Why is everyone bringing their newborns to Disney right now…?

Post image

Kurin whatsherface is joining these ranks with her, like, 4 weeks old?! 4 week old unvaccinated child, at that?! Regardless of your vaccination feelings, that is wild to me.

What are these people doing?!

I go to Disney at least once a year and I’m always shocked to see newborns! Like why is this a socially acceptable thing? I didn’t even want to take my newborn to the store in my tiny town. Taking one to Disney never ever even crossed my mind.
Also my youngest got rsv at 8 weeks old and it turned into pneumonia and it was the scariest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my whole life.

There’s a cultural festival I’ve gone to every year for as long as I remember, but our daughter was going to be just under two months when it rolled around. We thought about it, woke up that morning and…didn’t want her to be cranky and tired, deal with nursing in a very public venue, or honestly even get up out of the house since we were both tired. And this place was only about 45 minutes from our house 😅. I can’t possibly imagine bringing a baby that small to Disney of all places! At that age they won’t even enjoy anything 🤷‍♀️

Part of it is that children under 3 go for free, so parents choose to take their toddlers and newborns because it’s cheaper. They prioritize their wallets over their children’s health.

How many of your children had major health scares that were outside of cough and cold season? And how long did you keep them indoors outside of crowded places before you went out or on vacation?

Many, if not most, of us wait until our babies have their initial round of vaccines around 3 months old to go anywhere very crowded.

So many moms have to go back to work way before 3 months. I had to go back at 8 weeks so my daughter had to start daycare. It’s not Disneyland but it’s not nothing.

Having to send a child to daycare is very different from choosing to go to Disney. That’s just you doing your best in a no-win situation. I believe our system for maternal support is extremely broken and women (and tbh all parents) should not have to leave their babies to go back to work so soon, but that’s a conversation for a different thread

Agreed. My point was that a lot of moms are not keeping baby home for 3 months as commenter suggested.

Daycare is way different than crowded public areas

u/Bubble-Master96 19h ago

Hardly? They’re even more full of illness

-2

u/Pomksy 18h ago

18 weeks is more than 3 months…no wonder this is hard for you

-6

u/Bubble-Master96 19h ago

I’d have lost my fucking mind doing that. This is such bad advise for mums mental health

5

u/PandaAF_ 17h ago

I said anywhere very crowded. Like please leave your house postpartum to go for walks, see friends, go to the quiet shopping mall, go to a restaurant off-peak times, go to a concert without your baby. It’s not bad for mom’s mental health to skip anything overly crowded with your newborn.

It’s not about you unfortunately with a newborn

Four kids and a newborn at Disney in flu season is a whole different level of stress I can’t even imagine

5

u/ijustwanttobeanon 1d ago

Same. My 7-week-old got the RSV-to-pneumonia pipeline a week after he got out of the NICU. Awful.

I collect Disney pins.

Sometimes there is a limit of how many pins you can buy of a particular pin. Let’s say it’s 5 per person. People will bring their newborn, and now they can buy 10. Happens all the time. It sucks.

1

u/Key_Exchange1426 1d ago

Wow for real? I know there’s a limit on some things at Disney but it has never occurred to me that I could buy three times as much and use my kids to do it.

1

u/SJBond33 1d ago

Yep, and it’s abused. It’s body count, not payment used.

2

u/Interesting_Move_846 1d ago

Same! We go every year and always plan around pregnancy/delivery to avoid ever taking a newborn. When we’ve had an infant we’ve tried to wait until after 1 so they can at least have their MRR vaccine. I can’t imagine taking a newborn.

u/ItsFunHeer 1d ago

Omg I am so sorry, that must have been gut wrenching. It’s just too young to be ill. I’m glad they’re okay now!

u/DraperPenPals 22h ago

Because people are free to leave their houses? Damn Jackie

u/Aggravating-Laugh687 1d ago

Yeah my sibling and his wife had their baby not long ago and even though she was totally healthy and didn't need the NICU or anything they still don't go around in public places with her yet. She's barely a month old and she hasn't had all her shots yet. So they just take to her doctors appointments for the most part and maybe the odd errand they have to run and that's it. And it's cold and flu season too so that is asking for the baby to possibly get something at this young precious age if other people get to close or you even touch germy stuff in stores then touch the baby.

I can't imagine taking a freaking NICU baby whose extra vulnerable out to the most busiest park in America surrounded by coughing kids, adults with colds or flues, and old ladies who love to go up to strangers kids and try to touch them. That's wild to be more concerned about your Disney trip and getting that baby in for free under three years of age over just waiting a bit to go with them once they've had all their shots and time to develop their immune system.

lol why is it socially acceptable? Wtf do you mean? You’re acting like these people are bringing their newborns to a strip club. Newborns are just as likely to get sick from an older sibling bringing something home from school…so now older siblings aren’t allowed to leave the house either lol?

-3

u/Ok-Credit7127 20h ago

Because the other 4 members of our family aren’t going to put our collective lives on hold and be shut in’s until YOU decide my kid is old enough to go to Disneyland.

5

u/Icy_Anxiety88 20h ago

Yessss! My trip to Disney absolutely takes precedence over my newborn’s life!

