Ontario New job won't pay for mandatory training???

I was hired at a retirement home a week ago, so I started my police check clearance ($59) and my TB testing ($100) and I know I won't be reimbursed for this...... apparently. So right away im out $159 just to start a new job.

Next thing you know they sign me up for their online modules... there's 35 to do.... which will take me a while to complete.

They want you to complete all of these before working, I said fine and got to work on some of it.

Then they send me an email saying to come in for Oct 15th, for my first day, but its for lift- training from 1pm-3:30pm. Im thinking ... ok... paid training.

We end the session and I ask if this is paid and the lady says "no this is not paid".

Excuse me? Im driving 70mins for mandatory lift training that we needed to have to start and im not being paid?

so now im at home trying to figure out if this is legal or not...???

Ontario Unsettling experience with TPS

Location: Toronto

So for context, I live at King and River in Toronto and my loft faces King Street.

Last night I was watching television and I heard a loud bang on my door. I answered it, and there were two Toronto police officers standing there. They told me they received a report from King St of a loud female scream coming from the building. I was there all night. I heard nothing.

My next-door neighbour has a girlfriend, so it might’ve been her.

Anyways, the cops asked to let themselves into my apartment and I told him I didn’t feel comfortable with that. Even though I had nothing to hide in my place and I was by myself all night I just felt entirely uncomfortable with what they were reporting and something just didn’t sit right with me. They started getting aggressive with me and saying they will get themselves in one way or another.

I opened the door wide for them, and turned on all the lights to let them see that I was by myself. But they continued to insist that I allow them inside. Eventually, after telling them repeatedly that I’m not comfortable with all of this they eventually left.

Did I handle this in the right way? Is there a way to dig up if there was actually a call made?

If you have nothing to hide, should you just let the cops inside?

Ontario Terminated without cause - 20 years of service

editing to add: thank you to everyone who has commented, you’ve been extremely helpful. We contacted a handful of Ontario based lawyers today and none can help because we live in QC :(

43 year old, work in Ontario, live in QC. Terminated due to company restructuring. Was offered 61.5 weeks of pay + $1500 lump sum, 6 months benefits.

We don’t understand this part “For greater clarity, as this entire amount is being offered to you up front as a lump sum, it is not subject to your duty to mitigate by searching for alternative employment. As such, if you obtain alternative employment at any time following the Termination Date, you will have no repayment obligation to the Company that you may have otherwise had. In addition, this amount is inclusive of, and not in addition to, your Statutory Entitlement.”

Is this part legal? “If you do not accept the above offer, all of your group insured benefits will terminate on December 9, 2026 and you will only receive payment of any accrued, unpaid vacation up to the end of the statutory notice period, earned wages, and your Statutory Entitlement.” This part scares us.

There are 3 pages of the “release & indemnity” section (consent and agree to stuff), it’s overwhelming, is this normal?

Should we consult an attorney?

Saskatchewan If I get a personal loan for a large purchase and use it to pay off credit card debt, will I get into legal trouble?

I was approved for a personal loan with my bank. I asked for debt consolidation, but they told me they aren't doing that right now. Two separate people told me to say it was for a large purchase or travel. However, when the manager came in I got the distinct impression I was supposed to lie to her about it. I am very concerned I'm committing some form of fraud and that I could end up in legal trouble if I don't use the funds the way I'm supposed to.

Edit: Thank you everybody. It sounds like since the application did not ask for specifics it will be okay, but I'll be sure to review the loan terms closely to be safe.

British Columbia Forced Firing - Is it Legal And Can I Refuse?

Edit: Thanks all. Got the answers I needed.

Working for a global company. HQ in Ontario. Sr. management has started giving us mandates to pick people on our teams to fire. They don’t care who, they just want heads cut. It’s gone from mentions, to here and there, to now almost daily pressure to let people go. There is no basis for the layoffs. They just want more AI and less people. I’m thinking to formally refuse and ask senior management to do it if they want to go through with it. In my mind the ask is unethical, and possibly legally dubious.

I need advice on what to do here. Obviously, I need to cover myself and ideally avoid having to go through with this. None of the staff deserve to be cut. There are no performance issues and nobody was ever under a performance plan.

Planning to exit myself in the relatively near future because the place has increasingly become toxic. Considered offering up myself to protect the team, but to be honest, I think they would just turn around and sack people anyway.

