Hi everyone!

This is our first post here, so a quick introduction; Lenovo Legion Toolkit (LLT) is a community-developed utility for Lenovo laptops that provides more control over features such as performance modes, GPU behaviour, battery management, thermals, display settings, automation, and other Lenovo-specific functionalities.

We're the team maintaining LLT, and we were kindly given permission to share our releases with the Lenovo Legion community here. We already share releases through this subreddit’s Discord community and our own channels, but we wanted to share the latest release here with the wider Legion community as well.

Release Highlights

  • Dynamic Refresh Rate & ACM: Native Windows 11 DRR support, Auto Color Management (ACM) toggling, and improved HDR support.
  • GPU Voltage Capping & OC: Voltage capping via V/F curve flattening, voltage locking, P-State locking, and Keep dGPU Awake.
  • dGPU Sleep & Power Stability: Fixed sleep/wake loops affecting RTX 50-series GPUs and newer drivers, added GC6 diagnostics, and added Dynamic Boost support for non-Gaming RTX models.
  • AMD Curve Shaper & OC: Overhauled AMD overclocking with Curve Shaper, power/current limits, and multi-power-mode profile support.
  • Customizable Fn + Q Loop: Added an ITS Mode configuration window to reorder or disable Fn + Q modes, along with Geek and Creator mode support for non-Gaming models.
  • Boot Logo & Startup: Redesigned the Boot Logo tool with live preview, animated GIF support, and Startup Animation toggling.
  • Game Detection & Automation: Added Manual Game Detection, an Included Processes whitelist, Time Range triggers, and AI Engine steps.

News Your New Legion: The Essential Setup & Check Guide

Welcome! If you just bought a Legion laptop, follow this guide to set it up, update it, and check that everything works properly.

Keep the box, charger, paperwork, and packaging until the return period has ended.

Some links require access to our community Legion Series Discord.

If you plan on using Linux-based Operating Systems on your Legion hardware the community has created a comprehensive How to guide. We also have a dedicated #linux channel on our discord where you can talk with other linux nerds.

1. Complete Windows Setup — Must

Plug in the charger and complete the normal Windows setup.

You do not need to fully charge or drain the battery before continuing. Just use the laptop normally while it charges.

2. Run Windows Update — Must

Go to: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

Install everything required, restart, and check again until no important updates remain.

Keep the laptop connected to power during updates.

3. Update Microsoft Store Apps — Must

Open: Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates

Install all available updates.

4. Set Up Lenovo Software — Must

Use one of the following:

  • Lenovo Vantage
  • Legion Space on supported newer models
  • Lenovo Legion Toolkit as an unofficial alternative

Avoid running multiple Legion control applications at the same time.

Lenovo Vantage

Optional features you can usually disable when unused:

  • Network Boost
  • Wi-Fi Security
  • Automatic Performance Scan
  • Rapid Charge
  • Overdrive

Legion Space

Open System Updates and install available model-specific updates.

For OLED models, enable the available burn-in protection options, such as:

  • Auto Shift Wallpapers
  • Dynamic Lock Screen
  • Auto Blur Toolbar
  • Default Dark Mode

Lenovo Legion Toolkit

Download it from the official Lenovo Legion Toolkit GitHub.

Beta versions may be available in #legion-toolkit.

Use LLT's settings to disable conflicting Lenovo applications and services when needed. - LLT > Settings, disable Vantage, ImController, and Hotkeys so LLT has full control.

5. Install the GPU Driver — Must

After Windows and Lenovo updates are finished, install the latest suitable driver for your GPU.

  • NVIDIA: Use the NVIDIA App or download the driver directly from NVIDIA.
  • AMD: Use Lenovo's driver or AMD Software when a newer driver is needed.
  • Intel: Windows Update or Lenovo's driver is normally enough.

Restart after installing the driver.

Do not use driver-updater programs or tools such as DDU unless you are troubleshooting a specific problem.

6. Back Up Your BitLocker Key — Must

Windows may enable Device Encryption or BitLocker automatically.

Check: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption

Save your recovery key before changing BIOS, Secure Boot, TPM, storage, or firmware settings.

Microsoft guide: Find your BitLocker recovery key

Recovery keys: Microsoft Account

7. Inspect the Laptop — Must

Check the laptop during the retailer's return period.

