Discussion What are the reference points for Hwei in lane?
So i've recently picked up mid lane, on this account i've gone from platinum to diamond the past few months. Ive dabbled with a few champions to see which ones i want to continue playing and invest time in. The one i plan to play the most will likely be Hwei.
So far im winning alot of games on him, i feel like i have a pretty good understanding of teamfighting, when to sidelane etc.
The one thing i dont understand is what i am supposed to do in lane. On some other champs i've played its very clear (like Viktor you play to dominate and his trades are very straight forward, you are basically strong and can contest the enemy on the wave from level 1 for the rest of the lane in 95% of matchups, on Vex ur honestly mostly chilling and holding ur spells defensively, have good wave states to move and such).
Now with Hwei i just dont know what im supposed to do, when i am strong, who i can bully and not. If i have a good matchup, like maybe a lower range mage, is the idea to scale until lvl 6-8 and lost chapter, then you try to play similar to viktors identity of pushing them in and trading? Are you actively looking to trade from early game? Can you do viktors gameplan vs assasins of posturing aggressively and poke them so they cant all in you or do you need to be alot more respectful?
If we compare his laning to other mages, and his isolated 1v1, am i a lane bully? If Viktor is a 10/10 for isolated lane, and ahri is a 3/10. Where does hwei sit?
Something that works for me is just playign scaling runes and fully stonewalling lane by Q-E clearing and basically not doing much... but my inclination is maybe this is a very bad habit and im supposed to do alot more (similar to viktor, would be grief to just sit in africa and lasering the wave in most scenarios unless ur behind or you just dont have a timer).
Assuming the idea is right of looking to bully, roughly when do you become dominant, if we assume good mage matchup and a jungler that doesnt have threat. Or should i be happy stonewalling every lane and just play for teamfighting?
If the idea is right that you sometimes become a lane bully. What are some common way to use your spells aggro? (What i am thinking is: Q-Q poke. E-E + Q-W/Q-Q. And if they are abit low you lead with R -> EW/EE->QQ/QW.
Cheers.