New Brunswick Struck in crosswalk by car (video/witnesses present) – Severe femur & hip fracture with hardware. Need recommendation on weather to hire lawyer & settlement ballpark?

• Upvotes

I’m looking for input on expected settlement ballparks and advice on proceeding with a personal injury firm in Canada (New Brunswick).
The Details:
Liability / Proof: Clear liability. I was a pedestrian crossing the street with a green walk light when a vehicle hit me. The incident was captured on video and there are independent witness statements confirming I had the right of way.
Injuries & Treatment: Severe femur and hip fractures requiring emergency surgery and permanent hardware installation, followed by hospitalization and ongoing physical therapy.
Occupation & Impact: Professional chef with over 20 years in high-volume kitchens. The injury directly prevents me from standing for prolonged shifts, lifting heavy equipment, or performing the physical demands of my trade, creating a massive impact on my future earning capacity.
Damages Claimed: General damages (pain & suffering), past lost income, loss of future earning capacity / competitive advantage in the labor market, and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Questions for the community:
1. Settlement Ballpark: Based on Canadian case law for severe orthopedic fractures requiring hardware and causing permanent career disruption to a skilled physical trade, is a combined claim valuation in the $400,000 to $1,000,000+ range realistic when accounting for loss of future earning capacity alongside pain and suffering?
2. Hiring a Firm: Given that liability is clear-cut with video and witness evidence, should I proceed directly with formally retaining a dedicated personal injury firm to handle insurer negotiations and litigation/funding advances, or is there any reason to delay?

British Columbia Is it legal for an employer to tell you who to vote for?

My employer sent out a multipage letter detailing why we should vote a certain way in the BC election. There are no threats in the letter, but it does (in my opinion) have the subtext of us losing money if we don’t vote a certain way. So I guess my question is, where is the line between intimidation and advice?

I’m sure copy pasting the letter would help with answers but I also think it would help with getting me in trouble and I need this job for at least 2 more years.

Alberta Finger Prints

I was arrested for Assault and given an undertaking with a court date for next month. I went back into the station to give my fingers prints, but the police sent me away and told me to call back a week before the court date because the charges may get withdrawn, and then i wouldn't need to get finger printed.

Will the Crown still review my file without my prints being done? How long does a precharge review take?

Ontario [Ontario] Salaried employee – No vacation pay or paid vacation. Can I claim it after leaving my job?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working in Ontario as a salaried employee, earning $4,000 gross per month ($48,000 annually).

I've been working for this company since January 2026 and I'm expecting to leave my job soon.

Here's my situation:

  • I'm paid a fixed monthly salary of $4,000 before taxes.
  • None of my pay stubs show any vacation pay (4%) or accumulated vacation pay.
  • I have never taken any paid vacation days since I started working here.
  • I have never received any separate vacation pay payments.
  • I never signed a formal employment contract, and my employer has never explained how vacation pay is handled.

From what I've read about Ontario's Employment Standards Act, employees with less than five years of service are generally entitled to at least 4% vacation pay.

I have a few questions:

  1. As a salaried employee, am I still entitled to 4% vacation pay even though I receive a fixed monthly salary?
  2. If I haven't taken any paid vacation or received vacation pay, does my employer have to pay out my accrued vacation pay when my employment ends?
  3. Can my employer simply claim that vacation pay was already included in my $4,000 monthly salary, even though there's no written agreement or indication on my pay stubs?
  4. If my employer refuses to pay the outstanding vacation pay, can I file an Employment Standards claim with the Ontario Ministry of Labour?
  5. Should I wait until I receive my final paycheque before raising this issue?

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation in Ontario.

Thanks in advance!

Ontario What to do about someone who is withholding my property?

• Upvotes

So I was in a situation at someone else's abode where I had to leave in an emergency. I left behind some of my belongings because I was in a rush, now the person who is in possession of my belongings is refusing to return them. I've asked several times if I could retrieve my items but it's become clear that they are unwilling to cooperate.

The items are valued at around 1,000$ and I can't afford to just leave it be. What should I do in this situation? I really have no idea where to start so any help is greatly appreciated.

Alberta Hourly vs Contingency

• Upvotes

I need help! I worked for a non profit organization for 17 years, a pretty big one, they’ve let me go with only 12 weeks of working notice, due to no fault of my own. I’ve consulted with an employment lawyer and now have to decide whether to go hourly or contingency(33.3%)I can afford to pay hourly for a while but am scared the legal fees could become too high to be manageable. I also hate the thought of giving away thousands and thousands of my settlement needlessly if it settles quickly.

