Any success updating zenfone 8?

First of all, kudo to devs.

I have zenfone Max M1 Pro. While I tried to update to 24 from 21 (or whatever previous version was), followed update instruction, and it failed to boot. It went to recovery, stated "set_policy_failed:/data/bootchat".
After factory data reset, all went well. This got me hesitate to update my main phone, which is zenfone 8 with 23.2.

I've setup more than 4 profiles on my zenfone 8, more than default. I don't have a good idea how to backup/restore all profiles, and I've using it since March 2023, upgraded along the way. It feels like a hassle.

Update: Updating to 24 went well.

Question Which firmware before LineageOS installation?

Redmi Note 9 Pro, M2003J6B2G, but firmware is EU version.
Guide says: "Warning: Make sure to download exact firmware for your model."

but also:

"Download the required firmware for your model. Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global) - V14.0.3.0.SJZMIXM"

Does that mean I need to flash ...MIXM or (I believe this is correct?) ...EUXM?

Would the files from

https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/joyeuse/

be ok? I can't find the EU version by simply modifying the link supplied by the LineageOS guide.

Or am I just better off using Mi Flash and flashing a complete Global ROM and be done with it?

Thanks in advance.

LOS 24 on POCO M5s

I had been experimenting with an unofficial LUNARIS ROM based on Android 16. It was alright and supported face unlock. However, I wanted to test LOS 24 on my POCO M5s (rosemary). Works fine.

I reverted to the recommended stock ROM from LUNARIS using the Xiaomi MiFlash Tool and then installed LOS 24 and Gapps as per the instructions with no issues.

Fun Lineage OS 24 Android 17

Honestly, this major update from A16 to A17 brings quite a lot of changes, and I’m really liking it! Two stand-out features for me are system-wide app bubbles and the new option in LineageOS’s default launcher, Trebuchet—specifically the dock search, which is something I’ve been wishing for for a long time.

Thanks to this, there’s no need to install a third-party custom launcher anymore. Huge props to the LineageOS developers and maintainers for adding this feature while still giving us the option to disable it. I’m super grateful to the whole LineageOS team for all their hard work in keeping my device alive!

By the way, I’m running this on my Redmi Note 8.

Question How is S-Pen pressure in CSP running on LOS?

Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing well.

I recently bought a Galaxy Tab S7, and I have been enjoying using it for digital art, specifically in CSP. I'm someone who enjoys tinkering with hardware/software, and I saw that LineageOS supports the S7. I was considering installing Lineage to give it a go, but I'm worried that doing so would remove support for pen pressure.

I've only found mixed results so far online, so I was curious if anyone here is daily driving a setup like this?

Thanks!

Help Cant install LineageOS on my Galaxy Tab A7 (SM-T500)

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 (SM-T500)
Android version 12

  1. I follow the Lineage OS manual to flash the software on the device. Everything works fine until I flash the vbmeta.img file. I tried older vbmeta.img files but it didnt change the fact that after I flashed the file, booted up the device, selected the language and country, let it restart, this happens:

A. Security screen loads whilst saying "an unofficial file (vbmeta) has been installed on this device, to solve the problem you need to go to a professional store and let the device get reset, you may have to pay extra money" -it didnt actually say that word for word but that was the message

B. KG Status: Prenormal

At that point I could do nothing but reinstall the official samsung firmware which worked but I couldnt get pass the security notification and proceed with the installment of Lineage OS

I wanna have Lineage OS so bad on my tablet could someone please help me

Question How is lineageOS for someone who is degoogling and someone who enjoys Linux level customizing

So in the nearish future (a year or so) I am going to be ditching my iPhone and swapping to something FOSS and more privacy focused. And seeing how lineageOS at its core is just a truly free version of android it’s peaked my interest.

I’ve been reading into different alternatives for me and currently grapheneOS seems to be the best option for what I want and /e/OS is a close second. But grapheneOS and /e/OS (to a lesser extent) has one major downside: hardware availability. It’s currently locked to only the pixel (for decent enough reasons but still) and /e/OS to a lesser extent. I don’t want to feel like that is my only option when looking at potential replacement for my phone.

That’s when I stumbled into lineage. And seemingly this android distro can do what I want it to do which is remove google services and use FOSS alternatives primarily while not limiting me to only a few devices. Now I’m not a total privacy, security nut who NEEDS grapheneOS BUT I do like to have control over what data is sent out and where “hints why grapheneOS sandboxing features resonate with me”. So with lineageOS can i achieve “data sovereignty” to the extent of a degoogled average Linux user?

Also I see a little blurb on the website about individuality. How far could I push it? Currently I’m running omarchy (already heavily riced) with some custom apps i built and custom themes I’ve made as well as customizing how my windows appear and move using hyprland on my laptop. So how far could i push customization within lineage? Is it similar level to something like arch Linux where I can open up my machine and make it do whatever I tell it to do “breaking it or not in the process” or is it a bit more restrictive to that of like Apple where you can change the look a lot but nothing major behavior wise under the hood?

