Rant Scooters on sidewalks

Why are people riding seated electric scooters on sidewalks when there's a dedicated bike lane right beside them? The last time I encountered one in a bike lane, he was travelling against traffic directly towards me, which seems like a fairly efficient way to make both sidewalks and bike lanes unsafe.

Discussion 2274 Princess St Apartment Hell

Thinking about moving into this “luxury” building?
I actually love the concept of this building. I just wish a company like Homestead or someone more competent had built it instead of Patry. I wish the city would stop letting Patry build these junk buildings.

Laundry list of issues:

  1. Hot Water Took Five Minutes
You had to run the tap for about five minutes just to get hot water, so good luck doing laundry in hot water or running the dishwasher on a hot cycle. The amount of water you have to waste just to take a hot shower is concerning.

  2. The Water Smelled Like Sulphur
The water smelled like sulphur, so your bathroom smelled like a fart all the time. I didn’t feel safe drinking the tap water.

  3. The Drywall Was Buckling and Cracking
Drywall screws popped out in all my rooms, and the drywall buckled and cracked. They don’t fix it, so you were just stuck with it.

  4. The Building Was Extremely Noisy
When the people above you walked, your walls shook and their foot steps sounded like they were walking with wooden shoes on. A lot of people weren’t sleeping properly because the noise was so bad. God forbid you ended up below a dog or a kid, you wouldn’t have any peace.

  5. The Plumbing Was Loud Enough to Wake You Up
When neighbours flushed the toilet or used the taps, the pipes sounded like they were about to burst through the wall. It will wake you up from a dead sleep.

  6. The Furnace Drowned Out the TV
The furnace was right beside the TV. You had to crank your TV to around volume 24 to hear it when the furnace was running. Then when it turned off, your TV was suddenly way too loud and you had to turn it down again. You can hear everyone’s tv in the hallways because you have to crank it so loud to hear it over the furnace.

  7. The Bathroom Drawers Still Banged Shut
The bathroom drawers were supposed to be soft-close, but they still banged shut. My neighbour below me complained constantly that I was waking them up at night, so I ended up taping foam inside the drawers to stop them banging if I accidentally shut one too hard.

  8. The Work Cubbies Were Freezing
The conference room was a nice add-on, but the work cubbies were absolutely freezing. You needed to bring your comforter and winter coat if you wanted to work in them. They are pretty much unusable. I never saw anyone in there the entire time I lived in this building.

  9. The Lobby Was Chaotic and Unsecured
People were constantly moving in through the front lobby, so security felt basically nonexistent. Anyone could just walk right in. The main elevator area was full of boxes and people moving their stuff. It felt ghetto and was very disruptive for the people living there. I wished they’d made people move in through the back of the building. Keep in mind there are people constantly moving in and out every weekend. Like it’s non stop turn over.

  10. The Glass Railings Were Exploding
The glass railings just randomly exploded lol. The metal frames were warping too. Looked very trashy on the roof top patio. I was pretty embarrassed when I had friends over for the first time and they pointed out how rough the hallways looked and the patio area.

  11. The Appliances Were Damaged
The appliances were marked up and damaged. So if you liked dents in your microwave and fridge, you were in luck. You’d think for a luxury building they wouldn’t buy second hand appliances or at least replace them after a tenant punches dents in it lol.

And none of this even covers all the repairs I needed inside my apartment. I basically needed a contractor coming in every month to fix something new. My new apartment is great. There’s no pool, but at least I can sleep without the trim and cabinets falling apart when I touch them. Lol

Ohh and I can wash my hands with warm water at my new place.

Recommendation Needed Local comic shops with dollar bins? Or thrift stores with comics?

I'm on the hunt for cheap comics; ideally pre-2000, but not "good" comics... more for collage / art purposes than any kind of collecting for value. I think Nexus sells "mystery bags," but I'm wondering if there are other comic shops around town with more traditional dollar bins, or thrift shops that have cheap comics in among the media stuff.

