Guide 82% WR To Master While Learning Jungle - Some Tips

Post image
222 Upvotes

My opgg

Before I go deeper into anything, I need to make it clear that I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to jungle (since I'm a chall mid main), there are still areas where I can improve a lot, but I think reaching Master with a pretty nice win rate is a solid achievement. Even though I've only now reached master, I've been playing in Master lobbies for the past 30 games and only encountered a challenger player once. Average elo in most games is around 800lp master. I'll give you some tips on what I've noticed made me win/lose my games.

  • Learn how to full clear

It is not even funny how poorly people clear, even in purple elo. I don't think people understand how broken practice tool is for junglers. You have the luxury of being able to practice your first full clear until you are happy with how you clear. In other words, you are training for something practical that you can actually use in your games, whereas laners can't do that. Laners can't go into practice tool and learn how to trade, space, jungle track, track enemy supp etc. Go in practice tool and make sure you can get good times. Use websites like dpm to see the average times other people get on the champion you are playing and try to mimic it. Find one tricks or really good players on your champions and watch them clear. Learn how many basic attacks they do on each camp, at which hp threshold do they start moving to other camp, are they pulling the next camp while still finishing the first one etc. I've personally written down in notepad tips on Elise Talon and Qiyana on how to full clear by watching people like Agurin (Elise), Kaostanza (Talon) and some random challenger Qiyana players on youtube.

  • Do not use chat/mute pings

Very simple, do not use chat. There is nothing useful your team can tell you that they can't say with pings. The only thing having chat on will do to you is tempt you to flame them back, since remember, if your team makes a mistake, it is your fault (sarcasm obviously). Be prepared to take the blame for the mistakes your team is making and just move on. If they start being annoying with pings, just mute them.

  • Invading

Many people struggle with responding to being invaded by the enemy jungler. I need to make it clear that invading on the first full clear is the biggest flip there is. Play for consistency, which means just full clear every game. Jungle matchups imo comes down to 2 things, knowing if you win the 1v1 on scuttle and how the enemy junglers wants to clear. If you are playing vs Graves/Nida/Kindred/Shaco, you can expect them to invade you. The thing you want to do vs these junglers is ward your blue and start on Red side. This will make it so that if they go for lvl 2 invade (raptors/red into invade on your Blue) you will know it and you can respond by invading their blue buff. If you are done with your 3rd camp and you don't see enemy jungler on your Blue ward, chances are they won't invade you. If they for some reason do, ping your laners to come help you and if they don't, give it and go steal enemy camps if you have prio in lanes.

  • Path to bot lane

Whenever possible, always path to bot. Firstly, you will be pathing into dragon, which is the best objective to stack if the game goes long. Secondly, you are pathing into 2 people as opposed to top which is just one person. This means that you have twice the amount of potential gold and xp from kills, but also, most adc players have quite a fragile ego and will not respect you ganking them and will start flaming everyone if something goes bad for them. Thirdly, winning bot most of the time is way better than having a winning top, since your adc will often times outdps your top laner if they are ahead, and if your support is ahead, they will be able to follow you more around the map applying pressure and warding enemy jungle.

Now I'll go over some mistakes that I've done on my climb that were holding me back.

  • Be very cautious of starting raptors

Raptor start is amazing for some junglers, since you can sync your camps very well, however, people most of the time will ward the raptor camp, since it provides you with a lot of info on the enemy jungler. If you see enemy on raptor camp with 8cs, that means they will path into blue buff side next or invade. If you see them there with 12cs, you know that they've done the blue buff side and are now onto their next quadrant. The most important thing is the timer that you get once the enemy kills the raptor camp. If you start raptors, you will have roughly 20-25s after the scuttle until your raptors respawn. This means that after doing scuttle, you can either ward enemy raptors if you didn't have a ward before, gank mid, base or run straight to raptors. If you decide to gank top/bot depending on which team you are on, enemy jungler WILL take your raptors. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten ahead by simply stealing enemy camps when I know their camps are up and I see them overextending on the opposite side of the map. Earlier on my journey, I would often start raptors and do too much after scuttler, be late to raptors and by the time I got to them, enemy jungler already took it.

  • Tempo

There are a lot of definitions on what tempo is, the easiest one I think is that it's the way you use your time as a jungler. This means how quickly you clear your camps and how efficiently you use the down time while your camps are respawning. Think of jungle as a turn based game. After your full clear, you have one move to make, and after that, it's gone, since you have to base and go do your camps. If you try to do multiple things, you will be punished, since the enemy jungler will steal your camps. Always try to be on your camps the second it spawns.

