Work In Progress First timer
This is my first block print, I’ve made a couple small stamps but nothing like this. I took the picture with my phone then made it into a stencil then traced it and transferred it to my block then went over it in pen. Now starting to carve it .
Is there an easier way to do it? And what are your thoughts on this so far ?

I’m new to linocut, and I’m not great at drawing. What I’ve seen suggested here, and what I do is take my image into a drawing app (I use free ibis paint), cover the image in a half% > opacity color, and erase the areas where I would carve. I then transfer that image onto the block. Probably pretty time consuming, but it works for me. It allows me to see more clearly where I need to carve than transferring an image would.

You can use printer paper and acetone to transfer ! I may have misunderstood exactly which part you were wanting advice on lol

I highly recommend using transfer paper to transfer your design. You can print out your reference or drawing, put it on top of the block (use tape to keep things aligned), then put the transfer paper between the reference and block. You then just trace over the reference with a pen or pencil and it will transfer from the transfer paper onto the block below. It works better on gray linoleum than the pink stuff in my experience.

Tracing paper also works if you already have it. Trace it on one side, turn it over, and draw on the lines you made before with graphite. When you rub or draw over the original lines again, the graphite comes off on whatever’s under it.