Question Old Aunt Lucy location - What's happening

Noticed that a sold sign went up at 1399 Princess (NW corner of Princess and Portsmouth) a few months ago.

Construction fencing has been placed around the whole property.

Anyone know if we're getting a new Restaurant on the site? Would be nice.

Info Parking Payment Scam Downtown Kingston

I tried to park in Downtown Kingston, Ontario, and the parking machine wouldn’t accept my payment or issue a parking ticket.

There was a barcode/QR code on the machine that said we could use it to pay for parking. I had my doubts about scanning it, but I’m a new driver and this was my first time parking and paying for a ticket completely on my own. I had also seen my friends use an app to pay for parking before, so I thought this might be something similar.

Unfortunately, I fell for it. 😭

I scanned the code, went to the website, and entered my details. But then it asked me for my card PIN. That immediately raised a huge red flag. I stopped, closed everything, and immediately blocked my card.

I’m honestly just glad I caught it before going any further.

It’s unfortunate that scams are everywhere now. You have to constantly question whether something that looks completely legitimate is actually legitimate.

If you’re parking downtown, please be careful with QR codes stuck on parking machines and make sure you’re using the official payment method. I definitely learned my lesson.

Recommendation Needed Home internet.

Last post i see is 8 months ago so hoping for current info.

Been with Teksavvy but rate just doubled to $90 a month. Internet hasn't been great either. Dropping and freezing zoom calls even when I am sitting beside the modem / router. And signal doesn't reach to the back of a 1000sq foot house.

I have both Cogeco coaxial and Cogeco and Bell fibe lines available. I work from home but just doing zoom calls and typical administrative and research type activity.

Only two of us here. No gamers. Use netflix, youtube, and regular browsing. Never more than 4 devices. Not heavy users.

Looking for suggestions and cost.
Thanks.

Jobs Job search

Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a career change but haven’t been so lucky with job applications. I have experience in service industry and want to move to sales/commission work. Does anyone know a place hiring for sales at entry level and if not any suggestions on how I can gain more experience in sales. I’ve done sales just not for very long so I’m not completely inexperienced I just need to be given a shot. I landed interviews with porter pest which was sales and another with a bell door to door company I didn’t get and another at surplus furniture

Recommendation Needed Divorce Lawyer

I’m looking for a bare bones divorce lawyer who can simply file an uncontested divorce. All we need is the stamp of approval - we’ve been separated for 12 years, all financials long ago settled. Looking for the least expensive option. Tried to file online, but a complete PITA.

Any recommendations?

Recommendation Needed Winter Wheels

So its my first car in Canada and I have never been driving in winter. I have multiple questions and am sorry i am posting here but i dont have so many friends to ask and would like multiple options.

1) first before talking about the wheels. What are the things i must buy now and be prepared or maybe next month?

2) my car is honda civic 2019 do i need to do the anti rust i think is called and if yes where and how and how much would it cost?

3) now to the wheels. I really dont want to be looking stupid when am buy my wheels 😆 yesterday i already felt i did my maintenance in a wrong location and paid almost 1000 dollars so I am running low on budget and I was wondering if we can buy used winter wheels or that is a big no? If yes where? how to know my wheels size my honda civic is LX 2019, sedan. How to know if they are good wheels. If i should buy new wheels where can i find good affordable ones.

Any advice would be great!

Thank you and i hope you enjoy your day.

Discussion Candidates that Released Donor Lists

I know someone posted about the mayoral candidates, but the request to publicize donors by around Oct 13 was posed to most candidates in most districts. With it being the 14th as I write this, I want to list every candidate that publicized their lists and give a link to each list. Please see the notes under the list to get some important, clarifying information on how I formatted this. I'm happy to update for accuracy if provided new information.