  • Win con

Learn how to play around your win condition. This means that if you were pathing to bot and you got them fed, your top is weaksided. If they start pinging you a lot for help, you might feel pressured to gank them. But you have to think about it. Say it's Yone vs Darius and your Yone is 0/3 and Darius has more items than him. There is simply no world in which you can go there and kill the Darius, unless you see that Darius has no sums/hp/team around him. Because imagine that instead of full clearing, you go help top and enemy jungle/supp is there and you both die. Not only is your tempo now ruined, but you also got the Darius even further ahead and the enemy jungler will get to steal your camps. Every once in a while press tab to see who in your team is doing well and stick to them. If you see your fed Ahri is in side and you are done with your clear, hover her and be a human ward for her in case someone comes for her. If they do, you can kill them, since the laner you are hovering is strong.

  • Objectives

In general, focus on getting dragons. Grubs are fine to get, but I mainly value them if I have a champion in the team who can use them well. Having grubs if you have Akali top is not the same as if you had Jax top. Herald is very good, but try using it more for fights, since it's broken. It can help you escape, but also cc enemies. If you want to use it for towers, consider using it either when you can get 2 towers with it or in the side lane. T2 in top/bot is far more valuable than T2 on mid. T1 mid however is the best thing to get early since it opens up the map for you and allows you to play more agro in enemy jungle. Baron is without a doubt the easiest objective to completely throw the game. Go for baron if you get a pick in mid game and you have decent vision of enemy team. If they try to contest, turn on them. Try not to flip an objective like Baron, since the value it has is insane. In case your team doesn't come to baron when you ping them, it is what it is, just back off, invade enemy camps, hover your team, push sides w/e. But just don't start flaming them for not coming.

  • Mental

I'd say this is one thing that a lot of people struggle with. You need to have a good mental. Do not overly ping your team if stuff goes wrong. Don't insult them when they do something dumb. Whenever I feel like I'm playing with boosted animals, I just think back to the quote that I've heard:
Don't blame people for disappointing you, blame yourself for expecting too much. Understand that you are the only player in the game who you can control fully, this includes your in game control, but also your emotions. You can't control your 0/10 Yasuo to not int more, you just can't, even if you're faker. If you feel very tilted after a game, stop playing and do something else for a bit. Talk to someone, go to the gym, go for a walk, play another game, hang out with your partner, go eat something, watch a tv show, legit anything other than playing league. Last thing you want to do to yourself is letting your emotions from previous game effect you in your next game.

Hope some of this will be useful to you guys and sorry for the long text. There's so much more that I could type, but I don't want to make it even longer. If you have any other questions about anything, feel free to ask. My next goal is challenger. Good luck on the rift!

I reached gold 1 with a 73% win rate on talon jungle life was so freaking good and then I just kept failing one game off plat 4 over and over and over and over and over. It was so freaking tilting it was like every time I got a pick somebody on my team overextended and died so I couldn't do anything with it. Its like when you get to a part in a video game with a massive difficulty spike I have no clue what happened.

I started asking myself how to use my ult more efficiently, how I could invade more aggressively. I witnessed some things in this climb that have left me scarred. Talon is not that strong early and he has basically no gank setup only damage. But he has one tool and that's tempo you just have to abuse it.

But holy shit it was hard. Midlaners recalling on enemy raptor spawn, dying next to a Tahm kench that has ult. Watching your team run mid into nocturne ult and morganas throwing her q and missing before your slow is applied. Sometimes I felt like all I do is farm and Im up 40 cs look at the scoreboard and all my teammates are getting fucked despite me pinging the whole game.

Biggest thing for me was turning off chat, getting flamed by a gold player as a diamond player(2.5 years ago mid lane) was freaking infuriating. What made me even more mad was that I was stuck with these damn bastards. However I am free, I am finally at some serious Elo.

TO EMERALD WE GO!

Discussion Laners who greed waves when you have a window for free dragon (especially SOUL)

Kind of a vent post..

Last night my main got banned so I picked amumu. I was actually playing great for a champ I don't really know, albeit an easy one. I think it was 20 minutes before I missed my first Q and was something like 10/2. We had a hard losing botlane, like 3/17 ADC. A losing mid, and a slightly winning top lane.

Their nunu jungle got pretty fed. Somehow we managed to pull off getting 3 drakes but I had no idea how we'd get the 4th for infernal soul being so far behind. It's like 20 seconds to spawn and we'd won a fight like 4 minutes ago so the game is looking decent now, eveyrone is back on the map. The nunu gets caught out mid. I Q him and a couple of my team mates are there. He'll get away unless I ult so I do. We kill him and now have 4v5 with our soul drake spawning in like 10 seconds, and 4 of us are right in the middle of mid right next to it, with one in base.

my top and mid go to top lane and taking enemy camps, showing on vision they aren't at the drake even though we're all right there and I'm spam pinging it. me and the 3/17 ADC go. The 20 kill draven and his supp come, kill us both and take the dragon while my top laner is farming a wave.

