terraform-provider-hue: manage your Hue bridge with Terraform

I made an open-source (MIT) Terraform provider for the Hue API v2, with a companion CLI, hue-tf. It manages rooms, zones, scenes, smart scenes, switch and dial assignments, and device names and icons. hue-tf also generates import blocks for what you have already set up in the Hue app.

resource "hue_scene" "evening" {
  name  = "Evening"
  group = hue_room.living.id
  actions = {
    (data.hue_light.sofa.id)  = { on = true, brightness = 40, kelvin = 2700 }
    (data.hue_light.shelf.id) = { on = true, brightness = 60, color_xy = { x = 0.56, y = 0.38 } }
    (data.hue_light.tv.id)    = { on = true, brightness = 35, color_xy = { x = 0.3, y = 0.13 } }
  }
}

Help & Questions Bulbs turning on at 1%

4 Upvotes

So I am not very tech inclined and new to the hue smart bulbs.
I have my bulbs setup in HomeKit, but here is my issue and what I am trying to figure out.

If we click on a bulb in HomeKit and dim it to off, but then ask Siri to turn it back on, the bulb turns on at 1%…however HomeKit shows it at 100% and Hue app shows 1% and the bulb is actually at 1%.

If we set a scene in HomeKit and a bulb is set to 50% and a different color, when we turn the scene off, then ask Siri to turn the bulb back on it goes to the last brightness and color. The same goes for automations.

How do we get these things to go back to a specific default when asking Siri to turn them on? Also is using the bar/dimmer in HomeKit for each bulb causing an issue?

We really want to love these, but it’s a bit of a Learning curve so far.

Thanks for any help or advice

Hue Setup Hue Bridge Will Not Connect

1 Upvotes

So I recently moved. I'm setting up my phillips hue bridge but having trouble. At my old house I had Fiber internet that fed a Google Mesh WiFi Router that I plugged my bridge into. At the new house, I brought the same Google Mesh Router and it's being fed by starlink. No matter what I try, the bridge will only have the first two lights light up. I think that's indicating it's connected to the router but not to the internet? My router has connection to the internet and no other devices have issues. I have swapped Ethernet cords, I have tried conn acting directly to the starlink router, I have tried switching the starlink router to bypass mode (this makes my mesh router not work at all). I even tried buying a brand new bridge and it still has the same issues. I'm losing my mind trying to make this work. Any suggestions?

4-sided Hue backlighting for 98" TV?

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I want to set up backlighting for my 98" TV, but I noticed that the standard large Play Gradient Lightstrips only cover 3 sides (top, left, and right), leaving the bottom completely open.

What is the best way to achieve a seamless 4-sided setup without having a dark gap at the bottom or in the corners? Has anyone here tackled a screen of this size and found a clean solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hue GU10 bulbs outside

Hi all,

Does anyone use the GU10 bulbs in outdoor light fittings? Technically they are for indoor use. Just trying to figure out if they will be ok outside. British weather, rain, cold and sometimes sun!

Thanks

Filament bulb broken?

I have several E27 Filament White Ambiance bulbs. One of them on the ceiling gives only very cold white light since last week. See the second photo. Other bulbs are still working properly.

What happened? What can I do to restore the warmer colors? Or is this one broken? I already removed and configured the bulb again in the app

Wired dimmer switch

1 Upvotes

Is there any hardwired dimmer switch that’s fully compatible with hue?

I’m familiar with the Hue switch module, but I want hardware that supports dimming with a normal slider or up down buttons.

I don’t want to use the wireless dimmer remote as it’s for my kids room and it will definitely get misplaced.

Track system for Festavia Lights

3 Upvotes

I picked up the Festavia Lights last year to hang under my soffits but was really waiting on a track system for a cleaner look and easier install. I decided to wait out hanging them as some companies mentioned they may come out with one. Unfortunately, it is now October and I still haven't been able to find any.

I will probably DIY it but was wondering if anyone else came across a track system for the Festavia that they could recommend... or any DIY? I honestly am surprised there isn't one available, as there are many available for Govee and other brands.

Other Found an AU/NZ replacement plug for Hue power adapters

Post image
24 Upvotes

Figured I'd post this since I had a hard time finding anything when I was looking.