Just fishing for info, experience with lineage, and resources that may help me in making a decision.

Problem installed LineageOS on Xiaomi POCO F3

I'm having some trouble getting lineage os on my poco f3, stuck at trying to flash the firmware.

I have adb on my windows 11 pc and it seems to be working fine but im having a problem with fastboot probably due to the usb drivers. when i tried to installed the google usb drivers windows 11 told me that there was already a better version installed. then i tried to installed the Xiaomi usb drivers and i think it said the same thing.

when i have the phone connected to my pc by usb cable and i select "file transfer mode" on the phone i can see the phone in device manager as 'poco f3'. Running the 'adb devices' command also shows the phone. when rebooting the phone into fastboot i can see fastboot on the screen of the phone and if you look at my screenshot thats what it looks like in device manager. running 'fastboot devices' shows nothing connected and windows wont let me install the usb drivers from either google or Xiaomi. the screenshot shows the error msg for trying to install the Xiaomi drivers though i think the .rar file downloaded fine from the Xiaomi website. i also tried a download of the Xiaomi usb drivers from another site and its the same issue.

edit: cant attach screenshot, but it basically says, "the hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. the file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering"

any ideas?

Thank you to developers Fazwalrus & Deivid21 and the entire LineageOS team. The WebUSB Flash Tools made the upgrade even simpler. Great work keeping the older hardware alive and current.

Help OnePlus Nord N200 - Bluetooth - no audible audio after LOS 23 > 24 upgrade

After the recent upgrade of the N200 device from LOS 23 to LOS 24, although Bluetooth can still connect to its previously paired devices, no audio comes through any of the three devices I have while connected via Bluetooth. Context: In the three/four years leading up to this week's upgrade while on LOS, no issues whatsoever with Bluetooth.

Running the official LOS build, no root, no Magisk. Just plain LOS.

What I have tried to attempt to resolve the issue, but did not:

  • Turned off / powered back on N200 and Bluetooth devices a few times
  • Removed and re-added Bluetooth devices
  • Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (the single toggle)

Audio still comes through via the 3.5 mm phone jack and the built-in speakers as normal.

Anyone else experiencing this issue on the N200? Wanted to ask before I submit an issue ticket to GitLab.

This is not a bug report.

Thanks!

LOS 24.0 build for Fairphone 5 warnings about compiler API level

I have just completed a build of LOS 24.0 for my Fairphone 5 under Ubuntu 24.04.5 following the build guide on the LOS wiki. The build was successful but it generated warnings about the compiler only supporting API level 36 and Android 17 needing API level 37. My build system is up to date and I performed a repo sync to a fresh directory.

Can anyone say if it's safe to use the build on my phone? I don't want to brick it.

Zenfone 8 (sake) LineageOS 24 - MindtheGapps Playstore doesn't seem to work

Anyone else out there still using this phone and has similar issue? I've updated from 23.2, followed the procedure (rebooted back to recovery, sideloaded new Gapps for 17/ARM64 from October 6th) other google things seem to work, but play store just closes right away.
Any idea where to bring this up and perhaps share logs and stuff?

Help Forgot GMS after update to 17

This morning I did the update to Android 17 on my Fairphone 4 and forgot to flash the GMS after it. Launched into the OS and obviously none of the Google's stuff works.. Whic is the best recover route? Do I reflash the same image to then flash GMS? Is it better if I wait the next LOS update to flash GMS after it?

UPDATE: I reflashed the same image, the GMS zip and after a boot to check the magisk patched boot. All is working fine!

Help Audio will play on : analog / this phone

Hi guys

I'm running LOS 23.2 on pdx234 (Sony Xperia 1V) and it's great there's just this thing that annoys me quite often: the audio doesn't switch back to "this phone" after disconnecting the headphone jack

Does anyone have the same issue ? Is there a fix ?

Thanks a lot

Pixel 9a Upgrade to LOS24 with web flash tool

Hello,

i am curious: did any of you did the upgrade from 23.2 to 24 via the web based flash tool?

It is looking really good and i am very tempted to upgrade directly in chrome without messing with the command line, but on the other hand i don't want to loose all my data.

So if you guys did it, please post some feedback!

Xperia 1 III: LineageOS 23.2 recovery fails to boot; both slots marked unbootable

hi guys,
im very much a n00b to reddit and tech in general. I'm trying to install LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) on my Sony Xperia 1 III (XQ-BC72, pdx215) android 13 using the installation guide. im using my laptop running Linux(Mint)

I flashed dtbo, vbmeta, Venda_Boot and boot.img files. Fastboot reported success, writing boot.img to boot b.

When I try to enter recovery with Volume Down + Power, the LineageOS RECOVERY + logo appears, but the phone restarts before the recovery menu loads. I then get "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot".

The phone still enters Fastboot, and the bootloader is unlocked.

what do? or do i now have a paper weight?