Like wtf...we were starting to come back and the soul probably wins us the game. It's not like we had an open map. 4 of them are still up and they're all fed. We could've had the free dragon, but I swear laners think if the enemy jungler is dead we're just guaranteed to get it and they don't need to spend 20 seconds hitting it with me. Just because they have no smite doesn't mean they can't simply kill me before it's low enough. We were never gunna win a 5v5 to contest this and obviously they won't just give us soul. We got SO lucky that the nunu inted but threw it away for a wave

Build is lethality. Specifically with Serpent's Fang and LDR to deal with this Sett who was split pushing all game. Obviously Sett hadn't built up proper armor yet, but this kind of shocked even me when I did it lol.

Discussion Full clear vs Super Clear vs 4 camp Clear?

I wanted to start a discussion on your thoughts between the 3 clear archetypes. What's your most prefered jg clearing pathing? Why?

4-camp clear, making sure you start on the same side as your opponent, but end on opposite sides. Extreme farm-centric and low interactivity. Super clear but modified
Super Clear - Essentially forces you to return to your starting 2 camps in exchange for faster farming.
Full Clear, standard jungle pathing

Question What are the best junglers to counter ranged ap poke?

What do you do when your bot lane is 0/8 and their xerath/heimer/lux/morg support is fed and comes mid/roams and theyre constantly seiging and your team keeps getting caught? I feel like this constantly happens in silver elo. If I just farm the team just slowly keeps dying and losing and if you try fighting unless you can 100 to 0 them you just get kited and die and it's gg. Maybe Kayn/zed jg to dodge snares/stuns?

I have a lower playrate on blue side as well, which might explain some of the difference, but I was also under the impression that blue side is usually favored?

Question What tank jungle would you add to your jungle pool and why?

I want a reliable tank jungle pick but I don't know which one. Rammus is who I'm most comfortable with, but it seems that in higher ranks he's more of a counterpick and I'd like to have a champ that is viable across the board. Picky I know.

Question I really struggle with knowing when I should be farming camps/leaving camps for ganks/going for objectives. Can anyone give me a guide that really goes in depth for the role?

I'm a gold support (I know) going head first into Jungle this season, mainly playing Warwick/Jarvan and trying to get myself to play kha'zix. I always find no matter what that even when I have 2/3 losing lanes that I am probably the biggest burden. I struggle to know where exactly I should be warding enemy jungle to counter jungle (or whatever its called), not sure when I should be playing overly aggressive (when I do it's either a massive success and can tell when I'm overwhelming the enemy jungle and i keep pressing that or I'm just getting 2v1 by the mid/jgl).

I also tend to put more value on farming jungle camps than I do actually playing aggressive, I want to learn when I should be doing the opposite.

For the most part when I play Kha'zix I can comfortably go for solo objectives early and will commit to deep warding/invading enemy jungle when I know where they are due to how strong he is 1v1. Any other champion is where I'm pretty skittish.

I'm 100% the problem, all I ask is there some go to guide that covers the role as a whole? I tend to just watch jungle champion guides without really knowing the basics of the role itself. I love the role as a whole and would love to escape the 4v2 bot lane shenanigans I get playing support every other game.

EDIT: It probably doesn't help that I'm playing platinum lobbies from my support games, I just find playing in draft I come across too many teams like 5friends having a laugh playing tanks so I just dove headfirst into ranked as jungle.

Question Como ser um bom jungler no League of Legends ?

Champions who could earn a spot in the jungle role to diversify the meta even more

In this post I'm going to suggest a few picks that would work amazingly in the jungle, specially for when mains from other roles get autofilled

