HoMM3 - Vanilla/SoD/Complete. Heroes of Might and Magic III - Released on STEAM.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4921760/Heroes_Of_Might_And_Magic_III/?curator_clanid=4777282

Previously if you've wanted to get HoMM III, it was only the HD version on STEAM. Now it has the DLCs as well. Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death

So instead of updating the HD edition to include the DLCs they are trying to sell the game again separately?

They don’t have a source code to include expansions wink wink

Why, when we have GoG?

SteamOS

Can't you install GoG in SteamOS? 🤔

u/Asttarotina Aug 26 '26

You can, of course. Not in one click though. Don't underestimate user's unwillingness to go go outside of default script.

Well, I am software engineer, I use only linux / macos, but even I don't have GOG on my steamos handheld. Just because whenever I pick it up I don't want to do anything other than click and play.

And because I don't have almost anything in my GoG that I'd like to play on an older handheld, but that's besides the point, lol

I'm planning to buy a desktop for gaming (I was thinking about Steam Machine but then I decided not to buy it) and install SteamOS on it, and since I'm more interested in Blizzard games than in Steam games, I searched for some guide to install Blizzard launcher on SteamOS and it seems pretty easy, I mean if I understood correctly it's just a couple of clicks, did I miss something?

Couple of click too many for majority of users. There's a reason something like ROG Ally X exists and has customers, for example.

It is pretty easy to install everything. Especially if it's on a desktop. There's some learning curve, need to learn how to use apps like Lutris and Heroic Launcher. Need to learn how to add games from other stores into steam if you rely on BigPicture. But at the end of the day, it's not a rocket science

But for Steam games 98% of times you just click install. And that's really good selling point, and you get used to it quickly

It's steamos compat is listed as unknown though... Proton db has dlthe hd edition listed as platinum.... Hmmm...

I've been running it on linux / macos for decades, it should be fine, but may require some tweaking

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Because why not?

0

u/PanHiszpan Aug 25 '26

why not pay twice? you serious? xd

4

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Why would you pay twice? Where is it coming from?

1

u/PanHiszpan Aug 25 '26

We all bought GOG version, now ubisoft expect us to pay again for steam version

6

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Why do you think that they expect that? If they release games on multiple platforms you buy them on each? Like you have all their games on Steam, Epic Store and GOG just to pay more than once? You must be pretty rich, impressive.

u/PanHiszpan Aug 25 '26

Let me think. Why would I assume that a company would want to maximise its profits?

I didn't say that I buy all versions; I said that a greedy company like Ubisoft wants us to buy the same game twice.

4

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Let's say that they do want that and not just attempt to cash in on remaining potential clients with specific store preferences. Why and how does that affect you? You already own the game on GOG. Why do you even feel that you have to pay again just because the game is available on a different store? Why do you care so much of what some faceless conglomerate expects from you?

"Why do you even feel that you have to pay again"
I feel that you can't understand what i'm saying. I don't feel the need to pay again. Where is this coming from?

"Why do you care so much of what some faceless conglomerate expects from you?"

Because you asked me a question about it xd

Once again, I'm just explaining to you why Ubisoft is releasing the same game again after ~10years. To make the majority of the playerbase pay again. Easy money for no work

To make the majority of the playerbase pay again. Easy money for no work

Everyone does that. Can't see how's that a bad thing.

I don't feel the need to pay again. Where is this coming from?

Read your comments again. LOL

In the meantime, please remember, you don't need to pay again. Take care.

Too little, too late. I would be happy if not for the sloppy looking remake.

2

u/Asttarotina Aug 25 '26

It would be funny when this 30 y.o. release will earn more money in a year than a brand new, fresh from the vibe oven, game they've spent so many tokens making.

HotA is also there:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5061200/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic_III_Horn_of_the_Abyss

Might be easier for some people who only want to play HotA and won’t need the launcher, like for Steamdeck or something. Most people also play Enderal via Steam just cause it’s more convenient or they just don’t know that the Steam version is years outdated.

u/Randvek Aug 25 '26

Ok now that is legitimately cool.

Wow, that's W on ubisoft, gotta say that.

That means no more Ws until next 5 years or so.

EDIT: They added heroes 3 on steam, but forgot to include the fucking game files. I knew it was too good for that company.

u/dexasz Aug 25 '26

Nice, so that must've been coordinated and contacted in advance. That's awesome for day 1 support.

2

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Yep, Ubisoft is working/coordinating with the HotA team on regular basis. It's also Ubisoft that arranged the inclusion of HotA for the Heroes 3 Board Game.

2

u/dexasz Aug 25 '26

This year has been insane for gaming. Plenty of games coming out left and right. My god.

4

u/cladclad Aug 26 '26

Ubisoft released only the .exe instead of the entire game-file.

1

u/dexasz Aug 26 '26

Wait, really?? Oh no..

7

u/dinin70 Aug 26 '26

Yes

Apparently they fixed it... But it shows, yet again, how much Ubisoft is incompetent.

Really gives bad omens for the Remake (which I won't buy anyway)

13

u/PanHiszpan Aug 25 '26

oh, so now ubisoft want our money? After everyone and their mother bought it already on GOG with hd fixes + hota xD

15

u/NorisNordberg Aug 25 '26

Ubisoft gets the money from GOG too lol

2

u/Tomaszewo Aug 26 '26

Oh no, my steak is too juicy and my lobster is too buttery.

Nothing wrong with having a choice, especially since Steam is the first go-to platform for most of the PC players.

3

u/Docterzero Sanctuary Enjoyer Aug 25 '26

Neat

5

u/Living_Inferno_5073 Aug 25 '26

Okay… but why though?

GOG has been available for years, goes on sale a lot more often, has HotA as a one-click mod, and GOG never makes the games they sell unavailable for any reason (GOG even gives you offline installers for the games you buy so you can burn your games onto physical discs).

8

u/dexasz Aug 25 '26

Not everyone does. Besides, my brother for example has no intention of making a new account just for a new game. He'd forget he'd ever had one. So for those who don't have it - STEAM. For those that aren't interested or already have it on GoG - they can walk by.

Who wants one - will get one.

-4

u/God_Faenrir Aug 26 '26

Stupid ahh comment. Buy on gog. And stop posting lies.

4

u/Asttarotina Aug 25 '26

SteamOS

4

u/Living_Inferno_5073 Aug 26 '26

I didn’t think of that. While I ain’t getting Heroes 3 via Steam given I already own it on GOG, the fact this lets SteamOS users play Heroes 3 is a good thing

5

u/Asttarotina Aug 26 '26

Well, you can play GoG version on SteamOS too, it just requires some tinkering that not a lot of users are comfortable doing. On Steam it's buy-install-play

2

u/DjPavlusha Aug 26 '26

Steam Deck, that's why.

1

u/AHomicidalTelevision Aug 25 '26

hey at least its super cheap

2

u/milosmisic89 Aug 25 '26

So no sale? No discount or upgrade if you already own Hd on steam?

2

u/reddxue Aug 26 '26

You wait for a sale and grab it for probably 50% off or more, like I'll do.

1

u/RoamingVapor Aug 26 '26

Just play Olden era.

Ubisoft owns the rights to HoMM as a franchise. Anywhere that you can legally buy it supports ubisoft. Gog and Steam both take a 30% cut of all sales before ubisoft gets their money.

1

u/God_Faenrir Aug 26 '26

??? Gog exists
