Our subs show some promise. Thayllon and Walta are going to be dangerous once they get the chemistry.
Besides pressing, our players need to challenge when the opposing team has possession of the ball. There was a play where Jesus challenged and shocked the Vancouver defense as he stole the ball and passed it to Bouanga. We need that in the offense.

4 minutes of stoppage time this game, and there was 9 minutes last game? Refs really need to be investigated for gambling.
regardless, great to see Bouanga back in front of goal. Maybe too late this season and not enough time to exorcise the taint of MDS, but hopefully we can put in a philosphy/strategy that can actually have us competing these playoffs.

It was pretty absurd to have only 4 minutes and then to blow the whistle on the dot

u/SinoSoul In that order 3d ago
The ref also refused to speed up the game , by not penalizing them for absolute time wasting shithousing. Their time management was totally skewed against us. That said, if we couldn’t score another goal in 45’, another 4’ wouldn’t have made a difference.

White caps really leaning into the dark arts at the end of the game just to waste a ton of time and have the ref call the game right at 4 minutes.
99 with a header is something you never see.
Xavi on the side line was really into the game in general at the end as we were pressing for a goal.
Vasquez needs to continue to start.

Taka — their keep — literally refused to take the ball from the ref for a goal kick and insisted on grabbing his water bottle near the end. Then he went down but refused a trainer. Dude was getting booed so hard. The fact there was only 4” added after all that was freaking wild. They should’ve been punished.

This was a concacaf af game and LAFC need to learn the dark arts

The dark arts don’t help when you’re NOT trying to waste time

u/balmengor Aqui esta el pinche trofeo! 3d ago
They certainly do when you flop to get set pieces/draw cards

u/Beginning_Ratio9319 Club de Foot de Los Angeles 3d ago
Usually that just wastes time you don’t have, however

Brand new coach and so many new players who never played together before. Sadly, there’s isn’t much time left in the season and the early red card made this a huge missed opportunity, but there’s no denying they looked vastly better than before the break.

u/LA_search77 4d ago
I agree.
Also, the Whitecaps played like it was a playoff match; they had an outstanding game.
Midweek game, so not much time to continue working on things, but we should still expect to see improvements in chemistry and understanding.

u/POCCulture 4d ago
Yup. This is a team that lost to KC 1-3 before the break. Vancouver is at least at the top of the table

I know we didn’t win against a 10 men team, but I don’t have the doom and gloom feeling like I did with MDS (not yet at least). It wasn’t as bad as with MDS.

First time ever watching (as an Arsenal fan from London), felt like the team lacked a lot of confidence and if they’d taken their time / picked the right passes it’d be a different story. I hadn’t realised it was a new manager which makes a lot of sense now.
I couldn’t understand Son’s positioning all game and I couldn’t believe he didn’t shoot when he had the opportunity on his left foot towards the end. He’s buried that chance so many times against Arsenal in the past!
4 minutes added at the end was ridiculous considering the 5 minutes added in the first half.

He’s not putting your football knowledge down, he’s talking about MLS after dark. Aka random crazy things happen, refs make dumb calls, and like you mentioned nothing makes sense like 4 mins added only. MLS after dark is the joke way we call it when games in MLS happen with these weird things, such as LAFC up a man the whole match but getting scored on first

The only thing that possibly makes sense about Segura continuing to get starts is that he’s spent a ton of time with these assistant coaches and they trust him over other players.
Unless there is an injury issue I just don’t understand why we didn’t stick with Porteous and Tafari as the starting CB duo. They were lights out at the beginning of the year. They played well with the rest of the team.
I also don’t get what’s going on with Delgado. Has he been injured? Why play Choiniere, who has been on international duty for three weeks over him?
Was not impressed by Xavi. Thought the subs were poorly done (Sieb was done by the 65th minute mark). Why wait to the 85th minute to bring him off?
I just hate how poorly the team presses. There is absolutely no organization from the front. Bouanga does his own thing. Son is half hearted. Sieb looks confused. I can’t blame Xavi because they’ve been on break, but in my opinion that’s the biggest issue with this team. Until they can lock in to press together on the same page they just will not create the turnovers needed to utilize their best skills.