Does anyone have experience with this? One of the Managing partners has been assigned to my case and he charges $600/hr. He did tell me he would have a junior lawyer or associate do the research and help out so I wouldn’t only be billed at the managing partners rate.

Any experience on if non profits typically settle quickly or play hard bill? I don’t know what to do and it’s making me so stressed and physically sick to my stomach !

Please help!

Alberta Can a community residents association initiate foreclosure proceedings on an owned property due to outstanding payments?

• Upvotes

I had health issues earlier this year, and am currently trying to get back on my feet and get caught up with my finances.

I live in a neighborhood with a residents association, and was unable to pay my yearly dues because of the situation I was in.

The fees went to what appears to be a collection agency, but I’m not quite sure (Walsh LLP Barristers & Solicitors). I spoke to them on the phone about creating a payment arrangement for the outstanding balance. They created an arrangement without my knowledge, as I told them I’d call them back to confirm the dates that would work.

Because the first payment of the arrangement was missed, it appears I’m in hot water and I’m very stressed and worried. I received a letter stating that if the full amount wasn’t paid by an upcoming date, they would “commence foreclosure proceedings without further notice”.

I attempted to get in contact with them by phone today, and was unable to reach them, and didn’t get a call back.

I’m not sure what to do. I’m very worried.

British Columbia Going to lose my home, please help

Manufactured home missing certification, failed renovations, foreclosure expected in November...what legal options do I have?

I bought a manufactured home on a rented pad in BC in 2024 for $78,000 using my inheritance. A lawyer handled the purchase, and the contract stated the home would comply with applicable BC laws. I later discovered it lacked CSA certification/Silver Label approval.

I spent approximately $79,000 on renovations, including electrical work quoted to include certification and permitting. The home still has unresolved electrical deficiencies and no Silver Label. The electrician I hired used another company’s permit, and there are disputes about who supervised and was responsible for the work.

I’ve repeatedly asked Technical Safety BC to investigate the permitting and inspection issues and provide options. I believe their handling has contributed to the situation remaining unresolved. I cannot afford independent inspections or further repairs.

The home was appraised at $185,000 assuming completion, but attempts to sell for $120,000 have failed after buyers learned the history and deficiencies. My $65,000 private mortgage is due in November 2026; the lender has refused another extension, and foreclosure is expected.

I have contracts, payment records, messages discussing certification, inspection reports and recordings. I’m struggling to find affordable legal representation.

What urgent steps should I take before foreclosure, and how do I identify viable claims against the seller, conveyancing lawyer, contractors or potentially TSBC? Are there BC legal services that handle cases like this on contingency or provide limited assistance to self-represented people?

Ontario 17 year old refuses to go home & staying in shelter. Seeking advice.

Coming on here to receive some advice as a sister of a runaway 17 year old brother.

Long story short, my brother went to school and never came home. He told the school he was being abused at home and the school sent him to a youth shelter.

He has a history of running away and demanding to go to the shelter. For context, he was in the shelter last year for about 2 months until the people working on his case kicked him out and told him to go home as there was no reason for him to be there.

Another instance was earlier this year when he ran away at night. He ended up calling the Ottawa police who basically gave him a meal and told him we cannot do anything and he’s off on his own as he has a documented pattern of doing this. Later that night he was texting my dad back and forth saying he’ll only come home if he gets to play video games all day. My dad said no but he came home late at night because he had no other options.

The main reason he does this is because he has a severe gaming addiction. He’s also on antidepressants and his mental health is not great. His doctor is aware of this and told our dad to only allow him 2 hours of screen time aside from school work. He’s compliant for the most part but he definitely does not like this rule. But it is for the best given everything he has done (stole 5 Chromebook from school, threatened a kid from school and got suspended, reporting abuse at home even when there is none, etc.).

