Before we get to the what if factors of history, I need to tell you what this is for. For a long time, I've been writing a book called "Inner Beauty", a modern day gender swapped re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. Despite it being set in the present day, I have borrowed one factor from both Disney movies in order to add tension for the couple. Our beastly lady, Sophia, is, or rather WAS, royalty. I wrote down that Sophia was the twin sister of Frederick of Wales, the father of George III. Thus, she would have been born in the Holy Roman Empire.
Anyway, what I initially wrote is that as usual, she was a spoiled, selfish, and unkind brat whom history would not look kindly on. She was so high maintenance, that many were afraid an arranged marriage involving her would end in disaster. So instead, George II, her father, granted her a new duchy in the American colonies. Officially, this was to strengthen ties between the colonies and the crown. Unofficially though, it was to get her out of any European court.
Anyway, she arrived in the colonies, one thing led to another, and she ended up pissing off someone adept in dark magic. So, she was turned into a frightening monster. Unlike the Disney versions, this curse has no time limit and has given her immortality. No, the tension isn't in a race against the clock. The tension is in her and Nathan, the human guy, learning to trust each other. You see, this backstory is NOT meant to be revealed at the opening. It's meant to be revealed later because communication is essential in any relationship.
But today, I'm not interested in the story set in the present day. I'm talking about the what if question of "What if Frederick of Wales" had a twin sister? Does this alt past I wrote seem plausible? Or does it need major changes? And what would the changes be? I need to get her into the colonies.