Test:

  • Screen and dead pixels
  • Keyboard and touchpad
  • Hinges and chassis
  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • USB, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, and other ports
  • Charging
  • Sleep, restart, and shutdown

Open Device Manager and check for unknown devices or yellow warning icons.

Document serious problems with photos or video, and ask for guidance on our discord server.

8. Test Performance — Recommended

Download the 3DMark Demo on Steam and run Time Spy, not Time Spy Extreme.

Before testing:

  • Connect the charger.
  • Finish all updates.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Select Performance Mode.
  • Close unnecessary programs.

Post the result in the Benchmarks Channel with your laptop model, CPU, GPU, RAM, performance mode, and scores.

You should also test a demanding game or program for a while and watch for crashes, artifacts, shutdowns, or major performance drops.

More testing advice: How to Check a New Laptop for Issues

9. Check Secure Boot — Recommended

Press Win + R, enter msinfo32, and check Secure Boot State.

If it says On, leave it alone.

If it says Off, back up your BitLocker key before changing anything. Ask for help on our discord if you are unsure about the BIOS settings.

Do not clear the TPM, change boot mode, or restore keys randomly.

10. Cleanup and Settings

Remove McAfee — Must

If McAfee came preinstalled, remove it.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → McAfee → Uninstall

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender will automatically take over afterward.

Restart the laptop after uninstalling it.

Other Optional Settings

You may also:

  • Remove other unwanted preinstalled applications.
  • Disable unnecessary startup applications.
  • Enable Conservation Mode when mostly using the laptop plugged in.
  • Use Balanced Mode for normal use or when also gaming.
  • Use Performance Mode for intensive loads while connected to power.

Community optimization guides:

Avoid random debloat scripts or "one-click optimization" tools.

Battery Note

A new battery does not need to be fully drained.

Only perform a battery calibration if the percentage is clearly inaccurate, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, or feels finicky.

Need Help?

Post in #Questions and include:

  • Exact laptop model
  • CPU and GPU
  • Windows version
  • Error message or screenshot
  • What you already tried

Really do not be scared to ask questions, we've got more then 30k members on our discord and are hoping you will be part of it too.

Once everything is updated, tested, and working, stop changing settings and enjoy your Legion and don't worry!

Managed to snag a Lenovo Legion 5 (i9-14900HX, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM) for $700! How did I do?

Upgraded from an Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 with the Ryzen 9 4900HS and 2060 max-q card plus 16gb ram. Sold that for $375 after buying this so technically only spent $325. Got it used but it’s in great condition. How did I do? How big of an upgrade is this?

Support Help with Poor Internet Connection!

Hello!

I have a Lenovo Legion 7 that I’ve had since January of this year. Since yesterday at least, the internet speed has diminished from ~450mb/s to ~8mb/s and I cannot fix it.

I’ve tried reconnecting my internet connection, resetting my laptop, updating my laptop, checked my drivers (said everything was working well), changed to 5ghz in device manager (improved my download speed in the past when steam was capped at 25mb/s), and restarted my modem. All my other devices are getting ~500mb/s or more. I tried moving my laptop closer to the modem which in the past brought the speed up to 700mb/s but it was still capped at 8mb/s.

The only thing I haven’t done was deleting my realtek driver, but I’m a bit scared as I don’t have a usb to transfer a new driver from another device. (Also just paranoid I’ll mess it up lol).

I’d greatly appreciate any help with this as I’m not sure what is wrong or how to go about fixing it.

Thanks!!

Support Turned on AC adapter notifs on LLT, and then...

• Upvotes

I turned on AC Adapter notifications on Lenovo Legion Toolkit, and every so often, it says "AC Adapter disconnected", then immediately right after, "AC Adapter connected".

I'm on conservation mode, and I keep the laptop plugged in 99% of the time.

Also, the battery icon on windows usually says "Fully smart charged" with a heart on it, with the battery at 97%-100%.

Is this a normal charge level for conservation mode, and is it normal for the system to be detecting "AC adapter disconnected" once in a while during active use?

Laptop is a Legion 5 Gen 10.

I was under the impression that conservation mode would leave the battery at 80% or something.

Advice Infamous soldering problem or the thermal paste?

Post image
• Upvotes

Lenovo legion 5 won’t boot. Initially, I thought window updates broke my drivers, and it’s probably true still.
The laptop turns on but remains at a black screen right away. The Fn space combo is responsive, the keyboard does light up.

