AI overview on Google is even more egregious then ever
OK, little rant: Has anyone else noticed that whenever you look up, say, a movie or TV show or anything like that, instead of getting that little summary on the sidebar of the page like you used to, this AI overview comes up now and spews it out? It comes up for ANYTHING like this. Initially, it was like fine, whatever, but look what happened when I looked up the Beatles. It just gave a summary of a random game, not the actual band itself. Like what the hell Google? Your search engine was already dogshit but now it’s just dumpster fire.

They're trying desperately to remain relevant as their AI competitors outshine them, but they're running up against the issue of cost right now. Selling ads is nowhere near enough money to fund an AI model that is good enough to provide useful results in AI summaries. It just doesn't pay for the hardware.

Anytime you search with Google end it with a "-ai" and it will not show it anymore.

AI overviews are trash. Half the time kinda okay, the other half absolutely wrong or stupid.
Enshitification of Google

Their engine has already been bad for a long while now. Guess they have to keep adding more fuel

Maybe be a bit more specific with your search.

Even before though, if you looked up this, you still got that summary on the side which said smth like “The Beatles are this and this.” I don’t want to have to be specific every time just so the AI doesn’t hallucinate info.

It didn't "hallucinate" anything. That's accurate information, directly quoted form Wikipedia - it just wasn't the information you were looking for.

It's shit but it's still not wrong. That is a real game based upon the beatles music and as far as I'm aware it's the last big "beatles" release in recent years
Obviously it should've defaulted straight to the beatles band but it's not like it has a brain to know exactly what you were looking for
