commercials, as many women developed blood clots and strokes.

Initially, there was confusion if drospirenone containing pills caused an increased risk of thrombosis. Later studies showed that Yaz and Yasmin carry a 1.5 to 3 fold higher risk of thrombosis compared to older pills that contain levonorgestrel. This commercial was used by personal injury lawyers to show that Bayer did not warn the plaintiffs.

OUT OF PRINT Long shot request: Does anyone have a recording of The Terminator episode from “Movies at Our House”?

7 Upvotes

I was one of the guests that day (2 Arnold fans and a Futurist) it was a blast recording it but we never got copies of the show so I never saw it again after it aired on television back in either 2003 or 2004.

It was that weird time when everyone had converted to DVD but DVR wasn’t really around yet so I wasn’t able to record it myself for posterity.

I know it’s a long shot but if anyone could help me out that’d be amazing!

[Talk] [TOMT] [Short Film] [2000s] Looking for a short film creator group called A Thrillermakers film

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hello, I am trying to find any working links, archives, or contact information for an indie filmmaker group that used to post on YouTube around the 2010s. The group was called "Thrillermakers".

They specialized in making dramatic and suspenseful short films featuring young Western actors. The mood and tone of their videos were very intense and highly focused on psychological drama and survival situations. One specific scene I remember vividly involves a boy being threatened or restrained with a necktie during a confrontation.

I know some of their full videos, like episodes named "Saturday" or "Do Not Disturb" (from their RAW series), were discussed on old forums before, but their official YouTube channel was deleted long ago.

Does anyone here remember this creator group, or know where I can find any archived copies of their work? Any leads on the creators or where their videos are stored now would be amazing. Thank you!

My YT PD Film Channel 201 Verified Films

4 Upvotes

I have been working on this since February. I spent at least 600 hours on this. My initial channel had success but I didn’t understand enough and fell behind all the time. This Channel has around 220 films. All verified PD. I went through all the Poverty row production houses. Went through all the movies I could from the Golden Age of TV from the 1950s from Kraft to Buick they all sponsored movies. I gone through so many films. I like mystery , gothic , dark house , adventure , westerns. I trim to film. Just the movie but put the full credits are in the description. I put in films that I like, I admit I very fussy. Some films that are PD I don’t have because I don’t like them. Your free rip all my films they are all PD verified . I never allowed ads on my channel. Any film that allows me to play but will take revenue or anything I will either remove the music failing that I wont have it up. The Notices section of every film is blank. I wont be beholden to anyone.

This is a passion project I have no desire to make a penny on anything.

LOST I think Cinco has a one lost scene like Shake Rattle & Roll's Pridyder

0 Upvotes

I watched ALLTV2 and the movie was Cinco. The episodes were Braso, Paa, Mata, Mukha and Puso. The last episode is Puso, which have a lost scene. The ending in ALLTV2 was Emily's eyes were gone but hands were still moving though the man were dead. The ending I remember (true ending) was Emily was sleeping with a cutter hand moving through it's tummy. I don't know if ALLTV2 cutted the ending or the movie cutted the ending. If you found the ending, please send me a video.

I’m hoping Reddit can help me find some very important family footage. Please share if you can. ❤️

23 Upvotes

I’m trying to locate footage from a BBC Panorama programme called “The Killer Inside”, which was broadcast on 30 January 1989.
Programme details:
Programme: Panorama: The Killer Inside
Transmission date: 30 January 1989
Programme number: ANCP905D/71
Reporter: Robin Denselow
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
Broadcaster: BBC Panorama
The reason I’m looking for this is very personal.
The programme covered the death of my grandmother, who died in 1989 at the age of 26. My mum was only six years old when her mum died, so she has very few memories of her.
I have reason to believe that Panorama filmed around the time of her funeral, including footage at Seafield Crematorium in Edinburgh, and I’m trying to find out whether there is any surviving footage of my grandmother, her funeral, or our family from that time.
I’m particularly interested in the original filming/rushes as well as the finished programme, because there may have been footage recorded that never made it into the broadcast.
I’ve already been speaking to people connected with the BBC and the documentary. I’ve been told that a copy of the programme exists and that I can request a copy through the BBC. I’ve also been told that there may possibly be a copy held by the BFI in London.
I’m now trying to find anyone who might have a connection to the programme or remember the filming.
If you:
worked on Panorama: The Killer Inside;
worked for BBC Panorama around 1988/1989;
knew reporter Robin Denselow or anyone involved in the production;
worked in the BBC archives;
worked at Seafield Crematorium or was involved with the funeral;
remember the filming in Edinburgh;
know where the original production footage/rushes from this programme were archived;
have family members who worked on the programme;
or have any information that could point me towards someone who might know where this footage is now,
please get in touch or comment below.
Even a small piece of information could potentially help us find it.
I’m not looking for anything for commercial purposes. I’m simply trying to find something that could give my mum the chance to see her mum again, more than 37 years after she died.
If you can share this post, especially with people connected to BBC, Panorama, journalism, television archives, Edinburgh or the BFI, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read this or share it. ❤️
