Mr. Phelps, it's awesome that you stood proud and deserve all the upvotes and more, but Mrs Phelps is a fucking 1 in a trillion! No matter who is the hero in this story, it's amazing that you both found one another!

Yoooo bro you didn't hit her with the "ok, if you were a pirate, would you keep your parrot on this shoulder ....puts arm around her ...or THIS shoulder?"
I used that on the first date with my gal 10 years ago, only time I've tried it.....100% success rate so far, 1/1 was all I needed!

i think it's cool to ask women for permission before touching them, tbh

Clear, open, honest communication is one of the bedrocks of a healthy relationship. The idea that a relationship should begin with a bunch of guesswork and "oh god I hope I didn't misunderstand" is such a bunch of bullshit. I don't want to try and be a goddamned mind reader. It makes life so much easier to just ask. On my first date with my now-wife, when the moment felt right I just asked if I could kiss her. It's something she still talks about when it's relevant because, for her, it was such an immediate green flag of "oh hey this dude is safe to be around" and it's part of why she decided she wanted to keep seeing me.

My feelings exactly.
Get consent from all people before you initiate intimate touch.

Yes! 👏 it shows he cares “would you like?” There’s no better way to show you care about someone than those words

This wasn’t awkward at all and the fact you think it is after all those years is breaking my heart.
You were two highschool kids. You didn’t knew what you wanted or it felt or anything.
Every high school kid is awkward.
Consent is cool

I was told at work today, that Columbus Day is the day we celebrate the discovery of Latinas.
I'm cool with that 🎉

I loved that he asked! I would have said YES!

Right? I believe, it was for the better in the long run, showed that the man can take a "No".

I think the fact that he asked made him smooth imo. It takes courage to open your mouth and ask questions & permission

I legit thought this story was gonna take a dark turn of him being in a wheelchair.

u/CartsOfDarkness 2d ago
Well damn bro, what's wrong with being in a wheelchair? Would that have seriously been a jumpscare for you at the end if it panned out to him in a wheelchair lol

The metal wheels, the handles, and the....s-s-s-SEAT?!
Wheel chairs give me real scares.

I bet you were like me and she gave you a thousand super obvious hints that she like you and then finally decided to just flat out ask you on a date. This story put smile on my face, thanks for sharing.

That made my cold heart melt & tear up. They are so rich Edit: went back & paused pics, 4 beautiful children and one grandbaby

As awkward as he may have felt, I think the fact that he asked for consent is what checked a box for her, and then the honesty sealed the deal.

Thats a super wholesome story and it made me smile. Thanks for not dragging it out for 9 seasons.

It’s lovely that his instinct was to ask before putting his arm around her! Not embarrassing in the slightest. I would have giggled and kicked my feet thinking about that moment later ngl.

I kept waiting for the punchline… like, “then she never talked to me again.” Glad to see I was wrong!

When you’re young you share hopes and dreams and your partner listens. Most of them support you.
When you’re 30 youre a weirdo. Why are you living with your mom? Why don’t you own property? Get out you magic the gathering neck beard

Did…
Did I just see what peak social media scrolling looks like?
Was that the perfect blend of tv shows and social media?