I moved to NZ and needed the AU/NZ plug for my Hue power adapter. The power supply itself is already 100-240V, so I didn't need to replace it, I just needed the little removable plug that slides onto it. I had been using a travel adapter, but it was pretty loose in the wall outlet and I could actually hear an electrical buzzing/crackling sound coming from the outlet, so I wanted to find the proper plug instead.

I contacted Philips and they weren't much help. They told me they don't sell the plugs separately and suggested I try finding a third party adapter.

I couldn't really find anything searching for the Philips adapter that was somewhat decently priced, but I ended up doing a reverse image search of the plug and found what looked like the exact same clip used on the Bose SoundLink Mini II 2 Speaker Power Supply (S026FM2000125).

I found replacement plug clips for the Bose power supply on both AliExpress and eBay. I ended up buying an AU/NZ one from eBay just to take a chance and see if it would fit.

It showed up yesterday and it fits perfectly. The Bose clip is basically a 1:1 copy of the Philips one. It slides on the same, locks in the same, and the contacts line up exactly.

My Hue power supply is S020YM2400083.

Searching for Bose SoundLink Mini II 2 Speaker Power Supply S026FM2000125 plug or S026FM2000125 AC clip should bring them up. They sell the clips with different country plugs.

Mostly just posting this so hopefully the next person searching for one can actually find it, as I've seen other posts here from people asking for advice.

Help & Questions Any one else have this unfixable Sync issue? I cannot turn off “Background Lighting” where the lights don’t go completely black.

1 Upvotes

I can flip the switch on or off but any time a light should be completely off, it stays an ugly dim bluish. I’ve tried every combination of turning shit on and off I can think of! Anyone know a solution?

Help & Questions Simple automations not working as expected

2 Upvotes

I have two time-based automations

- One that turns on one scene from sunrise to sunset with a 5 minute fade on the sunset side.

- A second scene from sunset to 10p with a 5 minute fade on the sunset side.

I would have expected a 5 min fade between scene 1 and scene 2 at sunset, with the lights going off at 10p. What happens is that the lights turn off at sunset and don’t come back on.

Any suggestions are appreciated. This feels too simple to be not working.

Hue Setup Smart Button Setup - Hybrid Light and Automation Control?

1 Upvotes

Just got a smart button, which after 2 years of Hue lights seems like a simple solution to my biggest Hue pain point of being tied to an app to control my lights, especially around bedtime. I am setting it up and having trouble getting it to do what I want, though I feel like it should be simple.

Press: Turn lights in the assigned room on/off

Press & Hold: Trigger my bedtime automation (dims the lights until they turn off over 20 minutes)

During set up it seems like I can either tie the button to an automation OR tie the button to a light/room, but it seems like I should be able to set the two up together, I can cannot determine how. Is there something that I am missing here?

Also welcoming any Smart Button tricks that can help me get the most out of it!

Edit to add: While I figure this out I set it up to just trigger the automation. I tried it out and the automation won’t properly trigger either. Not really sure what this button can do at this point :/

Converting recessed light to a table lamp

1 Upvotes

I was a renter and I have 3 of the 5/6" recessed lights that I used in the old apartment. They worked great there, but the owner's kid needed a place to live so we had to move and we bought a condo. This new place has no recessed lights, and rather than sell them for pennies on the dollar, I was hoping I could convert them to table lamps or something else useful.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks.

Automation My Philips Hue lights turn blue while Claude Code works and flash green when it’s done (open source)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

0 Upvotes

I often start a Claude Code task and then walk away from my desk, so I wanted a status light I could see from anywhere in the room. claude-code-hue turns a Philips Hue room into one:

* When you send a prompt, the room turns blue.
* When Claude finishes, the room flashes green, and then every light goes back to the color and brightness it had before.
* If you run several sessions at once, the room stays blue until the last one finishes.

It uses Claude Code hooks, which `claude-code-hue install-hooks` adds to `~/.claude/settings.json` without touching your other settings. Light control goes straight to the Hue Bridge on your local network. It’s Python 3.9+ with no dependencies, and it runs on macOS and Linux.

