The great atari collapse 😝
3
u/3spanishwords 11h ago
I was just a kid but I do remember Atari had lost the first great console war
2
u/Steiney1 9h ago
they didn't lose any console war! Atari was practically unchallenged from 1976 to 1985. Atari was bought by Warner Communications and lacked any long-term strategy, then they lost talent when they refused to pay royalties earned to the artists, then they rushed a literal shit-ton of unplayable ports of proper arcade games to market. They fucked up the port of Pac-Man for fucks sake! then, no one bought the 5200, 7800, Lynx, and eventually the Jaguar, although their Personal Computer models of 400, and 800 (XL) sold very well, by 1983 a flood of unlicensed games saturated the market and sank them financially. Atari did all of this to themselves. the NES nailed the coffin shut in 1985, when it was just a better system and Nintendo controlled the licensing like a hawk, thinking about their own long-term the way Atari never did.

They didn't come of age during them no

Bro what the fuck are you on about? Millennials came of age during January 6th? Are you stupid?
1
u/3spanishwords 11h ago
It's light hearted roast of Gen x for when they say something mean about millennials. It's clearly not meant to be taken serious.
I thought "great Atari collapse of 1983" was pretty funny.
It says "sardonic" above the gen x guy for a reason. It's a joke

I was born in the transition year, 1980, and got most of all of these during my childhood teen years
Very interesting year to be born as were the last not to have technology during out childhood but got internet and cell phones just as we turned teens
We will see the widest scope of no tech and see all the next gen tech

Millennials need constant pity for all the "horrrors" they have lived through.
4
u/ReallyUnlikable 15h ago
Gen X constantly has to feel tougher than they are because they literally fucking suck at everything they do.
3
u/WC_Flyer 12h ago
Which millennials correct for by doing nothing, ever. The most spoiled, entitled, whiniest, and least accomplished generation in human history.
1
u/Silentrein 10h ago
Or maybe we just heard all this bullshit from people like you for so long that we just said "you know what? Fuck it. Let it all burn."
2
u/WC_Flyer 10h ago
If you let it all burn, who’s going to deliver your soggy $60 DoorDash whopper? Please. The only thing you’re going to burn is your toast, because making it is too difficult for millennials 😂
1
u/Silentrein 10h ago
Keep on talking shit, it's literally the only thing your generation has ever done for anyone else. I'm just looking forward to your social security being cut off and forcing you to work until the day you die 😂
1
u/WC_Flyer 10h ago
Sorry to break it to you, I have two houses paid off, lifetime health insurance, and enough savings that I’ll never need a dime of SS. You mad?
Keep being bitter at people who actually have accomplished something. Weird concept to you, I see.

I got participation trophies in 1981, when the oldest of gen x were in their late teens, but do go on

Gen X had the first gulf war. in fact most of the lower ranks were all Gen X. just saying.
5
u/SmokedBeef 13h ago
The war that was entirely won by the Air Force and a battalion of tanks? The war where soldiers saw so little actual combat that Jake Gyllenhaal started in a movie that portrayed that fact and the frustration felt by soldiers sent to do nothing but follow behind armor and bombing campaigns, while admiring the destruction?
→ More replies (3)4
u/Lancasterbatio 13h ago
The one that was like a month of deployed US combat operations? Yeah, Kuwait had it hard during the First Gulf War, but it is hardly comparable to the scale of the GWOT for Americans.

u/16inchpianist 11h ago
Your Generation was handed affordable homes, cheap education, strong unions, and an economy built by people who believed in leaving something better for their children. Then they spent their entire adult lives dismantling those same advantages for everyone who came after them. They preached sacrifice while hoarding opportunity, called themselves the generation of peace and love while worshipping money, and confused being born at the right time with being morally and intellectually superior. They looked down on their parents over principles, and then betrayed those principles the moment keeping them would have cost them something. Worse yet, their sagest advice is "Buck up". You are dying, and you will not be missed.
Something like that, or no?
1
u/xAPPLExJACKx 10h ago
Still the silent and baby boomers in control by the time gen x hit the work force and they watch automation and outsourcing of jobs be the first workers to see their paychecks stagger saw multiple housing stagnation plus being first generation that had to deal with government pulling back college education
That's not bring up aids/HIV, highest crime rate, racial tension cold war and for the tankies the fall of the USSR
2
u/Any-Video4464 9h ago
Millenials really do have tons of excuses for being such losers. We should try to help them, not mock them.

