IJW: Casino Royale (2006)
So I’m on this journey of watching every James Bond movie and it’s been over a year since I started. I finally have gotten to the Daniel Craig movies and the first one in that series is Casino Royale from 2006.
I knew nothing about this movie going in and I think this is a great entry in the franchise. I think Craig does an amazing job in the role. I also think his chemistry with Eva Green is really good. Along with that I like the story because it kept me engaged the entire time but also because it’s more dark and gritty than the ones I have been watching. it also showed bond in a different way.
I also think Mads Mikkelson plays a great villain because he is menacing. Finally I’d like some of the action and that includes a chasing at the beginning of the movie. Overall, this currently is my number three bond movie in the franchise.

Why would you watch something you hate?

I was 12 when Casino Royale came out (saw it at the cinemas with my family cause it was getting a lot of hype) And at that age I didn’t hate James Bond yet.
As I got older, more and more I started to hate most James Bond movies, especially the Roger Moore ones.
But I noticed Golden Eye and Casino Royale were the main 2 I still liked despite getting older.
I think part of my anger is, I was really disappointed to see them bring Q back in Skyfall. Ever since Eddie Izzard did that standup bit about Q being a fortune teller who comes up with the most random gadgets that have zero logical connection to spy-craft the Q character has always ruined it for me.
I would have liked if the Daniel Craig Bond films stayed with the John LaCarre style.

How dare you, sir!
John LeCarre is awesome!
You take that back!(I’m joking btw, I’ve never actually read any of his books. I just like movies Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the Constant Gardener)

Hahaha yeah I was being a dick. But I do find some of the more serious spy thrillers are a bit tedious when translated to film.

Oh yeah I totally get you.
The Night Manager wasn’t really my cup of tea for example.
I really like “slow burn” to start..but super intense the 2nd half. And for me, Casino Royale is the most solid Bond film. I think it has the right balance of silly gadget spy fantasy stuff with decent action and decent tension.
Other spy movies I liked are stuff like Blackbag,Bourne 1, 2 and 3, Syrianna, Zero Dark Thirty.

Out of the 5 Daniel Craig bond movies there are only two good ones, Casino Royal, and Skyfall, the other 3 are totally forgettable

I rate Craig as the 2nd best Bond (behind Sean Connery) and the second best Bond movie (behind From Russia With Love).

This is easily my favorite Bond Movie.
Bond holding Vesper in the shower is probably my favorite Bond scene ever.
---Just started Her Majesty's Secret Service yesterday on my own Bond-a-Thon.
I have been dragging my feet because I am not a fan of the next 2 Bond Films. (DaF and LaLD)

"Bond with human face". Filmed in Montenegro with a lot of Balkan actors.