-3

u/Ok-Credit7127 19h ago

Admitting to the world that you’re incapable of bringing a baby outside without killing it isn’t the insult you think it is.

3

u/Icy_Anxiety88 18h ago

Everything is about risks. Taking a newborn to the Petri dish that is a theme/amusement park is a risk that only self centered people with no understanding of or care about their children’s safety and well-being take

-2

u/Ok-Credit7127 18h ago

Well, since you’re being a jerk and implying I don’t care about my kids… How about you be honest and just admit to yourself that you can’t afford it so you’re “waiting til they’re old enough to remember” which is actually just your sad internal code for never, so you’re lashing out at strangers that can. Oof.

4

u/Raginghangers 17h ago

There's a real big spread between "wait until they are old enough to be vaccinated and not have to get hospitalized right away if they get a fever" and "wait until they can remember as adults." Surely you can recognize the former is important, the latter is preference?

0

u/Ok-Credit7127 17h ago edited 17h ago

Yes, of course. I’m actually a physician. We’ve always waited until they got their 2 and 4 month vaccines before doing travel of any kind. Some folks may still feel that’s not long enough to wait. That’s for them to decide.

3

u/Raginghangers 17h ago

Ok. Well if you are a physician and recognize why those risks are important, why are you going off on the commentator who suggested that people shouldn't take a newborn to a crowded place? What you just said people shouldn't do is what they also said people shouldn't do. So why are you acting like they personally attacked you and being really aggressive?

0

u/Ok-Credit7127 17h ago

Newborn is a loaded term. In a medical context it means up to 28 days. Most average people don’t use it that way. Colloquially it means up to a few months. Agreed, taking a sub 28 day old to Disney seems dumb. But a baby that’s a few months old, has a couple sets of vaccines, and is otherwise well? If someone is going to tell me I don’t care about my kids for doing that, I’m going to be a dick to them.

Homie you are the one who’s advocating for putting your children at risk. It costs nothing to wait for ALL of your family members to have a safe and lovely time at a theme park, and it is by definition selfish to not think of the most vulnerable member of your family when it comes to NEEDING to take a trip to superspreader island supreme.

0

u/Ok-Credit7127 17h ago

You want to go but can’t. I get it.

1

u/Icy_Anxiety88 17h ago

Lmfao keep misdirecting, you’re really making a great point

3

u/Icy_Anxiety88 18h ago

Also outside does not equal a theme park lmfao what are you one

4

u/lovebirdie11 17h ago

I think you just triggered a Disney adult

3

u/DGinLDO 18h ago

So you love blowing all that money on a trip your kids won’t remember.

0

u/Ok-Credit7127 17h ago edited 17h ago

I assume you also must not buy your kids Christmas or birthday presents, or do anything fun for that matter, until they’re old enough to remember? Like, no fun or joy at all until 5? Just lock em in a closet til then?

Edit: To actually answer your question, yes, I genuinely love blowing the money on this trip, especially when they can’t remember. The years they won’t remember are the years when the magic is most real to them.

1

u/DGinLDO 17h ago

Where did I say that? Christmas presents for my family or trips to the beach (we live on the coast) don’t cost thousands of dollars every year. A trip to Disney does.

-1

u/Ok-Credit7127 17h ago edited 16h ago

So what’s the number then? You’re implying that there is a specific number at which it’s no longer “worth it” for kids to experience joy you don’t think they will remember. So how much do I have your permission to spend?

Edit: OH WOW, I just realized, that number could potentially, maybe, possibly be different for everyone. THATS MY BAD.

-7

u/Ok-Election4145 1d ago

Mostly because our lives don't stop when we have kids. That being said yeah it's a touch early

5

u/Certifiedpoocleaner 1d ago

I wouldn’t really call Disneyland “life” lmao. Grocery stores, swim lessons, school drop off, that’s life.

-1

u/Ok-Election4145 21h ago

Did you think you had something here? Only a handful of rides as someone who I'm assuming has kids what is the proper age to get back into motions with our kids? Theater pumpkin patch festivals theme parks etc? Tell me the correct age.

2

u/Certifiedpoocleaner 18h ago

I’m waiting to fly until my baby has her measles vaccine personally. Disney is going to become a huge hub for vaccine preventable diseases here pretty soon. Again, I don’t consider a flight to Disneyland “life”. The other things you listed I agree do sound like life with other kids. When my baby was a newborn we just made sure we weren’t going to super crowded places where we were going to be shoulder to shoulder with other people. I was especially careful because she was born during respiratory season.

2

u/tofuandpickles 1d ago

Going to Disney isn’t just everyday life sort of stuff

4

u/Drea487 1d ago

Yea I have to say I did almost book an impromptu Disney trip after I had my second bc I was on maternity leave and thought it would be fun to bring my older son while I had off. We didn’t end up going for other reasons but babies are easier at that age than later on as they will mostly sleep and you can baby wear. Also if you are breastfeeding like I was you don’t have to think about bringing food/sippy cups/snacks yet. 4 weeks is early but I do get the motivation especially if you have older kids who are the right age for it.

Downvotes for a non offensive statement Disney adults can be very toxic.