I managed to turn it on after multiple power drains but I don’t want to exasperate the problem. Could it be the infamous soldering problem I just heard about or is it the pitiful state of the thermal paste?

Is there any hope of it being fixed with a proper thermal paste reapplication?

Support Second Lenovo Legion brick?

hi okay it's going to be a long story I'm going to use text to speech so sorry if anything sounds off so after my first legion 5i rtx 5060 got bricked I'm not even sure why like I just came home from school and it was charging and it just died and I even got denied warranty and I didn't even get a refund.

and then I so stupidly decided to get the upgrade; the Lenovo legion pro 5i with RTX 5070 TI and now it's actually brick too but this time it's kind of different because I did a Windows update for Lenovo drivers like Lenovo bios I don't know what it was but it was just an update so I just did it without thinking about it and then a few days later after that like three days it like did a black screen and then it booted up again and I thought it was weird but I wasn't worried because well it booted up right, and then a few days later like 3 days after that, now in the present my laptop, did another black screen but this time it didn't turn on and now it's just gone forever so I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this or similar and if they had any advice and if they fixed it themselves because I do not want to send it to warranty like I think I won't even get it back or they'll pull something out of the bum to not fix it like before but realistically I probably have to.

andd

uhmm I also did the 60 second reboot thing but that didn't work so I'm just leaving it on to drain, but it's getting toasty on the keyboard so I probably won't do that.

I'm just sad, well I don't even care much about the laptop but the stickers I put are so cool and rare this situation just sucks to be in maybe I'll just pry off the back cover and hang it up as memorabilia.

pls send help.

Support Lenovo Legion 7 shutting down after 30-40 seconds

Post image
3 Upvotes

I was transferring some files from my laptop to another PC using the LAN cable, i forgot to plug in the laptop to charge so the battery dies, i tried turning it on again after no signs of life at all. Tried all troubleshooting steps nothing. Opened up the laptop performed power cycling and such and it turns on but no post, just black screen for 20 seconds then shuts down again. Re-seated the ram stick and CMOS battery, it turns on and posts fine, but the fan's ramp up really quick then shuts down. Tried a couple times more, going into bios, letting windows repair itself, nothing. Fans ramp up and shuts down, in about 40 seconds.

What i gathered is it must be an issue with overheating or sensors errors? Don't know.

Any help is appreciated. If there is nothing more for me to try, i will contact Lenovo service center first thing in the morning and see how this pans out.

note: the laptop is not under warranty as it is outside country of sale.

Support High VRAM temps after Legion Pro 7i Gen8 cleanup

Post image
6 Upvotes

I have owned this device for 3 years and this was the first time it was cleaned. Liquid Metal is out of stock in the entire country. I was recommended to get the Liquid Metal replaced by the local technician as CPU surface was getting color changed.

They couldn't diagnose the reason for high VRAM temps. It happens within 5 to 8 minutes of playing games like 007 First Light. I was told Thermal Putty/Pads were not dry and just one of the pads was torn which the technician carefully repositioned.

This is the most expensive stuff I own. Please help.

I m getting these two laptops withthe given specs in pics

Which to get as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT aspiring to be a software engineer but also have 3D rendering as a hobby. I m heavily thinking of getting the gen 11 cuz it has better battery life processor and is slim for portability. But when i saw alot of reviews ppl told it has less better material than last gen and hinge wobble is prevalent. I dont want my laptop to be a victim as same as victus series of hp 🫪. Both of these il get a discount of ₹15,000 after purchase. Whereas in pro variant of gen 10, its better cooling but heavier and thicker but its hinge barely wobbles as comparison to gen 11.

Pls guide me 😭😭

Ps: in this era of overpricing i m getting this cuz its my dream laptop and i dont care whatever i m getting at price BUT WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME DISCOUNT TIPS ON THESE IF POSSIBLE

Support The X button on my legion 7 keyboard shat the bed

Among the plethora of problems I've had with my Legion 7 16IRX9 for two years now, the X button decided it's had enough and won't work again, after having... zero physical damage. I have to whip out the On-Screen keyboard if I have to type anything with X. Do I have to replace the entire keyboard for one button or do I finally trash the damn thing for my own sanity or what?

Support Is this sound a sign that my fans are failing?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TLDR: is this an early sign of failing fans? has anyone else had this?

