Hi everyone,
I have a question about bringing prescription medication from Egypt to Kuwait, and I'm hoping someone with experience or knowledge of Kuwait's customs regulations can help.
My wife needs Xolair 150 mg/ml pre-filled syringes, and she requires two injections every month.
The medication is available through the healthcare system in Kuwait, but the cost is quite high:
- Kuwait: Around 330 KD for two injections.
- With patient support: Around 270 KD for two injections.
- Egypt: Around 70–80 KD for two injections.
Alhamdulillah, we have received some financial support in Kuwait, but the price difference is still significant. Buying the medication in Egypt could save us a considerable amount over the course of a year.
My question is: if I travel to Egypt and purchase the medication legally from a pharmacy, can I bring 12–24 pre-filled syringes (enough for 6–12 months of treatment) with me in my hand luggage when returning to Kuwait?
A few important details:
- The medication is for my wife, who has a valid prescription.
- It is for personal medical use, not for resale.
- I understand that Xolair is not a prohibited medication, but I don't know whether Kuwait restricts the quantity that can be brought into the country.
- Since it is an injectable biologic medication, it also needs to be kept within the required temperature range.
Would Kuwait Customs allow this quantity with a prescription and medical report, or would I need prior approval from the Ministry of Health? Is there a specific limit on the number of injections I can bring?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has brought prescription medication into Kuwait in larger quantities or has dealt with the Ministry of Health or Kuwait Customs regarding this.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
