Any flooding?
Any updates on how the Joshua Tree area is looking after all the rain? I’ve been anxiously checking online but haven’t been able to find much.
I’m heading there Thursday for my bachelorette weekend, and we have a lot of outdoor activities planned (horseback riding Friday, Pioneertown, and some hikes in the national park).
Just trying to get a sense of how things are looking so I can prepare or adjust plans if needed. Would really appreciate any updates from locals or anyone who’s been out there recently!

I live here. The area gets cleaned up quickly. You should be good for next weekend.

I can't comment on conditions today, but not long ago I lived in Yucca Valley and always feared 62 was washed away the few times we had rain.
It never happened. Worst case scenario 62 had mud speed bumps, and nothing more. You'll be fine.

There’s some mud debris on the road along 62 and into the park, but it’s not a hazard. Wonder Valley was hit hard, a small few parts of 29 as well, but Yucca and JTree are fine. It will be a great chance for you to see any of the areas in the park that hold water like Baker Damn. I can’t comment on Pioneertown but I’s be surprised if by Thursday it wasn’t cleared up. If you’re riding you’re probably up at Black Rock. Might be some downed trees from the high winds and washed out areas but your ranchers would have already told you if it was a problem. You’re going to have a blast!

I’m currently in Joshua Tree and was in the park the morning after the heaviest rain (Sunday the 11th). Apart from the closure of the road at the south entrance, everything in the park seemed to be operating normally. Geology tour road was closed yesterday but unless you’re planning to drive scenic unpaved roads in the park, you’ll be fine. The surrounding roads outside the park were in fine shape.

How did you find out which Jumbo Rocks campsites were closed? Looking on recreation.gov and can’t find that info 🫠

What did you find out? I just got the email about some being closed but can't find out which sites were impacted.

Go to recreation.gov, the Jumbo Rocks page, and look at the grid view that lists all the campsites. Most of them say R for reserved or A for available. But a few say C for closed or canceled.
Would be a lot easier if this info wasn’t so buried!! I kept looking at my reservation and the Joshua Tree parks page and couldn’t find any info until a nice redditor pointed me in the right direction. Good luck!

The park is completely gone. Towns have disappeared. It is all a lake now.
It was just some rain….. What were you expecting?

😅 I saw they closed the park for a couple days after tropical storm Hillary a few years back due to some damage to trails and flooded roads so that was my fear haha

Can’t speak to the park, but we are out in Landers and drove into JT for breakfast this am. There was some mud on the road, but it wasn’t bad and we passed a plow cleaning the road. And the 62 closure the person a few comments above posted will very likely be cleaned up in the next day or so. Now, we did lose power and are still waiting to get it back so that sucks, but it’s supposed to be back on tonight.
I think it’s likely that your activities will be ok by the weekend, but I would check in with them in the next day or so. We’ve been thru worse out here for sure. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Hillary did a lot more damage to the park than this storm did. Form your itinerary it sounds like you are only going to be on the western side of the area and things are fine there. By the time you arrive all the sand from the showers will be swept away too.

My road in Wonder Valley is completely washed out in both directions. I understand most roads in the area will need cleanup and regrading. 4WD can navigate, but I’d stay out of the area if you don’t have it. EDIT: My property is 10 minutes to the entrance to JTNP.
