Need help identifying your dog? Here are some important tips to help you succeed.

What to include in your post:

Post clear, well-lit, full body pictures. At minimum, include:

  • One standing side view (taken close enough to see coat texture)
  • One frontal view

Tell us your dog’s age and weight (or best guess)

Other helpful information:

YOUNG PUPPIES may be impossible to identify. Head and body shape, coat color and coat pattern, eye color, and apparent coat texture can all change dramatically as a puppy matures. You might want to wait a few months before seeking an ID.

MIXED-BREED dogs can easily have many breeds in them, not just two. Keep in mind that some of the breeds in a mutt may not show in its looks; while in other cases the dog may really look like it has some particular breed in it, when in fact it doesn’t.

NO-BREED dogs exist too! Sometimes a mutt truly is “just a mutt” — the result of many, many generations of random mating between mutts, with no discernable inbred (purebred) genes its DNA. In the same way that YOU don't necessarily have any inbreeding (purebreeding) in your recent family tree, neither must a dog. They can simply be mutts — WHICH IS A GOOD THING!

Has your dog's breed been solved?

Once you're satisfied with your responses, please change your link flair to SOLVED. (Please don't make a post if your dog's breed is already solved/known)

Just bought a DNA/health test, was told golden retriever mom and border collie dad. She's almost a year old, 35lbs, and an absolute bundle of energy. I think the results are going to come back with a twist, what are your thoughts?

We’re pretty sure he’s an English setter but he was a rescue. He does have a pretty awesome flag.

She's a shelter pup with a mostly unknown history. Weighs about 20 kg (45lbs). About knee tall. Very timid. Have zero clue what could she be a mix of. If it helps, she was born somewhere in the Balkans

Does anyone have any ideas?

Adopted this guy from the shelter. Shelter said he was a giant schnauzer mix but unsure what he is mixed with. Any guesses would be appreciated.

Work from Home...

Background: Took in this little one (Biscuit) after I saw her following some of my co-workers near the parking deck of the hospital I work at. I was going to take her to the shelter or rescue but she had parvo (among other GI parasites). Couldn't get myself to let her go and my vet trusted me to treat it at home since I work in medicine (clinical pharmacist) - hence the "work from home."

She's all good now (besides some healing skin ulcers from all those injections and fluids I had to give) and is unbelievably annoying (in a good way; acting like a puppy, but rip to my already limited sleep).

I haven't got a clue of what breed she might be. I sent in a DNA test and am waiting for the results (which I'll post once it comes back). What do y'all think she might be?

Edit: I should mention she is ~15 weeks old and has very large paws and tail

this guy was adopted as a “Lab mix” from a rescue who found him as a stray! he’s super friendly, active, playful and clumsy. his temperament is very labrador but he’s got funny features:
- bouncy rose ears
- tall, 25” wither height at 15 months old
- long, muscular legs
- he’s REALLY fast
- he’s thin rn but has a fairly deep chest
- his paws are webbed but less pronounced

lmk what you think!! i just sent a dna test back so we’ll see :)

Hallo zusammen!

Meet Milly. Approximately 1 year old, 45 lbs. Picked up as a stray. Personality-wise she certainly is protective and territorial of our space. Girl will howl at a ball of dust rolling on the street. Energy-wise she is active but not nearly as much of a psychopath as my village dog who needs seven different types of training to be fulfilled lol.

Silky or Yorkie?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

At the end of last week, I adopted what I was told is a three month old Yorkshire terrier. I’m starting to have my doubts. His body is longer than a Yorkie’s should be. Also, he weighed in at 7.9 pounds at the vet on Tuesday.

My phone seems to think he’s a silky terrier. What do we think?

He's a goofy excuse for a dog! Guesses?? Chihuahua and? PomChi? Papillon mix?

I was told he and 1 female were the only long hairs in the litter big and fluffy and both were pulled from mama at 5 wks for hogging the milk. The other pups were small short haired apple heads and allegedly both parents standard purebred shorthaired applehead chihuahuas. But the woman who unloaded him on me at 1 year old when his owner died in an accident, told me they suspected a family member came over with a male dog during the females heat cycle. Because they couldn't understand 2 big long hair chihuahuas and 3 small size short haired chis in the same litter. But I have read this happens often in chi litters. Anyway. He has earned the name Radar for the huge ears. His legs are really long and he looks like a big deer head type Chihuahua. At 1 year he was 10#, and now 3years weighs 13# has a double very silky soft coat which has filled out like a Pomeranian but not full all over, a fluffy ruff, full long hair pants in the rear, crazy fluffy long ear hairs and his long tail has become a huge floofy plume that curls up over his back when he's excited. My vote is PomChi and possibly some Papillion? But, long haired chis do sometimes have giant rounded hairy ears too! The puppy photo was not taken by me but was told he was 6 mos old then. If you look at Pomeranian puppy pics many look like him.... Temperament wise he can be a pill like most chihuahuas but is goofy and outgoing, very sociable like a Pomeranian and he loves to fetch a ball and play with toys. He is very smart and trainable and barks weird like sometimes he tries to talk and he screams kinda like huskies do. So, since huskies and Poms are both in the Spitz family, I'm guessing PomChi. I've learnt there is often a big Pom called a throwback in a litter of small ones... Any guesses?

Our now 7 month old rascal Merlin was found alone in a junkyard in May. We originally thought he was some kind of chihuahua mix, but were very quickly proven wrong as he’s 26lbs now 😂 we’re thinking rat terrier or maybe even some pittie? Let us know what you think!

Hello everyone! This is my new adopted companion Pandora. She is a schnoodle and I'm curious to know if she leans more towards the schnauzer side or poodle?
