Art / Creations Finally finished my son’s “driller gun! (Aliens inspired)
Background: My 8yo son likes to come up with fictional “weapon” designs (just toys), and asks me to build them for him. In the past I’ve made the toys out of wood. We got a 3d printer last year and I taught myself to use it. My son came up and asked me (about 4 months ago) to make him a “driller gun”, and gave me a drawing of what he wanted. So I taught myself how to design things in Blender, and have finally completed the driller gun! There’s a master switch that turns everything on. Then each button turns on a laser sight, a core warming light, then the core instead, and then gives power to the motors. There is speed control and also a trigger to turn on the drill. It was so much work (I’ll probably keep adding tweaks to it, but it was so cool to do all of this.

Art / Creations XenomorphTimeline.com's biggest update yet: a new look and 239 new entries
Hello there!
About a year ago, I launched https://xenomorphtimeline.com/ as an attempt to build a chronological timeline of both canon and non canon media, and the love it got earned it a spot in this sub's sidebar 😄
I've just pushed its biggest update yet: a new look and 239 new entries, mostly Predator and legacy media, but also the most recent stuff we got from the Disney era.
As usual I'm open to feedback, especially if there's a timeline or canon error somewhere.
Enjoy :-)

Discussion / Question I figured out how fast FTL in-universe: 14.51c
In Prometheus, at 8 minutes and 0 seconds, the text says that they are 3.27 x 10^14 kilometers from earth. That's 34.56 light years. When Vickers is doing push-ups outside her cryopod, David tells her at 13 minutes and 18 seconds that it has been 2 years, 4 months, and 18 days. That's 2.3826 years. So they covered 34.56 light years in 2.3826 years. That means they were going 14.51 times the speed of light. That would be the best available tech as of 2.3826 years before December 21, 2093, which is the date shown at the 8-minute mark. Best available tech because that's Peter Weyland's ship, so it stands to reason they used the best, newest FTL tech that they could because he was close to death and so needed to get there as fast as possible. I have not accounted for time dilation or whatever other hard scifi gobbledygook that complicates the problem.
Discussion / Question Just finished 3D printing this! An Alien Bone Throne - Biomech Phone Stand / Holder Giger Style
Just finished 3D printing this!
In the depth of cold space, facing whatever horror lurks in the dark, your communication device will remain safe within the skeletal grip of this alien throne.
Inspired by the dark, biomechanical art of H.R. Giger and classic sci-fi lore, this phone stand is crafted from intricate weaves of bone, vertebrae, and organic conduits.
It serves not only as a fully functional desk accessory but also as a striking display piece for sci-fi fans and collectors.
Printed it using a 0.4mm nozzle on 0.20mm layer, on Biqu Orange Frostbite plate with Bambulab Carbon Black matte PLA on X2D.

Discussion / Question Is it weird that I don't really like the exaggerated concept of the xenomorph taking on traits from their hosts
Now I've always loved xenomorphs and everything about them, but what bothers me is how people exaggerat the xenomorph taking on traits from their hosts. I've always felt hesitant with this as I feel people exaggerat it way to much when I feel It should be treated how it was in alien 3, where the runner alien only became more aggressive and agile as well as becoming a quadrupled xenomorph. I still love xenomorphs and they're biology but with them gaining traits from their hosts to a exaggerated lever bothers me as I also feel it shouldn't be traits from each animal but from animals that are similar. An example being quadrupeds produce runners and any aquatic life produces a aquaticmorph that isn't exaggerated but looks similar to a drone with aquatic features.

Discussion / Question Influences
I just read the 1953 short story "Junkyard" by Clifford D. Simak, which inspired the derelict ship.
When it came to influences for Alien, Dan O' Bannon happily said that "I didn't steal from anybody, I stole from everybody."
Which leads me to wonder how many times someone pointed out an element that he borrowed from some old science fiction short story, and O' Bannon just said "Sure, that sounds about right. I forgot the name of the story I stole that part from, but that's probably it."

Discussion / Question Alien Covenant Discovery
Recently watched Alien Covenant again and couldn't help but notice after the alien is crushed, David disguised as Walter patches up the crew mate the crew member asks "how is it?" And David replies "It's fine" He looks ever so slightly pissed off and struggles to contain his anger at his creature being crushed. Walter throughout the entire film never shows even the slightest emotion, that little flicker of emotion I wonder if it was intentional.

