I've got a 2015 LR4 with the supercharged V6 (SCV6), sitting at just 90k miles. I'm down in Florida.
Over the past 12 months, I've dumped a pretty substantial amount of money into getting this thing just right. Sway bars, coolant pipes, engine mounts, and an entirely new air suspension system. And when I say entirely new, I mean pretty much everything.
Unfortunately, while driving home from vacation, the engine decided to give up on life. Completely seized. Something let go in the bottom end, and the oil was full of bearing material. Looked like metallic glitter. Not exactly the kind of sparkle I was hoping for.
What really sucks is that I genuinely fell in love with this damn truck. I've owned plenty of vehicles, but there's just something about the LR4. The ride, comfort, capability, and overall driving experience are hard to replace.
So now I'm at a crossroads.
Option 1: Cut my losses, sell it as-is, and move on.
Option 2: Replace the engine and keep enjoying it. My local shop is quoting me around $25k for a remanufactured SCV6. That's a painful number.
Option 3: If I'm going to be a bear, I might as well be a grizzly. Go completely off the deep end and do a ridiculous engine swap.
I've been looking at the guys over at "Roadside Werx" (https://roadsidewerx.com/) in Colorado. They do those wild 700 HP supercharged swaps in LR4s, and I'm seriously tempted. Especially since the pricing appears to be in the same ballpark as what my local shop wants just to put another SCV6 in it.
Obviously, shipping the truck from Florida to Colorado isn't ideal. If anyone knows a reputable shop on the East Coast capable of doing something similar, I'm all ears.
So, what would you do?
Am I completely nuts for considering dumping another $25k into a 2015 LR4? Or does it actually make sense to turn a truck I already love, and have already invested heavily in, into something pretty special?
Part of me knows the financially responsible answer. The other part of me is already imagining a 700 HP LR4.
Talk some sense into me. Or don't. I'm open to bad influences too. 😂