I’d already built the same thing for OpenAI’s Codex (codex-hue), and I had Claude Code port it.

The video is an animation of how it behaves.

Repo: https://github.com/Minetorpia/claude-code-hue
The setup is done in less than a minute.

Help & Questions Question

1 Upvotes

Is it also possible to get a Bridge Pro and choose not to transfer all the lights? I have a few lights working with my Ambilight TV (without a sync box), and this doesn't work with the new bridge. My current bridge is nearly full, and I’m experiencing issues where things are slow or automations aren't executing properly; I suspect this is because the bridge is overloaded.

Help & Questions Need help setting up devices. IKEA lights and buttons, HUE bridge pro, Samsung phone.

0 Upvotes

I've tried everything, and none of the devices or apps want to work together.

HUE doesn't see IKEA stuff.

SmartThings only sees HUE bridge, but can't access it.

I have no idea how to connect them. They all support Matter, which is why I bought it all. And because the IKEA DIRIGERA hub has been unavailable in my county for... well forever.

Please help, I'm so close to just binning the HUE and keep using the IKEA lights with the IKEA buttons, no hub or anything.

Help & Questions Did I cut the light strip wrong

Thumbnail

32 Upvotes

I basically cut it right across there, I thought this was the ‘scissor marks’ they tell you to cut across. And now it’s not lighting up anymore. I didn’t cut it while it was powered on either. :( only after cutting I saw a different looking cut mark (3rd pic) What is the difference ??? :(((( I was so excited for it to work…

This is the hue flux light strip

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone I did power it on and off a bunch of times I think it might be dead. I just bought it so I’ll contact Philips in the morning

Help & Questions Exporting to apple home

2 Upvotes

I have been experiencing an ongoing issue when attempting to export scenes from the Hue app to Apple Home. Only a portion of the lights successfully transfer. For example, in a setup consisting of six downlights, two Hue Go lamps, and several bulbs, only two downlights and one lamp are included in the final exported scene. Has anyone successfully resolved this issue?

Omniglow vs Flux light strip in curtain cove

3 Upvotes

Hi all, I intend to place a light strip in the curtain vibes in my living room which is 5.9m. We also have a play corner of 2.58m beside the living room. The idea is to use different strips in both places so they can be controlled differently or together. I am not really sure what the differences between the Omniglow and Flux would be and look like in my space. Our floor is also tiled. Which of the 2 strips would you advise in these spaces?

Using a GE Cync 'Reveal HD+' Under Cabinet Light with Hue smart plug?

3 Upvotes

I'm a philips hue user but I was planning on purchasing a Cync GE Reveal HD+ under cabinet light for my kitchen, since they look really nice and it would fit perfectly in a nook where my hue light strip wouldn't really work. I was thinking of plugging it into a hue smart plug so that I could control it along with the rest of my kitchen lights with a single button. However it would mean switching the power off at the outlet and turning it back on every time which it obviously isn't designed for, so it depends on how the Cync light restores power.

For those with this light, does it return to the last setting you had it on when the power is off and then restored? Or does it return to some default state/setting? Appreciate anyone's experience with this, thanks!!

Discussion how many scenes do you actually use vs how many you set up

12 Upvotes

genuine question. it's so easy to end up with a bunch of scenes. some you made, some came with the app, some you forgot about.

but day to day, how many do you really use? i'd guess it's like two or three and the rest just sit there.

and how do you get to those two or three. open the app, scroll, tap? something faster? so yeah, curious if there's a trick or if everyone just lives with the scrolling.

what's your go to?

Had to cut 2 sections off but it’s about 3 inches from outer edge. I really wish it wasn’t 7 zones. My only complaint

Help & Questions Do you find Festiva Lights 3' spacing too wide?

1 Upvotes

So the US Festiva models have a 35" spacing vs EU models at 28" spacing vs LIFX at 24" spacing. This seems pretty far apart to go across the ~70ft of the front of my house. Also since each bulb on all those models above put out ~50lumens/ea, the US Festiva should be noticeably dimmer in total.

So do you find the spacing too wide? Should I try to order the EU models? Try to do something like 'looping-out' 12" of cable when I hang the Festiva to make them appear closer?
