Hey Reddit! Mike Flanagan, showrunner of CARRIE here, and I’ll be participating in my first ever Reddit AMA on October 9 at 8AM ET (5AM PT / 1PM BST / 2PM CEST). Be sure to drop all of your questions in the comments and I’ll be answering as many as I can this Friday. See you then!

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkUw2nh6fT0
Synopsis: Based on Stephen King's iconic debut novel, Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming‑of‑age story, adapted as a television series for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan. The series follows misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) who has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

Discussion Watched Obsession- i get the hype now
Waaaaaay better than i thought it would be, i have to say. When Bear ended the call with someone from the back of the Wish box my jaw hit the floor. I really tried to stay away from spoilers, and boy am i glad that I did.

Crystal Lake Just Dropped and isn't streaming
My only guess is that because its a huge title, server is lagging from people refreshing. Anyone else having this issue? I understand it is only 3:11AM EST but I been waiting all day for this, popcorn in hand :P

REMAIN CALM - A Horror Short starring Pauly Shore, Nick Swardson and Doug Jones
youtu.beHas anyone checked this out yet? It's 14min long and really damn good. This is exactly what I needed from these two. No more wessle. No more gay robot. Leaning into something new and killin' at the same time.
Creature was interesting. Reminded me of Barbarian.

Discussion Bootleg rip of Buddy posted on YouTube… by the creator.
I just watched the Casper Kelly film Buddy in full HD cause it’s out now and then went to YouTube to look up some lore videos and found that someone posted the whole movie, clicked it and it essentially looks and sounds like a cam rip that you find illegally online but the surprising part is the channel that posted it is Casper Kelly himself.

Discussion Hellraiser: Revival - all other horror IPs take note
Hellraiser: Revival is an excellent example of how to turn a famous horror IP into a video game. After an endless slew of 4v1 multiplayer games based on horror IP — Friday the 13th, TCM, Killer Klowns, Evil Dead, Halloween — Hellraiser: Revival creates a single-player survival horror experience that feels more like Resident Evil or Silent Hill but set in Clive Barker’s messed up universe. THAT’S ALL I’VE WANTED FOR YEARS while devs insist on feeding me multiplayer nonsense.
Now, the game isn’t perfect. The quick turn mechanic is a nightmare (I turned it off in the settings) and the combat leaves a lot to be desired. But the game so perfectly captures the Hellraiser mythos, immerses you in that world, and really lets you live in it. It also doesn’t shy away from blood, guts, sex, nudity, and kink. I hope the game does well enough to show other studios that single-player survival horror is the way to go.
Any other horror IPs you’d like to see get the Hellraiser: Revival treatment?

Traumatika (avoid avoid avoid)
So Amazon suggested Traumatika to me today and had it marked Most Liked and like 3 and 1/2 stars. I was like "A demon movie that clearly had a budget, is rated well and has a consensus that people liked it? How have I not heard of this one?" So I gave it a shot. I have a rule in October that if I start to watch a horror movie I will finish it and try to appreciate what the people who worked on it tried to accomplish. Horror is a polarizing genre and every attempt isn't completely successful but most seem to be earnest and because I love the genre I like to try and hear the artist out. Making art and putting it out there is an act of bravery, you know? Anyway I watched Traumatika and I regret it. I am writing this to help you avoid wasting your time. There were like 5 separate times I almost turned this movie off. The acting is awful. The pacing is awful. The plot is awful. What's perplexing is the movie clearly had a good budget. This is no student film. There is special effects work and multiple sets and settings. It has all the trappings of a movie people put time and effort into but the end result is just trash and not even fun trash. It is clearly trying to stand on edgy ideas like childhood trauma and sexual assault but handles them indelicately and manages to rob those disturbing elements of impact. Please don't waste your time.

Hidden Gem Never After Dark maybe the best horror film of 2026
I’ve seen almost every major horror release this year in cinemas, thanks to AMC A List, and this film totally blows all of the competition out of the water. Only maybe Obsession, Hokum and Buddy are in the same league.
Tense, spooky, intriguing and original ideas, an exceptional performance from the lead actress, the best sound and visual design of the year, just incredible.
Really wish this had a wider release, it deserves it.

Recommend What's your comfort horror movies to rewatch?
I absolutely love horror/thriller/mystery movies that has a great creative storyline, cinematography & atmosphere to rewatch. Unlike some movies which are a one and done, even if it's an amazing movie, they don't hit you the same.
Please give me your comfort rewatch recommendations, anything in the horror/thriller/mystery category!
I love a foggy, misty, almost blue tint, cold weather, sort of movies, those almost automatically make it to my cherished rewatch list! I hope my list below tells you that, please do recommend me more you think I'd love too.
These are some of mine:
Misery
The goonies
Let the right one in
Thirteen ghosts
3 women
Girl, interrupted
Dream house
Twilight
The lodge
Sleepy hollow
Where the crawdads sing
Don't be afraid of the dark
The tall man
The shining
The ward

Japanese horror
Ringu o. What does everyone think of this movie? I love this one the most and the old school Japanese vibe is really refreshing I feel japan has such deep ideas of life and death and trauma and how other galaxys collide and sometimes against their will.

Discussion Cooking with Pumkinhead
I decided to go all in for dinner while I watch Pumkinhead. Pumpkin mash with poblano peppers, pumpkin samosas, pumpkin bakewell tart with pumpkin yoghurt, and a pumpkin beer to wash it all down. Just a bit sad I could find any haggis. Not pictured: the sour patch kids that were absolutely destroyed before this post.
Has anyone else done food themes for horror? Lamb Chops for Clarice Starling? Yuzu maki to pair with Uzumaki? Or perhaps a good ol' fashioned BBQ for Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Gimme your ideas!

Discussion Who do you consider is the worst male significant other you've ever seen in a horror film to the point that you want to see them get offed?
For me it was either these guys:
- John Coleman in Orphan (2009)
- Micah in Paranormal Activity (2007)
- Guy in Rosemary's Baby (1968)
- Norman Spencer in What Lies Beneath (2000)
- Peter in Black Christmas (1974)
- Christian in Midsommar (2019)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 has an all timer jumpscare in it
I just watched this for the first time, absolute fever dream of a movie. Though one scene made me practically jump out of my skin. Chop Top is being gently guided out of the radio station by Stretch and then Leatherface just comes barreling out of a dark hallway completely out of nowhere. How did he get in without anyone noticing??

Discussion What are some movies similar to the movie Tusk? I want to be completely disturbed
Just watched Tusk for the first time and holy hell what a ride. I was absolutely engaged and found it mesmerizing. What are some other movies that are similar to this in its feel? Disregard the human centipede.

Discussion Was IT: Chapter 2 (2019) overhated when it released, or did it deserve some of the hate it got
I was rewatching this since it’s the Halloween season, and sure it’s not as strong or better then Chapter 1 and the CGI is overuse, but other then that I kinda liked it.
Since I was aware about the mixed to negative reception it had when it released, I wanted to ask other about their opinions since it’s now been over 7 years since its release.
