Immigration-emigration/Köşu-qonu
Думаете я могу just try it out? How different is current Kasachstan to your childhood if your gen z 🙆♀️

3
u/Ameriggio Karaganda Region 1d ago

I think that moving here is a bit radical but definitely do visit! I think even 2-3 weeks would let you experience how and what has changed

u/dar_moi 1d ago
Pls don’t believe eastern news abt Europe to much. I get to see both sides bc my parents are usually watching those due to the language barrier / or they are so used to it. And yes of course we have our issues the whole word has it but really it is not that bad !

u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago
3
u/Holiday_Cheetah5265 1d ago
2
u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago
1
u/Holiday_Cheetah5265 1d ago
1
u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago
1
u/Holiday_Cheetah5265 1d ago
1
u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago

u/Nomad-2020 Almaty 1d ago

u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago
2
u/dar_moi 1d ago
Im currently hereeeeee not too big of a fan tbh
1
u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago
Why? Expensive?
1
u/dar_moi 1d ago
No they have a tonnnnn of really silly small rules I guess I just lived in BKK for a while and used to a more mepalai so laid back and chill atmosphere where as here it’s all abt the face how you present yourself don’t get me wrong beautiful country lovely ppl but I wish for them to be a bit more open cuz their situation is not the best you kinda sense it too
1
u/Sufficient-View-7218 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes, I understand, if you are young, then small rules are annoying, but the economic component and access to finances can be very stressful, especially when you are looking for a job and cannot afford to live separately from your family. When there is nothing of your own, and the older generation got real estate and work and you have to compete with them. This applies to all countries of the former USSR, where financial assets have not been honestly distributed

u/Such_Candidate_3415 1d ago

u/Such_Candidate_3415 1d ago
1
u/Sufficient-View-7218 16h ago
1
u/Such_Candidate_3415 16h ago
1
u/Such_Candidate_3415 1d ago

Hi, tl;dr: yeah, worth a try, why not? Maybe even a couple of cities and a village for a change.
I left Shymkent as a teenager, lived in the UK for a bit, then China. About 14 years abroad in total, and this year I finally came back for a short-term work project. Bit of a reverse culture shock: some things are good, others not so much. It’s been great reconnecting with my roots and culture, though as an adult I wouldn’t stay long-term (I’m moving either to Germany or Singapore after this). Still, a wonderful experience all things considered.
Almaty is great for hiking and nature. I spent every weekend this summer on new trails, day hikes and overnight camping too. Basic food like meat and veggies is good, if a bit bland sometimes. Traffic’s terrible. People are okay. The work culture and lack of common sense here are frustrating, but that’s just my take. A lot of people here are multilingual and welcoming to foreigners, maybe even more so to people rediscovering their homeland.
Then a few months living in countryside were great, quiet peaceful and just at the foot of the mountain.
Astana's just not my thing. Although i hear people who moved there from the south seem to be pretty comfortable.
Hope this helps! Happy to answer any questions

And whos fault is that? Go make some event. Do hobby meetups. Attend cosplay conventions. Take part in marathons. Go draw paintings with the club in the Botanic garden. Get a bike and join the telegram group that does weekly rides along the 26km bikeroad. Go hiking with the bouldering team that do private bus trips every two weeks (10-20k/trip). Hang out with guitar guys near the river in the evening. Join the free DnD oneshots with random people. Attend conferences. Do photohunts.
I don't like telling people that something is a "skill issue", BUT DAMN.
DO NOT SIT AROUND AND WAIT FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO ENTERTAIN YOU.
SOCIAL GROUPS ARE MADE OF PEOPLE.
GO SEE PEOPLE
Germany is literally the same. Got a gym membership and made 20+ random connections there. The dudes are nice and we hangout outside of gym sometimes. I did a talk on a free Rust local meetup and made some friends there, that now ride me on their car to other city conferences. I went to a local Hackerspace and got in touch with some ancient dudes with arcane knowledge. And MOST of people here, didn't even know about stuff going on in the city. so yes, ITS AN ACTUAL SKILL. GO MAKE SOME FRIENDS

If you're working remotely and have Kazakhstani citizenship, it can be really lucrative since taxes are only 4%. Most of the friends I studied and worked with actually moved back for this reason. Surprisingly, I save even more money here because rent is so much cheaper.
1
u/These_Ranger8974 1d ago
same bro, where do you live? my tax rate is 2%, cause I moved to a small city to save on rent and taxes (work is online)
1
u/Pleasant_Cup4554 17h ago
I moved to Astana a few months ago. The rent here is quite affordable at around 400 per month for a onebedroom apartment, compared to London, easily costs over 2k. I often see comments advising against moving here, but I think those people aren't familiar with what working life is like in Western Europe. While student life there is great if you have minimal requirements and just want places to hang out, settling down as a working professional is much more difficult.

u/therubberman 1d ago
Of course come and travel here. But Astana could be a little bit boring. It’s clean and nice to live in, but it is a “working” city not a party city. It also gets extremely cold, and it’s not that big so you can visit all main landmarks in 2-3 days. If you enjoy small towns and nature I highly recommend visiting different regions which are Northern Kazakhstan (Kokshetau/Burabay), Western KZ (Aktau/Oral/Atyrau), and Southern KZ (Turkestan/Shymkent). Also East with Oskemen. Definitely visit Almaty for the mountains and to experience our cultural capital.
1
u/therubberman 1d ago
As for your question on how different it is: contrary to most comments here I feel like things have only gotten better.. I’m from a small town in the north and infrastructure is slowly but surely getting better, Astana is also finally getting so much development that it’s becoming more comfy to live in (but like I said maybe a bit boring for a tourist). I live abroad most of the year and when I come back to Astana for a month or two I don’t get this huge shock from the difference in infrastructure anymore.
For the downsides, people can be cold or harsh at first but I get used to it after a week or so- many here have a very direct style of communication. But I’ve heard the same about Germans actually )

despite all the stuff that was said earlier in the comments. astana can also be a quite a lonely place, cause people are not that open. but i believe, after germany you will be ready for it
anyway, give it a try! there are lot of genz (like me😂) who are fun and outgoing
and plan trips around kazakhstan! the nature is extraordinary ✨

I am Turkish used to live in Astana. Astana does not have anything good (weather minus, nature extra minus) I would prefer Almaty if i need to live in Kazakhstan. If you do not have to live in Kazakhstan, as I am Turkic i would choose Tashkent. If I have opportunity to work remotely I would definitely choose Vietnam or Malaysia( life is much more cheaper people are calm and friendly)

Everybody is missing his Birthcountry? Also I believe after Covid we are just able to work abroad way easier then before

Maybe everyone really misses their home country. But I don’t think that should be a major reason for moving. I feel a connection to Russia, but I’m not moving back for obvious reasons

Well I’m not planning to settle maybe it was my fault in wordings but I have the possibility to a least life there for 6 months and if everything goes bad still to go home ( also I work for euros so I think I will not struggle to much in that regard & still have my apartment in Germany )
