I’m a firefighter. One day, myself and the rest of the four-person crew I was on, went on a district recon. (Basically, we all were in a fire truck, driving around our district taking note of hazardous areas, potential risks, sprinklered buildings, etc. for pre-planning/preparedness)

We made a stop at a local swimming pool. We had recently gone through HazMat training and our captain wanted wanted to show us the chlorine containment plus the gas station, and elementary school that were all in the same area to illustrate potential dangers.

We went into the pool area to talk to the lifeguard about the chlorine storage and he looks at us, in full uniform, after just pulling up in a fire truck in full view of this guy, and says “uh do you guys work for the fire department?”

I was like nah man we just drive our own fire truck around and stuff.

My captain wasn’t too happy with my response but everybody else thought it was funny.
