They only like MLK when he's talking about skin color.

They only like him when he can be used as a moral authority to say what they want. This is not an exception to that rule.

Peaceful coexistence if you are white.

The need for action and possibly violence if you are a rebel.

Anger at normies if you are a radical

Socialist tendencies if you are a socialist.

Nevermind, the real contrarians who think Malcom X was right.

All I see is a complex man, who has been defied like the founding fathers and everyone wants to use a moral authority to shut their critics up.

Peaceful coexistence if you are white.

Maybe I'm just gonna prove your point but I think that is the message that resonated with the masses, black and white. That was the most important part. Love is the way to victory, not hate.

Sometimes not even then. They try to turn him into Malcolm X and act like Letters from a Birmingham Jail is the most important thing he had to say. As though the "Brotherly love" part should be discarded and isn't what resonated with so many people.

I would add that the people on reddit definitely forget that he was a Reverend.

“They hated Jesus because he told the truth”

Though the irony is of course that while MLK talked about not judging people by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, the modern Left is all about judging and categorizing people by their skin color and ethnicity, and so called "positive discrimination" - which is really just racism by another name.

Who are «they»?

He was smart so he understood that antizionism was just a dog whistle for antisemitism.

If you want this to be taken seriously, you need to include a source next to his name so people know where the quote is from and can independently verify it.

The Anti-Israel crown will proclaim that Dr. King made these statements under duress or that he was misled by the Zionists.

They'll claim he's controlled by Zionists, because once they get done undermining Jews with "antizionism", the Black community is next.

No, they’ll pivot and say the only person that actually needs to be listened to is Malcom X.

Yeah, some are definitely willing to talk shit about beloved figures if it helps them sound more radically progressive.

Have you heard the crap they said about Lincoln at the San Francisco School Board?

1

u/danhakimi 3h ago

Maybe. I'm sure it was bad.

They'll claim it was Israel and not Hoover who blackmailed him with his indiscretions.

3

u/danhakimi 4h ago

They'll also claim that this statement doesn't make him a zionist, and then five minutes later start explaining why any decent antizionist must be opposed to Israel's existence as a state (going back to the real definition).

He talks about skin color in the same conversation. The Jewish leaders ask how they should respond to the Soviet-influenced slander that Israel is a “white colonial” state even though many Israelis are “Oriental,” i.e., not “white.”

MLK responds that we shouldn’t be focusing on skin color.

God bless MLK Jr

People on other subs voice some of the dumbest conspiracy theory nonsense ever and it gets upvoted. Like, I could imagine someone actually saying that. I can't tell if it is a total absence of critical thinking or just plain old antisemitism. Maybe both.

That’s weird.  I thought that dude was a librul.

47

u/ZZZZapperr 9h ago

He was. Liberal ideology supports the existence of Israel and Zionism.

I woukd have never known gathering feom all the conservative vibes I get around here.

Edit add:  I’m being facetious

Not anymore it doesn’t

I'm liberal and I don't see how it would contradict my views. Problem is antizionists trying to convince people it's incompatible.

6

u/RedditConsciousness 7h ago

The rest of reddit might believe that but you are incorrect. For instance the US Democratic party still at least support the existence of Israel, even if their support for Israel's self-defense isn't as strong as it once was (a fact that frustrates and disappoints me).

Counterpoint: Tel Aviv

u/ZZZZapperr 2h ago

It still does. The ideology hasn't changed. Some people simply stopped being liberals.