Candidates that publicized donors:
Connie Glenn - Mayoral Candidate - https://www.connyglenn.ca/finance
Vanessa Mensah - Mayoral Candidate (Click "donation disclosure" button) - https://www.vanessamensahforkingston.ca/information
Jimmy Hassan - Trillium District Incumbent (also included expenses) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/195vLr_GEEETse7ZfCLxMk9ZnKgtHvwPqjPwV0w6YlYw/edit?usp=sharing
Lisa Osanic - Collins-Bayridge Incumbent - https://lisaosanic.ca/election-date/
#Zachary Typhair - Pittsburgh# (Illness Related) - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CKmCLXFK2/
Matt McTaggart - Pittsburgh (Under "Donate" box) - https://www.mattmctaggart.ca/
Jeff McLaren - Meadowbrook-Strathcona Incumbent - https://jeffmclaren.ca/contributions.php
**Aba Mortley - King's Town*\* - https://abaforcouncil.com/donate.php
**Melissa Reid - King's Town*\* - https://www.melissamreid.ca/donors/

Candidates SELF DECLARING that they have not accepted donations at time of meeting:
Grant Bedard - Mayoral Candidate - Said he was "not campainging" and got no donations
Joel Bruce - Collins-Bayridge - A donate button is on his website, but as of the meeting he said he did not receive donations, but would be happy to publicize if he got them.
Ryan Boehme - Pittsburgh Incumbent - The donate page on the website encourages voters to donate to local charity and Ryan has claimed he takes no donations
Vic Sahai - Countryside - Clearly stated he has accepted nor received any donations and has/will returned all donations given to him. He has no donation option on his page.
Roger Dennis - Meadowbrook-Strathcona - Has said he has gotten NO donations
Stephen Cuthbertson - Lakeside - Clearly said he has not accepted and will not accept donations
Jeff Pearce - Loyalist-Cataraqui - Confirmed that he only got some help from his parents, but no donations otherwise. His website has no donate option listed.
Charanjeev Sekhon - Loyalist-Cataraqui - Confirmed he is getting no donations and is self-funded. There is no donation option listed on his website.
Dorian Hartley - Loyalist-Cataraqui - Confirmed he is getting no donations and it self-funded.

Candidates that did not (to my knowledge):
Bryan Patterson - Mayoral Candidate Incumbent - Stated he would have the "shortest answer" that night when asked and said "yes". The whig-standard reached out for comment: https://www.thewhig.com/news/paterson-opts-not-to-release-donors-list-as-kingston-mayoral-hopefuls/
#Prakash Dayal - Trillum# ("Personal Reasons") - Says he has "no donor list" and is "independant", but conflates this with being non-partisan. However, he has instructions to donate on his page and acknowledges that he must publish the list after the election. It is not clear to me that he has not gotten any donations.
Chelsea Rae - Pittsburgh - While she has stated her campaign was "grass-roots", she also said her donation list will "not be very long" which implies she may have received donations, plus she has a donate button on her site.
#Jess Scott - Countryside# (Declined to participate) - NO DONATION BUTTON ON WEBSITE
#Joseph Abreu - Countryside# (Declined to participate) - Not accepting donations online, but website does say there are other ways to contribute.
Daria Juüdi-Hope(?) - Meadowbrook-Strathcona - Donation button on website, has said she will publish with donor consent. Possibly has not yet received consent to release donors?
Wendy Stephen - Lakeside Incumbent - Stated she was not comfortable identifying donors under the threshold required by Kingston's municipal election regulations. Possibly does not have any donors at or above the minimum limit?
Paul Chaves - Loyalist-Cataraqui Incumbent - Confirmed he had gotten 2 donations of 100 and 200 respectively and that he will, as he said last election, publicize his small list. I cannot find this list at all.
**Greg Ridge - King's Town Incumbent**** - There is a donate button or clarification of if he is taking donations or not, BUT he has an acknowledgement of an end-of election declaration

Acclaimed Councillors - No Contest:
Councillor Amos (Portsmouth) was acclaimed, but he has a donate button on his website.
Councillor Cinanni (Williamsville) was acclaimed, but he has a donate button on his website.

