Great Minds Discuss Ideas Fake intp
How to spot someone who claims to be an intp but is not

u/Brave_Quality_4135 Warning: May not be an INTP 1d ago
Why on earth would you care? MBTI is all about finding the fit that best describes us. No one is a perfect picture of the archetype, and even if they were, it’s only useful in how you gain self awareness from it.

Who cares. Being a certain type does not have any social or real world value so why gatekeep something thats only really based on self evaluation anyway

Why bother? Like what do you get out revealing someone isn't actually an INTP? 😭

Speaking like a true intp.
It’s cause some of my intp friends say that they can spot fake intps6

Then your friends need better hobbies

u/Other-Ladder1631 Warning: May not be an INTP 1d ago
According to them, their hobby is hate watching, judging other people and gossiping.

No true INTP cares so much about gossip and drama lol
Sure can be popcorn worthy, but as a hobby? Sod that.

Let me say this as an INTP who spends a lot of in their shadow functions. I like to antagonize people with an ENTJ style of questioning to derail their arguments. I have so much fun doing this, it’s usually my final step before resetting myself and getting back to baseline.
So i guess the point I’m trying to make is that these are probably just kids in their 20s, and if they’re not mistyped they could just be stuck in that shadow loop. They’ll crash out eventually and then do it all over again

Honestly wanting to be an intp because they think we're some kind of superior cool stoic robot geniuses is already a dead giveaway. We're the exact opposite of cool stoic geniuses. Probably closer to weird basement IT/lab tech goblins that hiss at sunlight and ask you to not touch the pile of garbage in the corner because its not messy its organized chaos.

Too accurate... as a introverted engineering student who hisses at the sun, the flair I picked made me laugh for the exact reasons you described lol.

Why gate keep

u/sne4k0 INTP 19h ago
The gate keeping is rampant in the MBTI community. I also see most a lot of coming from underdeveloped INTPs.
I honestly can’t stand most other INTPs

I think people take mbti too seriously when even professionals don’t use it. It should be just a fun thing rather a literal description on who you are. Like I say all the time: the brain is too complex for us to fully understand so personalities are too.

u/sne4k0 INTP 18h ago
My wife is a psych and she gets so annoyed when I talk about MBTI stuff. It’s just fun. But I did have an interesting thought that she agreed with.
MBTI is great way for me to quantify and measure things that are intangible to me. Analysis is so important for my self growth and pseudo science is so fun, why wouldn’t I combine the two?

For me it’s just a category a human made. Like most categories they are just patterns of things grouped together but aren’t inherently factual and can change like how Pluto was a planet and now isn’t. There might be some similarities enough for me to find common ground or familiarity with another infp or how an infp functions but I know not every descriptor is me or related to me because I understand I’m complex and I can change not even from day to day change but from moment to moment. One decision can be only solely logical whereas the next is solely emotional where the next has equally both. I think people play too much into the stereotypes which I think is a big problem. Causes people to feel superior and to have prejudice against personalities that they deem inferior or based off of one person they knew or think is a certain mbti.

You used “too” correctly 1 out of 3 times. I’m not sure what this means.

Those who can, do; those who can’t teach; those who can’t teach, police grammar on the Internet.

Those who can’t show the slightest bit of humility over something super small, and proceed to use a Jack Black quote to downplay their own failure and turn it around on the person accurately correcting them, are morons.

I don't think that's possible to any meaningful degree tbh. unless you watch them take multiple tests and confirm they don't use a cheat sheet, and even then it's probably possible to memorize enough stuff to pass.

u/FixAcademic8187 INTP 22h ago
Aside from all jokes, try to explain some completely random thing that is highly complicated but also fascinating at the same time. If they become intrigued and wanted to know more then that's your INTP.

Personality types aren't that important and it you care that much about them, then you might need to get a new hobby. Plus, why would you waste so much energy trying to discover who's a "real" INTP and who isn't? You're just wasting your time, and you're probably already procrastinating enough.

Does it really matter? I don’t really see the benefit of claiming someone you are not in this situation.
For me discovering my MBtI INTP was more for my own self discovery.

From what I understand, a real intp would not care about if someone is actually an intp or not, like you said. But some people use it feel superior or better about themselves

If they're that dumb and insecure that they need to claim a mbti type to feel special, just let them.
Its a core memory moment for them to look back on and cringe at. Kinda like how everyone in the 2010s was suddenly identifing as bi or coloring their fingernails with sharpies so they could be edgy and cool.My phrasing sucks ass so let me try again. Tldr: they do dumb thing. We all do and say dumb things. Formation of core memory for growth. Magic.

u/ChasingGoats07 Warning: May not be an INTP 1d ago
I agree with the mbti being a horoscope-esque self-narration tool, but to load on them with "cringe" is a bit harsh.
1
u/journeyofthemudman INTP-XYZ-123 1d ago
Has the word gained more meaning than I remember? I meant as in they will look back at this version of themselves later and cringe about how awkward they were.

I get the sentiment, but I don't understand why someone's sexuality would be used in this context if I'm being honest.

Its the first example that popped into my head of people pretending to be something they aren't because it was trendy and they didn't understand what it actually meant. Not anything to do with orientation.
Eta: I'm realizing this might not have been as widespread a phenomenon as I realized and people genuinely have no idea what I am talking about. Smooth brain moment for me.

Fake INTPs have dry scaly skin and forked tongues and lick their eyeballs to wet them oh wait I'm thinking about the lizard people again