Anyways, he started grade 12 last month. School was getting harder. He’s on an IEP, encouraged to go the teachers classroom during lunch. He has every resource available to him as my dad requested all this for him so that he could do well in school. My dad and I are constantly monitoring his school work, helping him with his homework, my dad follows up with his teachers on his progress, etc. everything that needs to be done to support him is being done. He’s also the type of kid that if he tries, he does well. The problem is he doesn’t try and also doesn’t have the intention do school without some pressure. Especially since this is his last year of high school and with college application opening up soon, my dad wants him to focus a bit more so that he can get into college. Anyways, so during high school my brother had trouble doing a full load of classes per semester. So to make it easier for him, he did the tougher courses in the summer to lighten the load. So right now, he’s ahead and he has 2 spares in school and 3 classes. 2 of the classes are in person. One of the classes is online which he’s meant to do during the spare or whenever he has free time at home. So since he has half the school day free, he’ll just play games all day, chat around, etc.

My main point is he’s lost his mind completely. He has no idea what he’s doing with his life. He’s playing every trick in the book from spreading lies, saying he’s being abused, saying his home is unsafe, etc. He’s also being influenced by this guy who’s also living at the shelter. This guy is assuming 20 and has been at the shelter for quite a while. He knows the ins and outs of it and has been giving my brother tips on how to stay. We’ve reported this guy to the police for trying to influence a minor because that’s all we could do.

Fast forward he’s been in the shelter now for over 2 weeks. And all he’s done within those 2 weeks is play video games and chat. There are 2 rules to stay in the shelter which is to either continue school or work yet he’s doing neither. It’s impossible for him to even attend the school in person because the shelter is downtown and the school is in a remote area excluded from bus services. The shelter knows he has a pattern of doing this but continues to offer him shelter, Ontario works funding, provides visa gift cards, etc. They have zero knowledge on whether he does his school, what he’s doing day to day. He tells them he’s doing his school work and they believe it. We still have access to his google classrooms, VLE, etc. and we can clearly see he’s not even logging into the school portal or doing the work. Just 2 days ago, he received funding and he used that to buy a gaming laptop from Kijiji. We’ve provided screenshots, emails, anything you can name to show what he’s doing but nothing is getting taken seriously.

Since then my dad has been continuously going back and forth with every person possible to bring him back home or stop the shelter from enabling him to continue what he’s doing.

We’ve contacted
CAS
Police
Detective
Youth Police
Case workers
MPP office + going back and forth with their ombuds lawyer)
Cathy Curry (city councillor)
School principals

The ottawa police detective told us that the sheltering system is completely broken and that she’s on our side. She told my dad to keep fighting it and document everything as we go. She’s also aware of the sheltering system enabling kids as she sees it in her day to day work and with many other families struggling. So we’re working with everyone possible. The issue is since he’s 17 he blocked us everywhere and also blocked everyone from providing us any info about him.

What else can we do? How can we escalate this even more? Who else can we contact to put pressure on the shelter, on CAS, the school, etc. to respond to our messages and concerns. We requested a family meeting with him with all parties present, but he denied. CAS/police encouraged him to go home and he denied. Before all of this even happened, my dad wanted him to go to therapy or counseling and he refused.

We requested the shelter, case, worker, etc. to let him stay but deny/restrict access to his internet and unnecessary fundings in cash because that’s the only thing keeping him in there. I can guarantee that he would leave the shelter and return back home if that rule was applied. But they refuse to answer our emails.

Please don’t comment saying to just let him be and let him figure it out. He doesn’t think properly and needs proper guidance. I’m looking for every possible outlet.

If there’s any questions, I’ll do my best to answer.

Ontario Company wants to change employment contract to include stronger termination clauses

I’m about a year in to a management role with a company that is firmly established in other parts of the country but is still finding its feet in Ontario.

I’ve learned that the company plans to provide all Ontario employees with updated contracts in the new year that include tighter termination clauses with the aim to limit severance to ESA minimums. Apparently in order to receive annual increases and some other minor benefits, employees will have to agree to this updated contract.

I’m not entirely sure how to navigate this or how big a deal this really is.

Do I refuse? Try to negotiate to get more understanding that I’m giving up something significant? If I say no then what?

Any advice appreciated.

Canada Does Canada apostille LAC documents without notarization?

I have my great-grandfather's 1931 naturalization record from LAC and I need it apostilled for Lithuanian citizenship by descent. I'm getting conflicting answers on whether Global Affairs Canada will apostille the document without a Canadian notary or whether I somehow have to find one.

Thank you for your time and your help in this matter. Apologies if this is the wrong sub for this question.

British Columbia Don’t have access to live mortgage balance

There’s a property under my name but the mortgage is under my mother’s. (Not sure how this is possible). I want to pay off the remainder of the house because I believe there’s only around 20-30k left on the house but she won’t let me access the remainder. Is there anyway I can override this and pay it off if my name is on the land title but the mortgage isn’t under hers?