Candidates not asked to publish their donor list (Sydenham & Kingscourt-Rideau)\*:*
Andrew DaCosta - Sydenham - No Donors - Clearly stated on his website he will not accept donations (except from direct family) and has no listed options to donate.
Rajesh Kumar - Sydenham - Not declared & no list - There is a donate button but no clarification of if he is taking donations, BUT he has an acknowledgement of an end-of-election declaration.
John Meligrana  Sydenham - Not declared & no list - There is donation information. No clarification of if he is taking donations, nor acknowledgement of an end-of-election declaration
Annie Palone - Sydenham - Not declared & no list - There is a donate button but no clarification of if she is taking donations, BUT he has an acknowledgement of an end-of-election declaration.
Micheal Judd - Kingscourt-Rideau - Published List - https://www.michaeljudd4u.ca/contacts-supportsigns
Brandon Tozzo - Kingscourt-Rideau Incumbent - Not declared & no list - There is a donate button but no clarification of if he is taking donations and no acknowledgement of end-of-election declaration.
Kevin Smith - Kingscourt-Rideau - Not declared & no list - There is NO donate button and no clarification of if he is taking donations.

Note 1: This list is the the best of my knowledge and according to what I could find online in meeting recordings, candidate websites, and candidate social media pages. If I got anything incorrect, missed anything, or any link, statement, or categor placement becomes inaccurate at a later date, please inform me and I will update accordingly.

Note 2: As of now, I am not aware of a public recording of the King's Town and Loyalist-Cataraqui district meetings being available online. while this means they were not asked directly, they may have seen the discussion about publicisng their donors online or in other meetings. All candidates who did not post their list that did not attend their meeting are marked with #hastags# and include a reason if and as stated. All Candidates whose meetings are not yet public on YT will be noted via **double stars**, so keep that in mind. If the meeting ever becomes public somewhere, I will check it out and update the list accordingly.

Question Looking for Friends in the Leeds and Grenville Area.

Hello,

I'm a 30s M looking to make friends in the Leeds and Grenville area.

I'm posting this here because the specific thread for my region is a complete ghost town, so hopefully it is allowed. I apologize for any formatting errors; I've never made a post, and only ever lurked.

I have physical limitations, and prefer to have the option to be seated. I really enjoy gaming, card and board games, music, reading, eating good food (a little too much lol) I also enjoy watching and reading true crime, discussion on current events, road trips (though I don't drive) and going for walks in nice weather with good company.

Is there anyone in the area who is also sort of in the same boat? If you're not a big drinker, where are people our age suppose to meet and socialize? If any of this resonates with you, feel free to DM me. Life gets really, really lonely, and it would be nice to change tha.

Question Vanessa Mensa

I am still struggling with Vanessa’s affiliation with Prepare the Way Ministries and I would appreciate clarification of what she means when she says she has no affiliation with Prepare the Way Ministries.

Her canvassing post on Facebook pictured with Anna Rider and Joanne Bell, says: “One of my favourite parts of canvassing is hanging out with my besties.”

Prepare the Way’s own website identifies Anna Rider as an Apostolic Prophetic Council member and Joanne Bell as a speaker at its 2025 summit. Both also appear on Vanessa’s campaign donor disclosure.

Friendship and campaign support do not establish formal membership or agreement with every ministry teaching. But these are relevant connections.

A clear answer would help voters assess this fairly.

Recommendation Needed Do wall-mounted ironing boards still exist?

Hiii: delete if not allowed, but after looking online at Canadian Tire, Jysk and Home Depot in our city , I cannot find anywhere that sells something like this.

I like to optimize my space and could use a new ironing board so I thought just having a wall mounted one would be great… can’t seem to find them anywhere!

If there’s a good store or maybe a DIY alternative that anyone knows about, I would love to know. I prefer to buy from somewhere close by and not order online :)

TIA!

Question Campaign donations disclosures for Mayor candidates

At the Spire's Mayor's debate, all candidates agreed to disclose their campaign contributions by October 12th by putting it up on their websites. Conny Glenn & Venessa Mensah have disclosed but I could not find the list for Bryan Patterson. Has anyone else found his information?
