Ask The Sub How can diaspora Jews support you?
As a diaspora Jew every attack on Israel/Israelis is deeply personal. But being here in the US is a helpless feeling. Its like all I can do is yell at people on reddit, which is probably pointless.
So Israelis...what can diaspora Jews do to help?
(P.S. cant make aliyah at the moment. Two elderly parents and two elderly in-laws to take care of.)

Honestly man just be safe. The last thing we need is someone other Jew to be targeted. When the situation will be unbearable, we are here as your safe home.

Thanks! Growing up my parents had a magnet on the fridge saying "traveling to Israel is like going home in both directions". I can't wait to move "home" to Israel.

This is... honestly, this is the most comforting thing I've seen anyone post in A WHILE

I use to argue with anti Israel people on Reddit all the time. Than I realized they won't change their opinion. I'm getting stressed and wasting a lot of time talking to almost all Aholes. Now I ignore them and I feel a lot better.

u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 7h ago
Yeah. That was kind of the reason for the post. I feel like my people are in a battle and I'm just sitting on the sidelines.

Antisemitism/antizionism is a cancer that’s pretty much infected every social media outlet or group known to man. Half of it are bots and the other half are so badly brainrotted it’s not worth it. You gotta prioritize your mental health too

u/VisibleCauliflower 16h ago
Call out antizionism as a racist hate movement. Hating an entire country of people is not normal. https://www.movementagainstantizionism.org/

u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 16h ago
I do. But yelling at people on reddit doesn't seem to fix anything.

u/Scruitol 15h ago
I try to think about the one (hopefully more) silent netizens for whom I did have an impact rather than the brain dead members of the hive mind.

u/VisibleCauliflower 12h ago
Fair. Write op-eds. Challenge local Jewish leadership and institutions when they go soft on antizionism. Be annoying. Don't be quiet.
5
u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 8h ago
Thankfully I haven't heard of any synagogues around me going soft on antizionism. There's a couple small ones that I can guess are, but i don't go to those places or know anybody that does.

Support yourself I’d say is the best answer.
You guys in the diaspora are part of us, so, whether you like it or not our name is represented through you as well, and I’d much rather you guys speak out in your defense rather than watch the likes of Jacob Berger and JVP speak on your behalf.

Be proud of your identity, keep your community safe and connected, and if you have spare money on hand, donate to charities such as Magen David Adom or Ezer Mizion

Always proud and donate to my synagogue. Will set up donations to MDA today.

If you're in the US, vote for and donate to politicians who support Israel. Americans can do more for Israel than anyone else, since they can determine whether Israel gets military aid and supplies or not. You could also donate to organizations like Stop Antisemitism, Stop Antizionism, AIPAC, AJC, and other Jewish organizations that advocate for Israel.

u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 8h ago
I live in the deepest of deep blue districts, so there is zero chance someone is approve of will get elected. So I do an opposition vote. But the Republicans are getting weird now too. I won't vote for a slightly less bad republican. Its full support or no vote.

u/ZZZZapperr 2h ago
If your vote doesn't count, then donate. You can donate to any candidate in any district.

Im not a jew (or Christian) I put up an Israeli flag after oct7th. My spouse was like oooh isnit safe and i was like well its not in front of anyones bedroom..If you are comfortable visibly supporting israel, not just being jewish, but specifically Israel, do it. Also. Learn hebrew if you dont know it and if you have kids teach them. Then take the kids to israel for vacation. Make sure the next generation can't get sucked into the bullshit when they go to college.
3
u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 3h ago
Thank you! We put up a "We Stand with Israel" sign in our front lawn (with additional security cameras). Unfortunately no kids. However my 80 year old father-in-law said just this week he wants to see Israel before he dies, so we're going to take him ASAP.

The best thing you can do is keep yourself and your family safe.

u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 8h ago
I generally feel safe, but I'm too mad to be afraid. The only place I really have my antennas up is at the synagogue or community events.
I have my concealed carry license but rarely carry except for at the synagogue. Although last week at a community event they had one one armed guard (visible at least) and he was too busy schmoozing to pay attention. I decided I'll be carrying when I go to events too.

If you're in the US, use that 2nd amendment. Learn firearm safety and practice. Things are going to be crazy for the foreseeable future and we need to defend ourselves

Make your support for Israel blunt. Vote for politicians who support Israel. Dissociate from anyone who lies about Israel, including other Jews. Call out their bluff and hate. Go visit Israel and encourage your friends and family to go visit. Make Israeli friends. Thanks for your support.

We had to wait for her parents to pass to come home. Best thing you can do is study and learn to speak, write and read Hebrew.
Talk with friends about what’s going over here for real not the crap most US news organizations spew.
3
u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 8h ago
My Hebrew is awful. I know it needs to get better.
As far as talking with friends, one of the things that has happened in the US is many of us have learned our friends don't care and don't want to hear about it. The silence has been deafening.
2
u/WRB2 6h ago
The silence is often mixed heavily with disbelief as the volume of misinformation is so massive.
Start with the sounds of each letter and identify them in block and script. Numbers and simple words and prefixes (e.g. here, be, the, yes, no). Listen and mimic the sounds of words. Build the basics, 15 minutes a day will pay off dramatically.

I have a theory that Jews come in two varieties, the Big Brains and the Do-Gooders. Sadly, I come from a long line of do-gooders. I'm just hoping to retire before I die.

Got'em and a few boxes of ammo. I train on the regular. Changing times and economic anxiety never plays out well for us.
I'm of the opinion the time to leave is now. My concern is that the right is going to be physically coming after us, and the left is going to be stopping us from getting to Israel. However at the moment I'm out-voted in the family.

At the end of the day, we're one nation. Have strong communities there, fight for your right of living safely, and be clear for our right to stay where we are, wherever it may be.

I do have citizenship. But I leave Israeli elections to Israelis. I obviously have my opinions but its for them to choose.

Fly to Israel and vote Bibi out?
19
u/Sol_Leks_48 USA 16h ago
I stay out of Israeli politics. That's for Israelis to decide. And despite following closely there's nuances that I don't know not being there.
Other than once I mentioned in this sub that I dont understand why Israelis don't have gun rights. I got down voted straight to hell. Lesson learned!
9
u/Gettin_Bi Israel 14h ago
Attitude towards guns is very different when 1. there's a bunch of people who really want to kill everyone and aren't afraid of dying in the process because it makes them martyrs 2. there's a bunch of soldiers everywhere and a substantial number of them have guns
1
u/human_number_XXX Israel 11h ago
There are gun rights to an extent, if you can prove you're under threat you can get a license. Proof could be even "I'm a jew in Judea/Samaria"