  1. Ahri.... A better clearspeed would make her viable and her playstyle would resonate big time with the role
  2. Akali.... The reason why she can't clear is because of energy running out extremely quick when clearing. If she had an energy refund while hitting jungle monsters she would make so much sense in the role. The role could also use more true AP assassins since the only viable ones are pretty much Ekko and Evelynn (Elise and Nid are more of skirmishers while Diana is more of a fighter/bruiser)
  3. Taric.... His kit strangely enough works in the jungle and at the same time makes sense in it. Supports are heavily under-represented in the role. If Taric somehow gets great itemization for the role he could be a top pick without being a cheese merchant
  4. Lulu... Hear me out, believe it or not, Lulu has a really good first clear. With better itemization and a better scaling to her later clears we could have another support in the role that actually works
  5. Marksmen who could use an extra bump to work in the role (They're all fun and would be great for variety, specially in metas where your team may not have a marksman because there is a mage bot lane)... Examples that make sense in the role are Tristana, Lucian, Nilah, Kaisa, Zeri, Samira, Vayne, Twitch, Ezreal (as much fun as other picks like Jinx/Kogmaw/Ashe/MF/etc may be, their kits don't make much sense in the role)
  6. More mage variety... The role has very little pressence of mages, allowing the likes of Malzahar, Heimerdinger, Aurelion, Ryze (and Ahri which I already mentioned) the role could have better and more varied mage representation than Karthus, Zyra and the universally despised Brand

As a Midlaner, what can I do to get a gank

I play mid, now without being funny, it is pretty rare I get a gank, now I understand jungle prio and I understand certain conditions have to be met for a gank, what can I do to facilitate more ganks?

It's quite dangerous to shove in the current river monster jungle meta due to how many times people try to gank me, over 10 games, I received 3 ganks and was ganked 14 times, so it's not a gank economy issue

Discussion Demon in the jungle

In League, demons (whether champions or not) are mostly found in the jungle:

Evelynn

Fiddlesticks

Nocturne

Atakhan

The primary role for all champions whose main focus is killing demons should therefore be jungle:

Yone (unplayable in the jungle against even a minimally serious opponent)

Vayne (somewhat playable in the jungle, but meh)

Locke (played but not really viable in the jungle)

I rest my case.

(It's a joke, I am perfectly aware that demons are not tied to the jungle, and the game is not really focused on the lore anyway. It's just that I’ve always found it amusing that these three champions are usually depicted chilling in forests in the cutscenes, even though that’s not their role in the game)

Question Howcome it has become a standard for people to add you to the end of games to tell you how miserable your whole life is?

Like most people here I play on full mute. And like half of my losses I will have the obviously tilted player add me after the game telling me how terrible I am at my role and that I should kill myself. The standard. I usually ignore these and go on to the next game

Yersteday though, I played a specific game where the early game went extremely well, having a nearly 100% KP on the 8 first kills of our team. At some point we went 3 top to dive the enemy and failed miserably, I gave my shutdown. I saw my top laner literally AFK under his tower for 3 minutes straight typing and I went like "no way this guy is tilted to the moon in an obviously winning game"

And then everything went to crap, every lane started to get blasted, we lost mid game pretty badly and they came back for the win. Doesn't help that the previously tilted top laner decided to ran it down and I learned later that was he was typing in chat was something along the lines of "I will show you what happens to the ones who int me".

Well, as expected, the guy in top tried to add me after the game. Nothing out of the ordinary. What I didnt expect was for my 3 other teamates to also add me after this game. I added them cause I thought we played well and they wanted to chat on how we could have done better in a 4v5 situation. (Silly me)

Turns out ALL OF THEM wanted me dead in some way, even though I really thought I played quite a good game. Ive never seen this. Never felt more hate towards me in a situation where I thought I did good. like.... I don't know it's depressing I'm not sure what to do to keep my mental high after these kind of events. Howcome this kind of behaviour has become the standard? It's pathetic. Makes me wanna quit this game for good.

Question Do I deserve D4?

I just got promoted to D4 finally after like a decade of trying (started jungle two years ago). I can't explain how much I wanted to get there. However, I got it promoted in the most unsatisfying way possible which I don't think happened to anyone lol.

I was E1 81LP so I played my final game to D4. I lost that game but I still got promoted to D4. The reason this happened is that I already got promoted to D4 12 LP as soon as my last game started because Vanguard detected it's a cheat game from a few days ago, so they refunded me LP and I got promoted to D4 12LP. Therefore, I lost the game but got the D4 promotion with my defeat lol but I lost the 12 LP. It's honestly so tragic I never even thought about it. I feel so empty because I really wanted to "win to D4" for the first time as I've been waiting for this moment more than the rank itself. I know it's just a game and w/e but you know what im saying lol.

Anyways, I played one more game and lost at 0 LP and now I have the yellow warning sign. I want to win at least one game so I can "feel" the promotion at D4 since I didn't get the chance really. I understand my mentality should be to not care about rank and play to improve. I try to do that but I'd be lying if I said I don't care about wanting to end diamond and get the border for my account. I admit I do care about it.

I want to play one more but I'm scared of demotion. Will I be demoted if I lose one more? And do I really deserve this rank if im scared?
