DISCUSSION Chiefs beat reporter follows White Supremacists Page
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
"Blutstamm" is the German translation for
"Blood Tribe," an American neo-Nazi and white supremacist group.
Edit: Saw this on Twitter and wanted to bring it here. He unfollowed and hasn’t commented on it. Let’s see what he says before coming to his defense or making any outright accusations

If that’s the only account like that he follows it’s possible the account has changed/been sold from whatever it originally was. I’ve definitely misclicked and followed accounts by mistake.
And frankly you should have more proof than this already provided (he follows other similar accounts, he’s interacted with them positively) if you’re going to try this.

I know Pete personally, he is 100% not a white supremacist. I texted him and he is distraught right now.
13
u/Jimothy_Riggins 2h ago
I’ll just add that I’ve followed accounts on X/Twitter and out of the blue, the account changes to something drastically different. Not sure if it is now, but it used to be somewhat common for people with a large number of followers to get offers from people wanting to buy their Twitter account.

u/upvotechemistry Arrowhead 3h ago
What people follow on socials is not a good test of who they are. I follow all kinds of pages I hate just to troll. I follow stuff just to keep tha algorithm from putting me in a bubble
54
u/Thornediscount 3h ago
This was most likely an accidental misclick.
46
u/chiefsfan_713_08 2h ago
someone could’ve changed their account name too, i’ve had meme accounts or others suddenly be weird things

u/original_manatee 1h ago
Same thing happened to my guy Mevis from the Rams. He was following a ton of motivational speakers and Sunday school teaching pages that all of a sudden switched to being horny, I know he didn’t mean it 🙏
6
u/ProperGroping Arrowhead 2h ago
No no no no he's a white supremacist its confirmed we've seen the receipts!!! CANCEL HIMMMMMM REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
9
u/BabyLegsDeadpool 2h ago
Back in the day, I used to just follow anyone that followed me. It's one of the reasons I had 50k followers. I didn't look at anyone's profile; I just did it respectfully. If something weird or gross popped up in my feed, I would check if I was following someone. I used to do a lot of political arguing, so I had a lot of hate followers. I probably followed dozens of white supremacists just for reciprocating their follow. I'm about as far from a white supremacist as one can get.
17
u/No_Size919 3h ago
Reddit is so fking lame for this type of stuff. I see it across so many different subreddits.
3
u/ClownDiaper Travis Kelce #87 1h ago
Not to mention a reporter of any kind may follow a number of pages solely to stay informed about their activities.

u/Tamashii-Azul 2h ago
The vast majority of people don't follow pages just to troll—a troll is who you are.
15
u/Smokeydubbs 2h ago
I’ve read and listened to him for years, knew this was a nothing burger as soon as I saw it
36
u/ProperGroping Arrowhead 2h ago
Tell him he's getting flamed on reddit by basement dwellers and has nothing real to worry about.
3
u/originalusername4567 K-9 Unit 🐺 2h ago
Probably the best thing he can do is quickly unfollow and move on. I doubt anyone outside of the this Reddit thread will ever notice.
1
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 1h ago
Someone tweeted it; this video on this post came from Twitter. So people do know about it outside of this lol
But yeah, I don’t think addrsssing it does much. People that already assume the worst of him won’t suddenly feel fine with an apology. They’ll just say he’s lying or sorry he got caught.
5
u/Vyuvarax Human Detected 2h ago edited 2h ago
Lol yeah. I know of Chiefs fan accounts who are 100% white supremacists. Pete is not anywhere close to one lol.

Shouldn’t necessarily jump to conclusions.

u/ReedPhillips The Nigerian Nightmare #35 3m ago
Which is exactly what OP and anyone with less than ½ a working brain on social media do. 🤷♂️ I wish society wasn't like this but here we are.
31
u/Hans_Krebs_ Bears 3h ago
How does someone even notice this?
10
u/chiefsphan97 3h ago
They either stalked who he was following or they were on that page & saw he followed them
4
80
u/Juelicks Mike Pennel #69 3h ago
That's lame. Hopefully it was a misclick, or he followed them without realizing who they are.
76
u/BlueCoUltra 3h ago
Yup. Every couple weeks or so, I notice that I'm subscribed to a YouTube channel I never intended to subscribe to. Probably just happens due to a mis click or clicking on some channel add. Super easy to mis click something on these social media apps, so who knows
36
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 3h ago
And even without a misclick, accounts can completely change their names, pictures, etc. So it could’ve been a totally different account when he followed
11
u/Casul_Tryhard Jamaal Charles 3h ago
Yeah, I was somehow subscribed to TPUSA and The Daily Wire...hope this is the same case here
3
u/valinkrai 3h ago
Its a bitch to remove them too. I had to clean out a few from my libertarian phase and it was annoying. I also had a few recently I assume were misclicks from shorts.

