Let My Life Be Last was formed in 2016 and released its debut EP, Heart of Fire, exclusively in CD format. Following this release, they were invited to release music through an independent record label, Exc3ssive-R3cords run by Elijah Robert. Before the release of the 2017 album, LMLBL wanted to ensure their identity remained anonymous, allowing Producer and Label owner, Elijah Robert, to be credited in the place of the band members, as the Lyricist and Composer. The goal was to ensure the band mates of Let My Life Be Last remains as anonymous as possible. Under the label Exc3ssive-R3cords, Let My Life Be Last released its first digital album, We Are The Released, in 2017. During its early years, the band frequently collaborated with additional musicians to supplement instrumental parts that could not be performed by the core contributors at the time. Although new material was written intermittently over the following years, recording activity remained limited. In 2024, Let My Life Be Last resumed active recording, culminating in the release of A Story in Circles in 2025.

The Shift

Later in the year of 2025, the band went through a hard creative reset. The original lead vocalist decided to shift into more of a background role — focusing on harmonies, screams, and writing lyrics instead of front-and-center vocals. Once the band figured out what they wanted their identity to finally be, they took several months to identify the female vocals they needed.

Their New Standard

Following the addition of their new female lead vocals, they began to record shortly after. Their band sound became something complex to explain, but simple to listen to and enjoy. The way they define their new sound is as follows: A melodic metal with dark harmonic screams and diverse vocals. Meanwhile the music matches the tone, but adds a layer of sounds and vibrations that follow the laws of Music Theory to naturally encourage specific emotions to be felt, based on the direction of the track and lyrics.”

Q: Why did you start making music?

A: We heard some songs from some of our favorite bands, but felt like there were some sounds that we craved that those bands didn’t quite fill, so we decided to record music together, just to have music for us to listen to and enjoy. Crazy, but that’s where it started.

Q: Why ‘Let My Life Be Last’ as the band name? Isn’t it kind of long?

A: Yeah, we prayed about it for a long time, and decided we wanted that one, because we couldn’t think of a better name originally! But then, it actually grew on us, as the motto behind the name is ‘I want to live, knowing I let my life be last’. We want to put others first in everything we do. Now and Always. But we also didn’t want it to sound like we were able to do that on our own, so our name is like a request to God. Anyone can wake up in the morning and ask ‘God, please help me to see that I need to put others first. I need to let my life be last and I need your help to do it.

Q: Up to this point, what song is your favorite?

A: That is a hard question. Our lyricist wrote Always Mine, Forever Yours as an anniversary song for his wife, so that one has a strong personal connection for us, it was a fun song, even if it doesn’t match our band identity.

Q: Is there a song you'll never release, and why?

A: Oh my gosh, yes. We had a song that was a jazz song back in 2015. Honestly, it was pretty terrible and didn’t really have any type of emotional or lyrical ties to encourage people. So we scrapped it.

Q: Has your music impacted anyone specific that you know of?

A: No one has specifically told us ‘Your songs got me through X, Y and Z. But honestly, we are okay with that. We believe it’s better to impact people and not know, because we want to take credit for the music, but like in Numbers chapter 20, Moses fell short and took credit for making water rush from the rock, and God disciplined him for it. We don’t want to fall into the same place. We know that God blesses us to be able to make music, but it’s His lyrics, His guidance, and His melodies that we are blessed to put together. So we hope our music has impacted people, but we never need to know that. As long as we continue to follow God’s guidance, then we know he’ll use His songs to help people that need to hear it.

Q: What song that was released that has lyrics, was written first?

A: Honestly, Filthy Rags was the first song written. That was written in 2013. Before we even existed. When it was written, there was literally no direction with it. As time went on, it was kept on the back burner until we knew exactly what we wanted and expected from it. Crazy. 13 years that song sat idle.

Q: Who’s your favorite band?

A: Fireflight. Disciple. I don’t know, I usually prefer soundtracks over anything else. Here's a fun fact though, most of our music is inspired by Seventh Seal, we all enjoy bass-heavy sounds, so most of our stuff up to Filthy Rags, was inspired by their sound.

Q: What is Exc3ssive-R3cords like?

A: Exc3ssive-R3cords is great. Obviously, we can't share all the details, but we are very blessed to know that our label is supporting our stance and doing a lot of work for us behind the scenes non-stop.

Q: Are you going to do live shows?

A: Full disclosure, we aren't sure of the direction we want to go about that. If it becomes something we are comfortable doing, we'll post an update. But honestly, our focus is on the music, and connecting with people that are sealing with hardships over anything else.

Q: What would you do, if I asked for a photo of any of you, right now?

A: That would be reasonable to ask, but we are pretty hesitant about blending personal lives with music. A few of us have photos online. Yeah, I am online for sure, but fortunately, my online presence isn't connected to the music we make. So it's not a big deal to me if I'm online. I don't let my personal life bleed into the band's music. One of us here, doesn't have social media though!

Q: Why is your merch so expensive?

A: From a music fan perspective, we do understand that question. We always wondered that about bands we like. Honestly, we don't make much profit from the items. The things we pay for are the items, adding the design to the item, the shipping cost for some of the items, also we have a monthly charge. That all adds up. So that's why we have the merch store prices the way they are. Our goal is to keep prices as low as we can without losing money for having the store. With that in mind, we want to say, we will never expect anyone to buy our stuff. Not the best sales pitch, but the reality is, the music is our focus. Anyone that wants to buy our stuff, thank you. Anyone that doesn't buy, we are still hoping that you can enjoy the music, lyrics and the passion that drives us.
