Everyday life in Kyiv as explosions echo in the background

Working on video calls, parenting, and going about daily routines — all while explosions echo in the background.

As Russia intensifies its aerial strikes on Kyiv, residents carry on with essential life tasks while living under constant threat and fear.

Planning to move to Kyiv. Is a starting salary of UAH 40,000 realistic for me?

Hope it's a right question for this sub

I speak Russian (native), Turkish (native), Ukrainian (C1), Azerbaijani (B2), English (C1, IELTS 7.5) and German (C1, Goethe Zertifikat C1).

Graduated with bachelor's in econometrics from a mid tier uni in Turkey with a gpa of 3.3/4.0

Two internships in Azerbaijan, totalling approximately five months, in credit analysis and accounting.

Technical skills: Python, R, Sql, Power Bi, Excel.

I'm also considering obtaining the CFA Level I and FRM Part I certifications, tho I'm not sure how well known they are among recruiters.

Azerbaijani citzen.

For plethora of personal reasons I really want to move to Ukraine, specifically Kyiv.

So my questions are:

  1. Is earning UAH 40,000 net per month realistic for a fresh graduate with this profile?
  2. How competitive would I be against Ukrainian graduates applying for junior financial analyst, credit risk analyst, trading roles, or other entry level positions?
  3. How much of a disadvantage would my Azerbaijani citizenship and the additional employment paperwork create? Would companies realistically be willing to hire and sponsor a foreign junior candidate?
  4. How in demand are part time, remote language tutors in Ukraine, particularly for Turkish and German? Considering tutoring as a part time job too

Do you know any shops where I can buy a Ukrainian embroidered medical coat (vyshyvanka style)??

Hi everyone!
I’m a Japanese doctor planning to volunteer in Ukraine this December.
I’d love to get a white medical coat with traditional Ukrainian embroidery (vyshyvanka style) to wear while working there.
Unfortunately, Ukrainian embroidered medical coats aren’t very common in Japan, so I haven’t been able to find one here.
Does anyone know any Ukrainian shops, designers, or websites that sell or custom-make these kinds of medical coats?
Ideally, I’m looking for a shop that offers international shipping to Japan.
I’d be especially happy to support a Ukrainian business!
Thanks so much in advance for any recommendations! 🇯🇵🇺🇦

Obviously this will be dependent on location and the building unit itself, but roughly how much will it cost per month?

How safe is it to travel to Kyiv right now? I have accommodation booked November 11-15 next to Maidan. How are things usually in late autumn/early winter?

Czech guy looking for job opportunities in Kyiv 🇨🇿🇺🇦

Hey everyone!

I'm a 31-year-old guy from the Czech Republic, and I'm currently looking for job opportunities in Kyiv.

I've visited Ukraine several times, including during the full-scale war, and I've developed a strong personal connection to the country. I have friends in Kyiv, I love the city, and honestly, it's one of the few places where I genuinely feel at home.

My professional background is quite diverse. I've worked in customer support, sales, project coordination, and the automotive industry. I'm also a photographer and content creator, with experience in photography, video production, and social media.

I speak Czech and English, and I've been learning Ukrainian for a few years. I'm still improving, but I can communicate.

I'm open to different opportunities, especially in customer support, international companies, creative industries, or positions where my Czech and English language skills could be useful.

I'm also open to remote positions with Ukrainian companies.

I know the situation in Ukraine is difficult, and I'm fully aware of the challenges. But I'd genuinely love to find an opportunity to work with Ukrainian people and spend more time in Kyiv.

If anyone has suggestions, knows a company that's hiring, or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it!

Дякую всім! ❤️

Kyiv Metro patterns

Hi few months ago I sketched this pattern on one of the metro stations but I can't recall which one exactly, probably was an aeration grate and maybe it was near a door for police/guards. If you know of other cool patterns in Kyiv Metro I would love to know about them. For instance I fancy the floral tiles in khreshatyk. Thank you all.

Getting my bike back to Chisinau, Con’d.

Post image
17 Upvotes

Thanks for the help everyone. Today was a nice sunny day so I raced around, trying to align all the pieces. Walked from my hotel—the mighty ‘Ukraine Hotel’—to the train station to understand the route and tried to find an information desk, or tourist kiosk or something. Eventually I was advised—Thanks Google Translate!—to take the underpass and look for anyone in an orange jacket. I found a woman at a desk and managed to explain that “I was interested in an overnight train ticket to Chisinau, and that I would be bringing a bike.” She responded that I would need my Ukrainian passport and a note of authorization (or something like that). My Ukrainian passport?! Isn’t it obvious that I’m unavailable to speak a syllable?! Holy crow!

Having walked past a bus station just a few hundred meters before the train station I walked back there, examined bus baggage compartments (not good news) then asked at a ticket booth. Woman said, “Ask the drivers.” So I did, with the appropriate text on my phone screen. First bus rep seemed to say “F off.” His coworker was a bit more sympathetic, and took me over to… the first gal who had suggested that I ask bus crews. OK, I got the message: with that shelf welded into the storage areas, a bike that wasn’t disassembled wasn’t going to fit.

I walked back to the train station to ask about the inter-city trains that didn’t cross borders, but no orange vests were to be seen. I walked back towards Ukraine Hotel, but stuck my head in a 4-star hotel, asking about travel agencies that might be able to help me. He was a great help, saying that the tourist support industry was basically gone, but I COULD take an international train IF the ticket was booked by a Ukrainian, for me. (He used the Ukraine Rail app to tell me that availability looked good over the next few days, but he added that the app was only in Ukrainian. (Maybe I can get him to help me book an overnight ticket for this Friday tomorrow…)

Lots of detail here, but just sharing what I currently believe to be the situation. Next thing for me to do is find a bike bag or tarp and tape, so that my bike is actually allowed on the train. AI told me to visit Katay Bike, 21 Chykalenka, but they didn’t have bike bags. Then AI tried to get me to a hardware store in the maze of underground shops by Bessarabsky, but after 40 minutes still couldn’t find it. Bought bed sheets and a big roll of tape, so I’m hoping that the conductor will give me points for effort.

Anyway, that’s where things stand. I’m nervous as heck about having an “Online Ticket” for a sleeping compartment, on an app that I can’t even read. I’m nervous about finding the right track, the right car, and the right cabin.

I will pay someone to show up at the train station before boarding begins, and make sure that I don’t screw this up. I imagine that my travel day will be this Thursday or Friday. Thanks everyone!
