IWTYO when I realized people with short hair have to get it cut regularly
People with short hair but especially men like how often are you getting a haircut? I cannot fathom going one every month or two months. That sounds awful I’m so sorry. As a woman with long hair I get a haircut like once a year or even longer if I’m just not in the mood or don’t have the money/time. I am seriously flabbergasted about this revelation.

IWTYO when I realized that the Transylvania Twist did not morph over time into the Monster Mash
In the song Monster Mash Dracula asks the question "Whatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?" and the response is "it's now the Monster Mash." Several decades ago my child brain decided that Dracula, being essentially immortal, had just been around for so long that the song he knew as the Transylvania Twist had, over time, changed into or become known as the Monster Mash.
IWTYO when I realized that a more literal version of this exchange would be "I thought that the popular thing was the Transylvania Twist" and "No, now the popular thing is the Monster Mash."

IWTYO when I realised that Frank Sinatra was white, not black
Okay this one is embarassing.
I am 27 yo. My whole life i tought Sinatra was black. I've rarely seen his photos, I knew about him only from the songs.
Even when I stumbled upon his photos, I never really took a closer look. I just had this idea that he was black and took it as a fact.
Today I saw his photo in some article that was not black-white. I tought no way. At first I tought that it's a proper example of white-washing. But later when I Googled him and took a closer look at his face... What the hell? How did I ever tought this guy is black? He has like... zero facial charateristics of a black person. He is white as white can be. Yes he has a tan but dude is white... Not Cristiano Ronaldo white. Proper white. I'm really shocked and embarassed.
Luckily, I never embarassed myself with this in front of anybody.

IWTYO: (when I) learned Incognito CAN actually keep u safe
was going through a master list of nunya sites (what ppl usually use incognito for), and discovered a use that extends beyond hiding your own search history from yourself (or hoping that what you search doesn’t affect social media recommendations/ ads in your daily life 😬)
TL;DR: Incognito protects you (a little) from malware/ dangerous sites.
when you restart your computer, all incognito tabs are wiped by default, just as an inheren feature of that browsing mode.
pardon the following run-on sentence:
this means if you‘re in the (very scary) position I was just in where, even after opening a link in a new tab (allows you to preview it just in case) and all seemed fine, you click on the tab and you have fullscreen (probably fake) malware notifications going off and fake messed-up-files stuff, followed by the horrific realization that keybinds don’t work (windows logo + tab, alt-tab, ctrl-tab, etc), when you force power off your PC/ device, the problematic tabs will automatically be gone when you turn the computer/ device back on. This prevents “startup” malware issues where the problem just comes back as soon as your browser is restarted.
Hope this finds its way to anyone that might have stopped using incognito after realizing it doesn’t actually fully protect your data from being harvested, in the hopes it will one day save someone’s phone/ PC etc.

IWTYO When I found out WWE was scripted.
I dont know how to feel. Ive never seen a real life fight in person before, only fights Ive seen are in movies or tv show. So the years of me watching clips of live WWE footage, I thought it was real.
I was in discord googling and seeing who famous had the same names as ourselves and Roxanne Perez comes up and I start saying "oh she looks really strong, oh shes in WWE she must be strong" and I get a reply "This is like someone still thinking Santa is real 😭 how do I break the news to them WWE isn't real" And I was confused googled and and yeah it says WWE is scripted.
I actually feel sick in my stomach Im 22 and Ive been watching clips for years and never realised?? Its a sport no? sport cant be fake, its a live sport how do you fake a live sport?? Im so embarrassed and I feel so stupid. ;w;

IWTYO when I found out extremely sour candy can be a form of self medication for anxiety
I couldn't understand why I eat sour candy until I feel sick on my stomach. Then as soon as I feel better, I eat more sour candy until I feel sick on my stomach and so on and so on. I can't stop eating it.
Now, it makes so much sense. I don't like taking medication, especially for my anxiety. Anxiety meds just make me sleep & sleep & sleep. I have narcolepsy, so a lot of meds do that to me.
Today, after downing 2 bags of sour skittles in about 4 hours, I googled "why can't I stop eating sour candy" and this is what I found.
You are likely addicted to sour candy because the intense shock of sourness creates a sensory contrast and adrenaline spike that triggers a rush of feel-good dopamine in your brain.
Why Sour Candy is Addictive
Sensory shock: The extreme tartness creates a "pattern interrupt" that jolts your nervous system, which can feel thrilling or grounding.
Adrenaline and dopamine: The sudden pucker mimics a mild flight-or-fight response, releasing a burst of adrenaline followed by dopamine as it turns sweet.
Sensory seeking: Many people with neurodivergent traits like ADHD or anxiety use intense sour flavors as a sensory-grounding tool to quiet racing thoughts or regulate emotions.
I had no idea