Samesies. Porteous and Tafari were there for so many of Lloris’ shutouts. Rly cannot understand why Segura is playing non-stop

The best thing about last night: my $12 on vermont. Al pastor queso con todo fries. This team can’t take the habanero salsa away from me.

Sonny’s age is showing tonight. (Srry not srry) great player but those little touches could have made the difference. Okay 99 on the left for 80 min then Sonny for the remaining 10min. 👌🏼

u/Additional-Sun-497 4d ago
Delusional take 😂
I would love for Son to be able to take some rest and not be run into the ground like he is. nobody expected him to play full time after playing 4 back to back international matches. But ironically you’re the ones who’d complain if he does get rest.3

Son's first touch and decision-making was shocking tonight.

u/Additional-Sun-497 3d ago
It wasn’t even that bad. Y’all love to exaggerate. He created plenty of chances for his teammates for which he could’ve easily gotten assists. He had shots on target, which the goalie saved because he’s a good goalie with 11 clean sheets. He also had defensive contributions and good corner kicks that could’ve easily also led to goals.

It’s fine and normal to be frustrated when the best player your team has ever had is performing sub par

u/Additional-Sun-497 3d ago
Did I say it’s not? It’s also fine for me to point out an over exaggeration and a bad take. You want Son to sub in for 10 minutes? I know most ppl (including op who suggested it) would be fuming if that actually happened lol.

u/sardonicharmonics En las Buenas y las Malas 3d ago
I’d like Sonny to be well rested tbh, it’s no secret he’s not got the legs for as many minutes as he’s been playing which no doubt contributes to some of his technical, finishing, and decision making woes this season.

Out with the old coach, in with the interim. I want to give them some grace but it is a little tough given the fact our boy Blackmon got a red card. Not sure how to feel about it. I know this isn’t a positive result but damn it, something in me wants to remain positive about the team as a whole…
Anyway, here are my takeaways:
- Bouanga is best on the wing. He wasn’t bad at all tonight but he’s more dangerous when he’s on the left wing and not through the center
- Sieb, Vasquez, Cheberko, Porteous, Palencia, and of course, Lloris are all looking pretty solid
- Igor Jesus was so nice coming on. He needs to be a nailed on starter if he can handle it
- Leo Walta also looked solid
- Choiniere was pretty bad tonight but he’s not necessarily expected to be great tbf
- And sorry guys but I’m starting to give up on our boy Son. He’s not awful. But he’s not very good. Overthinking everything. But what to do with him? Who knows
EDIT: I also was a fan of Xavi using substitutes early on. He realized what we were doing wasn’t working, let it play out through to the half, then started making changes and the substitutes did well
1
u/squishyng 3d ago
How was Segura? If we play with back 4, I’d rather have Porteous Tafari Cherberko Palencie, then Jesus Walta Vasquez, then Bouanga Son Sieb
2
u/Educational_Wolf_973 3d ago
Oh yeah can’t believe I forgot about Segura. He was bad. Segura cannot be a starter. Long, Tafari, should be miles ahead of him in the depth chart, alongside Porteous.
I agree with your ideal lineup though hopefully we see more of that during this season end stretch

The new head coach mustn't have had new strategies and tactics for the squad, if he had that, might not have used the way like that.

MDS was not the only problem. This season is a complete wash
4
u/LA_search77 4d ago
How many minutes do you reckon it takes to completely change the team's system and fix bad habits?
-4
u/Dr-Pope Olly 4d ago
I don’t know but to me the idea of firing your coach with only 6 games left is to see an immediate improvement. I really didn’t see an improvement.
1
u/LA_search77 4d ago
That was a much better performance. I would guess it would have been a far poorer result if we had played the way we did under Marc.
