I had to have one, I finally bought one.

I saw one of these Winchester 1873 Deluxe Sporters earlier this year and told myself if I was still thinking about it later in the year that I would buy one. Am I glad I did.

The fit, the finish, the action, just the overall quality of this rifle. I think the only guns I've ever owned that come close were my MR73 and (ironically) my externally clapped out 1961 4" Colt Python. Why would a clapped out Python be on that list? Because that action was p e r f e c t. And you could tell based on how much finish was still great that the it was absolutely top tier. Like this one.

Miroku makes a super nice gun, loading it was such a joy, no fuss at all. Shooting it was great too, wherever I pointed, it went.

My .44 mag straight wall setup

Slug gun had broken scope rings last year, instead of buying new optics and spending money on $$$ slug rounds, I felt it was more economical/justified to buy a straight wall rifle since they were legalized…here’s my S&W 1854 .44 mag, also…I’m lefty which I why I like lever guns and my stock wrap is backwards 😂

I bought a new ruger made marlin 336 SBL and appear to have a misprint on the barrel

I contacted Marlin support and they've offered to replace the barrel with a correctly stamped one, how rare is this and has anyone else gotten something like this. It chambers and ejects 30-30s properly

Quiver and accessory options

Post image
7 Upvotes

Here's the build so far:

Strikefire II with the low mount (cantilever was too tall, but if it had a machined notch on the base, the sights would work with it) 0.83" Vortex ring. I'm thinking I may use my Gen 1 3x Strikefire prism on it instead, after I get the screws to take the spacer out so it sits low as well.

I wrapped the lever. Turned out nice, but I think I'd like to figure out a way to take up some space inside the loop. My hand tends to fly around in the loop, and it doesn't translate into efficient for me. Any ideas?

Lastly, I want to get some ammo Quivers maybe a six spot for the stock and another six spot for the handguard. Other than RPP, are there any that look good? I did find some that I like that look really good, but they're $50 and it only holds three. I'm not trying to spend $200 for ammo quivers. I did attempt to put some 357 magnums in the stock, but the holders are not appropriate because the bullet just Falls straight into it. . You have to turn the rifle upside down and beat the shit out of stock to get it to fall back out. Any ideas for that part?

Marlin Dark Series Furniture Swap

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi all,

I am the new owner of a 1894 Marlin .357 Dark Series (New Model). I want to install grey laminate or wood OEM Marlin furniture to try out on the rifle to switch things up a bit. Has anyone done this and is able to post photos?

Also, I'm wondering if this will require any special fitment as I would be switching to a cap style handguard. I don't see the OEM handguard caps available for sale anywhere?

Thanks!

First .357 lever gun: Marlin 1894 SBL, S&W 1854, or Henry?

I’m looking to buy my first .357 lever gun and would appreciate opinions from people who own or have shot these rifles. I’ve never owned or shot a .357 lever gun before.

My short list is:

• Marlin 1894 SBL
• S&W 1854 Stealth Hunter
• Henry Big Boy X H012MX
• Henry SPD HUSH H012MH

I’ve been leaning toward the Marlin 1894 SBL. It’s one of the only options I’ve found with 1/2x28 threads, which match the mount on my CAT MOB. I also plan to buy another suppressor for the lever gun eventually, and that can be the topic of another discussion.

I’m not opposed to switching my MOB over to Plan B and putting Plan B muzzle devices on the lever gun and my 9mm PCCs. That would give me a more flexible setup, but buying muzzle devices for all those hosts could add up quickly.

For those with experience, which would you choose? How do they compare for action smoothness, reliability, fit and finish, and overall value? Is there anything you wish you’d known before buying your first .357 lever gun?

Takedown screw

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I got myself a mad pig takedown screw for my Marlin 1895, but I find that it backs itself out very easily, after a handful of action cycles, which i believe to be even worse than the factory screw… yes i could add loctite but to me that defeats the purpose of an easy field teardown, being the point of the takedown screw. Anyone else experience this? What was your solution? Thanks

Can I hear some story’s from people that have actually taken deer with .35 Remington

How did it do and how far did the deer travel after the shot ? Debating on taking my 336 with LEUPOLD 1-4 power with me into the woods opening day and leaving my .300 mag at home, I’m sighted in with lever evolution ammo

1895 dark series in 45-70. Burris RT-6 in Warne low rings (had both lying around) Magpul sling and hand stop, eBay shell carrier, sniper hog lights LRX30 with red module. Lastly a hybrid 46DT. My 7th can but my first on a 4473.

Pretty impressive little rifle, and surprisingly my 85 yard zero with hornady 325gr FTX’s is almost perfect for a 50 yard zero with 410gr SUBX’s.

Makes an exceptional hog/ deer rifle in the Arkansas ozarks.

Extractor Broken?

Thumbnail gallery

I think my extractor is broken on my S&W 1854. Does anyone have one that they can pull to compare? S&W wants me to send the entire gun in for this part. Have about 300 rounds through the gun and about 30 rounds ago it started to have extraction issues. Now it wont eject any shells or dummy rounds.

158 gr vs 180 gr buffalo bore in 357 for Whitetail

Looking at ammo options for my Henry Big Boy X. Curious if Buffalo Bore 180 is worth the price tag or if something like Federal 158 gr jsp is sufficient for PA Whitetail.

I am open to other suggestions as well

Pair of 1971 Marlin's (Redux)

I picked up both of these guns a number of years ago in pretty poor condition. One is a 336 30-30 and the other is an 1894 .44 rem mag. I would truly like to restore them. What are my best options?

I deleted my stupid post of modern furniture on them because of the wood is genuinely in fantastic condition. The damaged bluing and pitting is the issue I have with them. More pictures added.

I was able to save the .444 Marlin that I also acquired at the same time as these rifles. I went on to harvest a Black Bear with it (picture of .444 added)

I finally did it !!

hi everyone!! 🤍 i posted on this subreddit 162 days ago when i was trying to find my boyfriend his dream rifle for his birthday, and i wanted to come back with an update!!
after MONTHS of searching for a marlin sbl 1895 and calling pretty much everywhere i could think of, i finally found him one of his dream guns!! 😭🤍 i ended up getting him a marlin trapper 1895 in .45-70, which was the closest thing i could find to the sbl after all that searching. i know they’re not exactly the same, but the trapper has a barrel that’s only 3 inches shorter, and i was so excited to finally find one for him!
today was his birthday, and i’m just so happy i was able to get him something he’s wanted so badly. he loves hunting and everything outdoors, so i really wanted to get him something he could actually enjoy and use rather than just something that looked nice. it took a lot of searching, but it was so worth it to finally find one!!
thank you to everyone who gave me advice on my original post!! i figured i owed you all an update since you helped me out 🥹🤍

Curious of what folks recommend or run on their setup.

Value / History check on a vintage Walker's Saddlery (Sundre, AB) leather scabbard?

Thumbnail gallery
16 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm up in Manitoba and looking for some community opinions/history on this vintage leather rifle scabbard before I list it locally. It is handcrafted by Walker's Saddlery out of Sundre, Alberta.

The leather is thick and pliable, the maker's stamp is very crisp, and crucially, both of the original mounting straps and buckles are 100% intact and functional.

I’ve been told it should easily fetch $250+ CAD plus shipping to the right buyer given the maker's name and condition. Does that sound accurate for the current Canadian market? Any background info on the maker would also be awesome.

(Note: This is strictly an information and value check post. This item is NOT for sale on Reddit.)