New Brunswick Legal aid lawyer now crown prosecutor

So I got an email saying I had a new lawyer with no reason why. So I contacted that person and I didn’t realize that my old lawyer was attached to the email.

Well it turns out my new lawyer told me that my old lawyer is now a crown prosecutor , since she was aware of everything already because we had spoke before. Is this a like conflict of interest or compromised my case ?

I don’t understand how someone I told my information too would now be involved in the opposition. I don’t think she means MY crown processutor. But I am so confused. I have trial on November 4th and I wanna pled guilty just to put and end to it because my mental health can’t do this.

And this is one of the times where I would say I am innocent. I was protecting myself and ended up being charged , But I don’t have anything proof of it because my witness died.

I’m rambling now but I mostly need info on if this is allowed ?

Alberta Severance Advice

I was fired without cause at the end of June after 5.5 years with a seasonal construction company (season from early May to late November usually). 6 and 1, 70ish hour weeks normally for the season, we get a profit share that usually works out to about one extra cheque. I was paid 4 weeks severance at my wage times 44 hours per week. They offered to immediately rehire me at a 10% wage cut in a slightly different role with much less opportunity, but I refused because of the extremely unusual circumstances, the fact they cancelled my benefits instantly and I wouldn't have them again until the next season, and mostly the fact I'd be fighting for more opportunities for the last 3 years so an explicit step backwards was intolerable.

Anyway sorry that's immaterial to the question I'm just blogging. Would it be worth consulting a lawyer and trying for more? The information is hard to find because it's seasonal, and given that they paid me legal minimum severance I'm not sure what's available. I never signed anything.

Alberta Commercial Lease: Tenant Installing Cameras

Hi,

Under a commercial lease, if a tenant installs security cameras attached to the ceiling with 4 screws, can the tenant remove them when the lease ends?

I know there are rules for attaching something to a wall that belongs to the landlord, but cameras are easy to install and remove, so I am not sure they still apply.

For the reasonable operation of the business, cameras are not necessary; they are recommended for the safety of its operations.

Ontario Disadvantaged for promotion due to maternity/parental leave

Hello,

I’m looking for advice and confirmation about my options in a very troubling situation.

I work at a public Ontario university as a staff member. My team is composed of the manager, as well as three Junior Positions (JP) and three Senior Positions (SP). During my second maternity/parental leave (current), a promotion I received before they knew I was pregnant again was effectively rescinded. Further, my manager told me directly that my maternity leave was part of the decision… Let me explain via the timeline:

May 2023: hired in the Junior Position (JP) - first manager I had (Manager 1) highly recommended me for the SP

July 2024-Oct 2025: first maternity/parental leave, Manager 1 leaves

Oct 2025: return to work with a temporary contract into the SP, with the promise from Manager 2 that it would become permanent after the 1 year. My “home” role is still the JP

March 2026: second maternity/parental leave begins

April 2026: I’m told by Manager 2 that now HR says they have to post the SP role externally because our office has been doing too many direct hires and it has to be a competition (HR later admits there is no indication in their records that this is true). I figure I just need to jump through some hoops to make it permanent, it really sucks around newborn/postpartum/breastfeeding, but I apply and….

May 2026: interview with a panel including Manager 2…. Three weeks later I’m told that they had to go with this external guy who was just such a stellar incredible and irresistible candidate

June 2026: I have a follow-up conversation with Manager 2 to seek more clarity. This time I record the 22-minute conversation. I ask for interview and performance feedback and he goes on and on about how great I did, everyone was so impressed with me, I’m so valued in the office but keeps falling back on the fact that this other candidate was just so amazing.

Side note: I spoke with my staff association who said that the very act of posting the permanent position when I was in the role temporarily goes directly against our compact between the association and the university, which states that someone in a temporary role will be offered the permanent contract if it’s approved. I’m sure my office gets around this in their heads via there being 3 SPs (“she was filling in SP1, and we posted SP2” - but they are identical job descriptions)

In the same conversation with my manager, I ask “so was there no opportunity to give me the permanent contract and instead post a temporary contract to cover my leave?” (ie to actually follow the compact) And he tells me that having temporary contracts was not something the department wanted to have to continue to address. Given that if I had received the SP permanently, this would have required a contract to cover the rest of my maternity leave, myself and my staff association see this as a clear indication that my maternity leave was a consideration, which would violate both the Ontario Human Rights Code and the ESA.