So I over worry about my devices and I’ve had my Legion 5 15ACH6H now for almost 5 years. Earlier this year I’ve started to notice my fans sounding like a bit of a fizzing sound / lightly scraping? It’s aggressively annoying or noticeable and cannot hear it with headphones on, but it is something I notice when sat near the laptop with nothing else on.

I’ve cleaned the fans, changed the thermal paste and cleared the heatsink fully but it’s still making the sound. The fans don’t speed up too much, around 2200rpm most of the time with anything open in the background or always under 4000rpm. The temps are always under 85c in my games so no temperature issues.

I’m just wondering if anyone has had this kind of sound before and is it a sign that my fan bearings are giving up? Any advice?

Support Legion 27Q-10 flickering

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a Lenovo Legion 27Q-10 and connected it to my Lenovo LOQ (i5-12450HX, RTX 4050).

At 1440p 60Hz, it seems everything works fine, but at 144Hz, the screen flickers and disconnects/reconnects. like above but sometime ie at day 1 its fine at 144hz 1440p

Sometimes, fully inserting the HDMI cable makes both screens go black. I'm using a cheap 179 INR 3m Zebronics HDMI cable rated at big 18Gbps. (maybe cable fault) I've also updated my NVIDIA driver also. In Loq, I face flickering issues many times nt big thing

Could this be a cable issue, HDMI port problem, or monitor defect? Has anyone faced something similar? sould i buy dp cabel to c adpater

Advice Lenovo Logo Normal or Defect?

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I recently bought a Lenovo Legion 7 , and I noticed something a little odd.The area around the Lenovo logo on the back of the screen feels slightly raised and uneven. It’s not really noticeable visually, but I can feel it when I run my fingers over it.I have another Lenovo , and the area around the logo on that one is completely flat.

For those who own a Legion 7, is this normal, or could it be a manufacturing defect? I’m trying to figure out if I should return it or ask for an exchange while I still can.

Would appreciate hearing your experiences.

Advice Legion 5 15AHP 10, should I get the warrenty?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My warranty is about to end, i got the laptop last year from Lenovo Canada, and it is my first gaming laptop and my second Lenovo one, i see that a lot of people suggested the warranty for such expensive laptops but I'm still not sure if it is all available in Lenovo Canada to fix all issues that might occur, so far i had zero issues with it and all i did was open it and clean the fans without using a thermal paste as mine is thermal pad so i think I'm all fine?

if so should i get the premium warranty it is still expensive for even 1 year, sorry for the question but I never dealt with a gaming laptop before

Advice Thinking about affording a new Legion

I have an old Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05 that I owned since Sep 2020 and somehow this thing still survived until this day. It carried me through four years of bachelor's and one year of master's and it still survived for 6 years without a major issue (okay the only issues this thing had in the past are malfunctioned keyboards and broken wifi adapter but that was 3 years ago). The only "bottleneck" I see in this thing is its GTX 1650 which yeah it hinders some of the modern games I played. Anyway I'm considering an upgrade to a better Legion (either Legion 5 or Legion Pro 5 both gen 10) with RTX 5060 and I do have enough budget to buy one now but it would leave my balance drained a lot (and have to work for some more time to be able to afford one without seeing my bank balance lost more than half of it although my parents indeed be able to provide for me, they told me to be responsible with my money).

I kinda found a Lenovo Legion 5 15AKP10 RTX 5060 at around $1700 but with 16GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD while a Legion Pro 5 16ADR10 RTX 5060 at around $1850-ish equipped with initial 24GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD. Since I also saw everything is getting f-ing expensive thanks to AI boom, is it better to consider buying a new Legion 5 or Pro 5 asap or just keep saving and just keep using this old Legion 5? Even I didn't expect this thing lived up to 6 years for a gaming laptop and its durability and build quality is still pretty darn strong for something that weighs up to 2.5 kilograms.

Support Need help regarding claiming ADP 😭

So, here's what happened. I started a Valorant match, but right at the beginning, I started getting internet connection errors. I usually play using my phone's hotspot, and my phone was placed on the right corner of the table. I picked it up and reconnected the network.

As I was putting my phone back on the table, I was in a hurry and accidentally hit the edge of my phone against my laptop's display. Immediately after that, my laptop screen stopped displaying anything. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I'm guessing the display panel might have been damaged.

I have 4 years of ADP and legion ultimate support with onsite

This is my first so Idk how to claim or request for repair and all
