In which case, he would have had spent considerable amount of time in the basement. What does it say about the suspect who was that committed enough to act out his sexual fantasies to spend the entire Christmas evening and night plotting, stalking and hiding? He certainly was no bum but sounds highly educated and his absence that night should have raised alarms among the family and friends expecting him.

Assuming the intruder entered the house after the family left for party, giving him time for writing the ransom notes, he would have had to be scouting frequently for considerable amount of time for him to have known when the Ramseys left home. Wouldn’t the neighbors have noticed a stranger, whether on foot or in a vehicle?