HR has agreed that I’ve been disadvantaged, and told me they would be firm with my office that they need to give me a contract. I asked about a timeline, and they said 2 weeks. This was said 3 weeks ago, and I haven’t heard from her since. Getting anxious.

I’m told there are two options, and I’m looking for advice and further details about each:

Option 1: I still have a job at the university

- go to HR in good faith to work out the violation of the compact (ie just give me the SP) - this process has already begun

Questions: looking for advice on negotiations: what can I ask for beyond the permanent contract at a fair salary? More personal days? A different position at the university? How do I word such negotiations? I believe HR will not reprimand the office…. So my human rights violation just gets swept away which feels wrong. Could I request trainings in the office about equality for women in the workplace?

Option 2: no job (if negotiations fail)

- bring in a lawyer to negotiate a termination package, which I’ve been told wouldn’t be much because I’ve only been working there 3 years

- submit case to the Human Rights Tribunal and seek damages (?)

Questions: what happens in this scenario, can anyone give me further details? From this limited information, do I have a reasonable case? Does it make me unemployable? How long could this take?

Further questions: Do I have any other options to explore? What advice do you have for someone experiencing this? Thank you in advance for your attention.

Ontario Financial advisor obligations for terminally ill, Canadian investors

I’m hoping someone familiar with Canadian investment regulations, financial advisor obligations or Ontario estate law can offer some guidance.

My mother passed away in June 2025 after battling advanced ovarian cancer.

In 2024, while undergoing chemotherapy and living with a terminal diagnosis, she sold her home and invested approximately $500,000 from the proceeds through a financial advisor.

The advisor was fully aware of her cancer diagnosis, her ongoing chemotherapy treatments and the seriousness of her condition.

Following her death, my sister and I met with a financial advisor at RBC to discuss some financial matters.

During that meeting, we were informed that my mother’s investments had been placed in the **second-highest investment risk category**.

The RBC advisor expressed serious concerns about the suitability of these investments given my mother’s circumstances. We were subsequently told that he had escalated his concerns to his superiors.

Unfortunately, these conversations were verbal, and we were not provided with a written report or formal findings.

What troubles me is that my mother had sold her home and was living with a terminal illness. Financial stability, preservation of capital and access to funds for her ongoing care would seemingly have been important considerations.

I understand that a terminal diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean someone cannot hold higher-risk investments. However, I question whether this level of risk was appropriate given her circumstances and whether the advisor properly assessed her financial needs and investment time horizon.

**Here’s where things become particularly frustrating.**

I contacted both the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI).

During those discussions, my concerns were acknowledged as potentially warranting examination. However, I was told that because I am not the estate trustee, they could not proceed with an investigation on my behalf.

I am a beneficiary of my mother’s estate, but the estate trustee is another individual, and there is currently an ongoing legal dispute concerning the estate.

As a result, I feel caught in a situation where potentially inappropriate investment decisions cannot be properly examined because I don’t have the legal authority to pursue the complaint.

**I’m hoping someone can help me understand the following:**

  1. What suitability obligations would a Canadian financial advisor have when investing a substantial amount of money for someone known to be terminally ill?
  2. Would placing approximately $500,000 into the second-highest risk category generally warrant additional scrutiny in these circumstances?
  3. Can CIRO accept or investigate concerns about potential advisor misconduct independently, even when the person reporting them is not the estate trustee?
  4. Does an estate trustee have an obligation to investigate potential financial misconduct or unsuitable investment recommendations involving the deceased person’s assets?
  5. Is there any avenue for an estate beneficiary to request an independent investigation when the estate trustee is unwilling to pursue one?
  6. Are there other regulatory bodies or consumer protection organizations in Ontario that might be able to examine the circumstances?

I’m not looking to publicly identify or accuse the financial advisor or firm. I recognize that determining whether misconduct occurred would require reviewing the actual investment records and suitability assessments.

**I’m simply trying to understand how a beneficiary can raise legitimate concerns about a deceased parent’s investments when the formal complaint process appears to require the cooperation of an estate trustee.**

My mother worked her entire life for what she had. I want to understand whether her financial interests were properly protected during an incredibly vulnerable period of her life.

Any guidance from Canadian financial professionals, estate lawyers or individuals who have experienced something similar would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