u/traws06 3h ago
Or he follows them to see news from opposing views. There was a time when our political culture didn’t demand censorship from seeing news outside of our own echo chamber
I live in the Bible Belt as a liberal. It amazes me how sheltered most Redditors are from the way conservatives really think. It’s a problem because there are ways to try and convince them of better ways but we would rather be antagonistic and condescending which just pushes them further away
1
u/johnvarley1 2h ago
We don’t want to treat other adults like giant babies. They’re stupid and that’s on them. Pretty simple.

Kind of echoing the majority opinion because it's mine as well: we need more evidence than Pete following one white supremacist account to cancel him. If he interacts with that account or others, then yeah you've got a case.

7
u/The_amazing_T Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 3h ago
People are getting canceled for a follow now? I'm so out of the loop with Social Media. But feels like a follow isn't a big enough reason to trash somebody.

u/Dear_Maintenance7323 Derrick Johnson 3h ago
Do you know how many times I was wondering why I was seeing a tweet, and I click on the profile and I’m following them. With absolutely zero recollection of ever interacting with them or even seeing that account. It’s very easy to fat finger a button on your phone. This is a nothing burger
7
60
u/ChiliDogs_Revenge 3h ago
This is really dumb for a multitude of reasons. Shame on OP for trying to stir shit over a social media follow with zero additional rigor.
People change twitter handles freely and often and for all we know this account could have been "Bob Smith" two years ago when they got the follow.
What I can say with absolute certainty is that Pete has never appeared to be anything but a solid dude that likes the Chiefs. I cannot fathom what would motivate this sort of witch hunt. Look in the mirror and get counseling OP
18
5
u/Corrosivecoral 2h ago
Also people accidentally hit follow or subscribe all the time, or at least I do on accident.
5
u/MOSSxMAN 2h ago
I once followed a college basketball player like 10 years ago. One day I logged back on Twitter and was following this conspiracy page that posted like 45+ times a day about Mossad being in America doing operations.
Yeah…. Same account. Dude went off the deep end post graduation I guess.
1
u/txchiefsfan02 Joe Delaney #37 2h ago
Pretty sure I followed the same player, who was a huge mental health advocate once upon a time, too.

u/Drockosaurus Nick Bolton #32 3h ago
I came to say the same thing. People just love to be outraged so I’m not surprised.

“Hey it’s weird you like white supremacy pages”
“Why are you on a witch hunt”
Be real
8
u/gutterbirds (knee, jail) 1h ago
Twitter accounts with lots of followers are bought everyday by bad actors and turned into pages like that one.
Pete is not a white supremacist. Likely, it’s an account he followed years ago that got sold and turned into a scum-of-the-Earth circlejerk feed

Maybe his account just auto-follows back anyone that follows him. The neo Nazis followed him and he unfortunately started following them back because of that? I dunno I’m not on that shit neo Nazi platform

u/Anteater776 Andrew Wylie #77 3h ago edited 2h ago
Yikes.
Never cared much for his reporting but that’s neither here or there. Even if he was a great reporter that would be disqualifying
Edit: others in this thread seem to find it hard to believe he followed the account on purpose. I’d be willing to give him the benefit of doubt for now
6
u/Nathann4288 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 2h ago
I follow pages of people I deeply disagree with. I want to know what they are saying, even though I disagree. It’s good to know the enemy.

I've accidentally followed random shit before. Idk, maybe he thought they were a metal group or something. Unless there's something more substantial that indicates a pattern, I'm not taking it seriously