u/16inchpianist 11h ago
I mean, we were raised by those monster narcissistic Boomers...so that wasn't great.
2
u/IWCry 11h ago
Ha! can't argue there. but millennials had to be raised by us. chain just gets worse n worse
2
u/16inchpianist 10h ago
Yeah, but we are pulling for them. Our parents were just jealous of any accomplishments. I might be projecting there. You're probably right.
0
u/Ill-Milk-6742 13h ago
What Hardships did Millenials face that we didnt as well?
1
u/IWCry 13h ago
we? well first of all I'm Gen X. second, stop being a victim. we had it so easy. recognize your privilege. you're just feeling guilty because you know we were handed an easy life.
I feel so bad for my kids even though I'm well off enough to help prop them
2
u/Ill-Milk-6742 12h ago
I wasnt trying to portray a victim in any sense. Im Gen X. Its not a trauma competition. I dont know about privledge, but they have things available that we didnt. All the thing they are eduring, we are as well was my point.

2
u/ActualPerson418 14h ago
Like Gen X didn't live through Waco, the Unibomber, many serial killer scandals, and countless other bad things. Everyone has it hard, life is hard. It's not a competition.
6
u/Odd_Post369 14h ago
People always underestimate the cultural fear of nuclear war too that hung over the populace and traumatized people. While we had tornado drills in school my mom had drills for what to during a nuclear blast. Pretty crazy.
2
u/rinconblue 12h ago
I remember watching The Day After in school like it was fucking educational documentary.
1
2
u/SomewhereLow4773 11h ago
Sorry but what was the effect of Waco or the Unibomber on your personal life?
Bc millennials graduated high school and quickly watched their classmates and friends come back from the ME in flag covered coffins.
1
u/Embarrassed-Topic513 12h ago
Everyone has it hard. Millenials just had it harder than Gen X in every way imaginable. You guys got to ride the coattails of the last generation to truly have the American experience.
Even the stuff you listed is peanuts compared to what my generation went through as young adults. 9/11 doesn’t have the impact on a 27 year old that it does on a 17 year old and if you can’t understand why idk what to tell ya.
2
u/Odd_Post369 11h ago
Constant war, threat of nukes, red scare, gas lines, being driven insane by lead, asbestos, and ddt, and so much more. We don't need to compete with generational trauma. We all lived through things we shouldn't have to because of shitty corporations and shitty politicians that are bought off by them.
2
u/Environmental_Beat84 10h ago
So Gen X didn't also live through Covid, 9/11, etc? WTF is this nonsense? Gen X is still alive, folks. They lived through all that Millennials lived through and way more.
1
u/SeaEmployee787 10h ago
yea, i am like all this overlaps, younger gen x and old millennial are the same thing. millennials can be 45 years old at this point. they are old now.
1
1
u/ActualPerson418 5h ago
I was 11 when 9/11 happened, I'm not a member of Gen X. I just think this whole "who had it worse" is dumb.

Oh yeah, cause Dad never coming home from Vietnam, living under the constant threat of nuclear annihilation, AIDS and the misinformation/lack of care/fear mongering around it were just walks in the park. Good thing as a Gen X I missed 9/11 and Covid and whatnot. WTF is this meme even saying? Both generations have a millimeter of time between them.
1
u/3spanishwords 7h ago
It's a joke. Seems like gen x has no problem posting memes all day about millennials being broke cause they bought iPhones and avacado toast ....guess gen x can give it but they like to take it. It's not even close to serious "great Atari collapse of 1983"
2
u/Kevin_Palpatine 6h ago
Being Gen X, I don't see the whole iPhone and avocado toast thing. That's Boomer bootstrap bullshit. We're just a blip in time from each other. I just don't like the "us vs. them" mentality between the generations (except the Boomers...fuck them).
1
u/3spanishwords 5h ago
Plus we should be more worried about the gen z generation we ve completely screwed. They are gonna be our care givers and they have some legitimate grievances. 🤣
2

Gen Z are straight up Nihilists. We have to give them a reason to live. All they know is turmoil and chaos. Trump is like half their lives.
1

Trump climate change denial is gonna play totally different in 20 years when gen z is in charge.....
2
u/Kevin_Palpatine 5h ago
I might not be alive to see this, but I guarantee as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow that there will be a retro-MAGA movement led by someone who was born in probably 2018 who finds democracy too boring. "I miss the everyday thrill of Trump like when I was 7 years old and had no skin in the game".