Discussion / Question Re: "Why did they choose this body part?” …Umm...Everyone is wrong?
Re: Alien Earth S1 E3 ending: why the lungs?
I saw the post and was shocked that virtually all replies say it’s because the alien embryo is always in the lungs as shown by the ship data (Alien Earth) or canon from Alien or Aliens.
“They enter through the trachea”
“The facehuggers provide oxygen”
“They cough up blood…therefore, lungs.”
“The eggs detect breathing"
“Lungs, trachea, heart, liver or intestines? Lungs b/c of the research files. Kirsch downloaded all of it.”
"Makes sense. The tube the face hugger sticks in the mouth goes into the lungs. The robot [Kirsch] probably got the idea / info from the files copied from the ship. Remember it has the pic of the tube down someone's throat"
What? The scene literally spells it out?
In Alien Earth, season 1, episode 2 (3:08-3:18) they show on the background screen AND Joe reads out loud that “he had some kind of foreign body lining his GI tract. I looked up the scene because I was trying to understand why the imagery looked so…inappropriate…and what part of the GI tract it was physically supposed to resemble because it just looks like what it’s symbolically supposed to represent. Either way, clearly states GI tract so genuinely confused why everyone is certain they gestate in the lungs?
Am I missing something, or is everyone else?
Also, what part of the GI tract is that scene supposed to represent? (because it sure looks like something else!)

Art / Creations Yet another 3d printed pulse rifle
So when I got my first 3d printer a few years ago one of the first things I printed was a replica of the pulse rifle. Always wanted one, and there's an excellent and free model by the awesome Props3D with a removable magazine, a working trigger and pump and even a working cocking handle. Unfortunately over time it started cracking and warping. I patched it up and repainted it as best I could but I was less happy with it, so when I recently got a new printed I built a new one. Same Props3D model, slightly personalized with a tacticool grip, a xenomorph charm, an slightly edited magazine with a caseless bullet and a grenade with working button at the top. All free models I found online.
...Then I also did some improvements to the old pulse rifle. So I'll probably keep it. Meaning I have 2 pulse rifles. And the Alien Romulus smart pulse rifle I printed a while back. So 3 pulse rifles. Yeah.

Discussion / Question Which Alien comics have that retro-futuristic aesthetic in its art?
I remember being really disappointed by the art when I read the Bloodlines comic. Aside from the fact that I personally find Salvador Larroca’s art, and his technique of tracing figures, quite ugly, I was let down because it didn't capture the saga's retro-futuristic style. There is a scene featuring a car with the sleekest design I’ve ever seen, with LED lights and rounded surfaces.
That’s why I’m asking if there are any comics that feature that retro-futuristic aesthetic, much like the Isolation in video game did. The only one that comes to mind is Dead Orbit (though that had a more cluttered, caricatured style), so I’m wondering, are there comics that truly maintain that retro-futuristic aesthetic?

Discussion / Question Speculating about how the egg/facehugger got on board the Sulaco EV in Alien 3 - How could the writers leave it so ambiguous?
I know this topic has been done many, many times over the years, but my personal take was that the queen, despite detaching from the egg ovipositor, had a single final egg that was gestating inside of her, which due to all the movement and intensity of the escape on board the dropship, was laid in the landing gear where the queen was hiding once it was "jiggled loose" or what have you - her final egg. That it would be a queen facehugger would make even more sense in that context.
I just spitballed this idea in 5 minutes tonight after re-watching the Bishop scene from Alien 3. I can't believe that this wasn't the obvious exposition that they went for instead of just saying "yes there was an alien onboard". I'm genuinely surprised that they couldn't figure out this same idea, or a very similar one. Was that ever presented in previous drafts of the script? I know Rex Pickett once said some insane shit once time about Bishop raping Ripley and his sperm being infected, but that's the only other one I know.
Art / Creations A few folks on the Pokemon subreddit said my "Ash with a Diglett chestburster" costume would be appreciated here...

Cast / Behind The Scenes The Space Jockey set is absolutely amazing
Apologies if someone posted this (or similar) in recent times, but I found this website that shows lots of pics from the set of Alien. I had always wondered what the set looked like for the Space Jockey. They really went all out on this set. I really think the phrase "They don't make 'em like they used to" applies here. Modern movies would have done this entire scene using green screens Im sure. I am truly in awe of how good of a job these artists did for this movie. I think I remember reading that the astornoauts Dallas, Lambert, and Kane were portrayed by idley Scott's kids to make the set appear even larger.