u/sticher1 2h ago
My first thought is he is a reporter. Possibly could he be subscribed in order to report? Idk my thought never went to this guy whom I don’t know of is a neo nazi or whatever
2
u/ReebX1 1h ago
He probably followed back a bot account long ago, then one day it changed. That crap happens a lot on Twitter, since musk seems to be down with all the Russian bot accounts as long as they pay him money for the blue checkmarks.
I don't really care for Pete Sweeney myself, but one account doesn't mean anything. Everyone gets got by the bot switcheroos eventually.
4
u/unity2178 3h ago
Accounts get hacked/sold. Instagram accounts can be changed at any time. I have acquaintances who've changed a lot in the last few years and I don't keep up on everyone's pages, so wouldn't have a clue. This is entirely meaningless. If he had a pattern of behavior that was suspect, then this might have meaning, but he doesn't.
2
u/BigBadBushBushranger Will Shields 3h ago
This would show up in his feed though, right? I feel like if all of a sudden a ridiculous white supremacist account started showing up in my feed, I’d unfollow them.
That said, the internet is a stupid and weird place. I don’t immediately assume he’s a white supremacist over something like this.
2
u/unity2178 3h ago
My feed is all kinds of random accounts and I don't interact with anything, it's just a messaging platform for me at this point.
2
u/BillNyeTheEngineer 2h ago
Pete follows 1700 accounts. I’m sure he doesn’t use his twitter account the same way regular people do too.
4
3
u/RCJHGBR9989 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 1h ago
If you look up the account it has 1 username change - it’s likely a compromised account that used to be something else. Doubt this is what he originally followed.
5
u/PlzLearn 3h ago
Man this feels like some sort of witch hunt, obviously you don’t know every detail about someone, but Pete has always been a standup guy.

People who have nothing better to do than just find the strangest ways to ruin someone like are truly awful. You cannot possibly think that he genuinely followed this account.
4
u/J_EDi 3h ago
Making a social media post about it seems kind of accusatory regardless of your edit. We all know how quickly people are guilty before innocent when it comes to social media
2
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 3h ago
Lol right “let’s not assume either way!” After being the one to draw attention to it on this sub lmfao.
Why post it if you are saying people shouldn’t make comments from either side? What are we supposed to say then?
3
u/Careless_Working_898 2h ago
Can we limit the scope of “cancelling” people to things they actually said or did? I’m not gonna condemn anybody over something they followed or clicked on social media, especially when it’s so damn easy to do that without realizing it.
It took me about 10 years to discover I was “following” Fox News on YouTube. I couldn’t figure out why their shitty videos kept being recommend to me. One day - I finally got the motivation to find out why. Apparently, I accidentally hit “subscribe” at some point over the last decade.
I don’t intentionally follow any channels on social media, but misclicks happen. It’s also not unheard of for profiles to get hijacked and have their content change overnight. All this to say - stop these fucking witch-hunts. It’s not helping society and you’re not making the world a better place.

2
u/random8765309 3h ago
Ee really don't have any idea of why he is following them. Could be anything from a miss-click to him researching for a story.
2
u/rusty_shackleford34 DeAndre Hopkins #8 2h ago
Maybe he intentionally followed it. But I know personally I’ve accidentally followed many things on INSTA, saw a post and wondered how in the world that happened.
2
u/Crafty-Western6161 Grim Reaper 3h ago
Social media is intentionally following people to very bad accounts without their knowledge or consent. This could be one of those times

First of all, who has the time and interest level needed to pay attention to this kind of shit and keep tabs on what pages people follow?
Secondly, consider that a journalist has a legitimate professional interest in following a variety of different sources before jumping to conclusions and trying to ruin their career.

Damn look some the comments in here u can forget that u are most likely surrounded by nazi apologists
People saying misclick lol not once has my feed been filled with pages like this to “misclick” on
And on Twitter(at least on mobile) u have to actively view someone’s page to follow them
2
u/Dear_Maintenance7323 Derrick Johnson 3h ago
That last part is absolutely not true. You can just have to click on a tweet and a follow button is in the top right
1
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 3h ago
And also accounts change all the time. Could’ve been a normal account that gained followers and then changed names, etc.
-4
u/goatmane224 🍽️EGE🍽️ 3h ago
Why would u click a tweet and view a tweet from a nazi group??
1
u/Dear_Maintenance7323 Derrick Johnson 3h ago
The page could’ve been something else in the past. Or, and idk what to tell you cuz I know you won’t believe this, you can fat finger a couple times in a row and not realize you’ve followed someone. It’s happened to me more than once. I mean come tf on, do we seriously think he’s a white supremacist? Get a grip on reality folks
2
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 3h ago
Yeah the account has 33k followers. My guess is it was something else to gain and then it changed. And yes the account was created only 10 months ago but that can absolutely happen that quickly lol.

Nearly every annoying change on Arrowhead Pride has been SBNation or whatever they are called now’s doing. All those fan sites have been affected

u/thrashinbatman Chris Jones #95 1h ago
Im definitely inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt because nothing he's said or done up to this point suggests he's even close to this ideology. That being said, I do think, absent of any other evidence, it isn't unreasonable to raise a few eyebrows and ask him why he's following an explicit Nazi account. Given we know now he doesnt know how it happened and is upset, I think we can just let it end there.

Pete has the personality and mannerisms of a liberal guy who lives in Brookside. Call me crazy, but I highly doubt he’s a white supremacist.
