Question posts will now require a link

Going forward all questions must contain a link to the artist or band in question. This is to prevent confusion for when multiple artists share a name as well as show that the user asking has done the bare minimum of looking at something like Metal Archives. Posts without a link will be removed but can be resubmitted once the user provides the required information.

He’s coming to my city in a few months, and I’m not familiar with his music at all, but I was interested in checking him out live.

I looked at his lyrics and didn’t see anything sketchy, but I wanted to be sure!

Really like this band but I don’t know German and cant find the lyrics online anywhere. I know their name translates to “Ironfather” which sound sketchy but I found out it’s a reference to a German guitar amp brand called Eisenmann (“Ironman”)

The project was born in 2003 on the initiative of Mercy, … and Argento, with experiences in metal bands (Spite Extreme Wing and Antropofagus)

And "Spite Extreme Wing" is very much a nazi band: https://extremeresponses.blogspot.com/2011/03/sieg-fail-decoding-italian-black-metal.html

However, around 2007, this Argento guy left.

What gives?

How bad is it?

First time really looking into this stuff and decided to go through my playlist. Any recommendations to replace the sketchy ones would be greatly appreciated.

Bands in my bm playlist in order of appearance:

Dark Funeral safe(?)

Marduk yeah, they get the boot

Gorgoroth please advise

Behemoth please advise

Bathory please advise

Emperor please advise

Mgła out

Barathrum no info

Archgoat sketchy(?)

Impaled Nazarene out

Dimmu Borgir please advise

Kanonenfieber safe(?)

1914 safe(?)

Rotting Christ safest on the list

Harakiri for the Sky second safest

Enslaved safe

Watain safe(?)

Immortal safe

Satyricon safe(?)

Батюшка safe

I really liked Marduk and Mgla, such a shame the people behind are not as great. Need similar sound to replace them. Also need more of Batushka type of chanting music or similar vibe. Also Also if you have bands similar to 1914 and Kanonenfieber, please share.

I was looking for album art inspiration and found the cover for Ashen Eidolan (the band's only album). This seems to be this guy's solo project. He seems to have worked with an anti-fascist band before (Kreator) but I'm wary because a lot of fuckers in this space pull the apolitical enlightened centrist bullshit

Edit: Not sketchy. Thanks for the responses everyone :)

Funeral Witchery

Hey everyone, I recently stumbled upon Funeral Witchery from Tucson, Arizona, and enjoyed their record more than I expected. Apart from songtitles and lyrics being a tad bit "edgy" here and there, I haven't found anything sketchy, but wanted to be on the safe side before I support on Bandcamp.

Thanks in advance!

So I have discovered this band... Sigillum Diabolicum. Their style is kinda weird but i kinda like it. Problem is, I can't find anything about them. They are apparently signed to a label that's marked with *NSBM on metallum. I went through every single band signed and none of them seem to be NSBM bands. The only band that is not fully categorized is Sigillum Diabolicum. No lyrical themes available, not marked as NSBM either. But they seem sketchy to me. Can anyone confirm anything about them? I don't want to support secretly fascist douchebags.

NSBM albums in spotify

apparently, there's a niche of people using burner accounts to post nsbm albums, using discord servers to notify people about it

Is death worship as a lyrical theme an instant red flag?

Rites of Pestilence YT channel is almost 99% sketch bands, labels and everything else.

Stumbled upon some interesting stuff with nothing suspicious at first, it was a neofolk EP with two or three songs. Then more stuff from the account started being recommended to me and I started investigating, it's fucking jarring how much fash stuff is in there, everything from british alt right to pagan occult neo Nazi shit from all over mainland Europe. Even the non suspicious EP I listened to ended up being published by a really sketchy label that sold merch from a clearly Nazi band. I don't doubt there's prolly some stuff there that's not sketch but unfortunately 90% of it seems to be pretty openly fash and 9% hide it a little bit.

Came up on my YT feed and was liking the art and music, but then a solar cross came up in the video pretty prominently. Anyone know?

Is there really any proof of Revenant, the bands leader being linked with the nsbm erase the sun festival? Where do the claims come from? The guy even has a picture on his instagram with a sharp skinhead.

Recently formed so there's very little to go off of, but curious if the band members' other bands shed any light

Belphegor?

I've heard the name around a lot, and they seem kinda neat, but you never know with these big black metal bands. I'd dig deeper myself, but I don't exactly have the time. Do your thing, Reddit.
