News πŸ“° October 2026 Photo Challenge | β€œAdventure” πŸŽ’

Post image

October is here, and as we've done several "spooky-ish" challenges already, I decided to not go the Halloween way this time.

So this month's theme is:

"Adventure"

Instructions:

  • Every entry should somehow invoke a feeling of Adventure
  • The primary subject of the photograph must be Lego (or bricks). Minifigures don't need to be the primary subject for this challenge
  • No maximum number of minifigures. Your scene can be as large or as small as you want
  • Editing is allowed, no AI though
  • You can post as many as 3 entries
  • If any of your older photographs fits the theme, you are free to post it (again) with the correct Post Flair

You have until Wednesday, October 21st to post your entries with the β€œPhoto Challenge Entry” post flair.

In the end, we will once again let you, the members of this sub, to choose the final winner through a poll that will be posted later in September.

The winner will get a unique user flair on r/legophotos and will be spotlighted on our Instagram.

I would also like to thank u/Greedy_Debt700 for providing the poster picture for this challenge!

Let's have an adventure together now!

Concept & Inspiration:
Created for the "Adventure" photo challenge! I wanted to capture a tense snowy mountain adventure: a skier enjoying a peaceful run on the slopes, totally unaware of the giant bear shadow lurking right behind the pine trees.

How It Was Created:
This entire scene was shot using shadow projections, with just some minor post-processing to adjust contrast and cool, icy tones.
* Lighting: A single small light source placed behind the setup to project the silhouettes onto the background.
* Setup: A mix of custom paper cutouts and physical LEGO elements used together to create the mountain, pine tree, and bear silhouettes, with the skier minifigure in the foreground.
* Gear: Handheld smartphone shot.

I've made Shingodzilla 4-5 times in 2 years. Might sound like a little but considering I've made hundreds of builds at this point without dupes. Thats a lot.

INCIDENT REPORT: SECTOR 7 RAIL HEAD

DATE: Classified

UNIT: Vance Mobile Unit

STATUS: Active Contact

Sky turned violet at 0200. Classic drift signβ€”tear in the veil is widening fast.

Patricia’s got the Stuart dug in along the line while Sam’s on the ground keeping eyes on the tracks. Whatever just stepped out of that tear isn’t standard WWII armor, and it sure as hell isn't human.

Colt and Winchester experimental gear locked and loaded. Holding the breach until backline arrives.

Custom M5 Stuart kitbash & lighting setup. Built, staged, and photographed on the track bed.

Concept & Inspiration:
I wanted to capture a spooky Halloween atmosphere: a lonely skeleton wandering through a dark graveyard holding a glowing lantern, surrounded by the shadows of bare trees, crosses, and bats.

How It Was Created:
This entire scene was shot using shadow projections, with just some minor post-processing to tweak contrast and moody tones.
* Lighting: A single small light source placed behind the setup to project the silhouettes onto the background.
* Setup: A mix of custom paper cutouts and physical LEGO elements used together to build the tree, cross, bat, and grave silhouettes, with the skeleton minifigure in the foreground holding a lantern.
* Gear: Handheld smartphone shot.

Photo Challenge Entry πŸ“· "Incident at the Demeter Station"

These images are a bit of a comparison/experiment. The first image was taken with my cell phone using the macro setting. The second image was taken with my Canon 70D using a macro filter. Settings = 25, F4, ISO 100. This is a re-shoot of an idea I had a few years ago. In the latest version, I built a small "hallway" of Demeter Station and used a laptop screen with a space image as the backdrop. I listed the build below using a cell phone flashlight and a small LED panel to light the scene from above. I wanted to give the "infected" spacemen a dramatic or stark lighting effect. The image taken with the cell phone provides a clear depiction of the scene, but the image taken with the Canon, in my opinion, really captures the lighting effect.

Danley and Staniel, on a routine visit to the Demeter Station, discover that some of the experiments on the local flora have gone awry! Run, boys, run!

Photo Challenge Entry πŸ“· "En Garde"

Post image

This image was taken using my cell phone set to macro. In addition to regular indoor lighting, I used a small cordless LED panel to add some dramatic lighting. I was excited to finally get the Swordsman minifig from the local LEGO shop's BAM and immediately kitted him out with a proper floppy and plumed hat. The scene for the image is one of my MOCs in my small LEGO city. Given the MOC is of a refurbished/updated castle/tower, I thought it was an appropriate backdrop.

Please welcome Le Comte Joaquin De Montnegro Hildebrandt! En Garde!
