An observation of the historical importance of the 1974/75 Issues of Eerie magazine leading to our HMM
Just a quick shout-out to the issues of Eerie magazine from the mid-Seventies, referring to issues #57-62, featuring the artists Corben, Wood, Wrightson and others. Praiseful Letters to the Editor in those, such as "I just read Eerie #60 and I think it's the greatest", "I thought Eerie #57 and #58 were great, but #60 was even better", "Eerie #58 was one of the all-time greatest...", "Just bought Eerie #57 and it is so excellent, words fail me", etc. Eerie #60 features 16 pages of TWO full color episodes from Wally Wood, and Richard Corben!
Seems like those years were a real turning-point for the magazine, when colored Corben episodes were being included and reader interests were steering from not just horror stories but also wanting sci-fi/sci-fantasy stories mixed in... from 1974/75, like a harbinger leading to our HMM two years later.

Help finding a story I read in Heavy Metal in late 1999 or 2000.
Hi all, during my early college years (late 1999 - mid 2021) I worked at the Starbucks located within a large chain bookstore (Borders) in the US. I would frequently read the gaming and PC magazines we had on my lunch break, and one day stumbled upon the incredible looking cover art for that months issue of Heavy Metal. I browsed through the stories and one caught my eye and I've never been able to forget it, but have since not been able to find out what it was called. I would love to re-read it so any help finding it would be appreciated:
It was a story of these living trees or vine people, and I don't believe they were humanoids walking around, but they had human-esque faces. They sort of slithered as vines or as moving branches and leaves within a forest. The heart of the story was a female one of these vine-ish people was brutalized by enemy male vine-ish people, and their vines and branches were, uh, penetrating her life force. It wasnt explicit r*pe, but it conveyed the feeling that they were surrounding her and doing bad things to her, and you could tell by her face and ambience/lighting that they were essentially draining her of her life force, Innocence, essence, etc. Her lover returns to find her withered and dying, and enacts revenge, and passes his love/life force to her to save her. I remember it being very damn cool despite the implied r*pe.
This was over 25 years ago, and I have a few images of the artwork in my head, but most of the details, and perhaps the story, were possibly remembered incorrectly. Does this ring a bell for anyone? I've tried to search for it before with no luck. Thank you in advance!

Relaunch?
I had a sub way back in 2018 so I'm pretty out of the loop. Last I remember Grant Morrisson was EIC. What happened?

Dear New HMM
I'd be more interested in buying your latest iteration if you featured articles on old world weird horror fantasy / sci-fi art, e.g., from around the 1940's Basil Wolverton's material ranges from creepy to MADNESS, e.g., reprints of "They Crawl By Night", some of his Space Hawk episodes are on par with Outer Limits, like "Spacehawk and the Creeping Death from Neptune", "Robot Woman", "Nightmare World": https://johnglenntaylor.blogspot.com/2010/08/basil-wolvertons-nightmare-world.html
There's Wally Wood, and Bernie Wrightson, James Royer Flora, Brandon Graham's "Multiple Warheads", Moscoso, alphabet designs and modern train graffiti to explore, The Bayeux Tapestry, and scroll through this kind of unique art from old France... https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Armorial_de_lâEurope_et_de_la_Toison_dâor#316
What I'm saying is, Instead of blasting readers with page after page of new in-your-face color, also delve into history sometimes to introduce them to some B/W episodes and out-of-the-box OLD unique material and art styles occasionally. That's why I originally was drawn to HMM back in the day... it showed me freaky old material I'd never seen before, regardless of its time or origin.

Story about a Bounty Hunter Working for the Church Spoiler
Please help!\ I remember a serialized story in Heavy Metal that I have been trying to find for years. What I remember:
- Released early-to-mid nineties.
- The main character is a female bounty hunter/mercenary who gets around on a motorcycle. She takes jobs for what appears to be the Catholic Church, and she is trying to raise the funds to spring her brother (a small child) from an orphanage.
- The setting is a future dystopia bordering on an apocalypse.
- The Church is headquartered in a massive building that houses different religious organizations throughout its levels.
- Another religious organization headquartered in the same buildingâa Satanic cultâraises a kaiju incarnation of either the devil or the beast from the Book of Revelation, and sets it loose upon the world to bring about the end times.
- The story may or may not have been written and drawn by Luis Royo.
EDIT: Found!\ I was way off on the timeline, as well as the creators.\ Yiu is a seven-volume French comic book series created by writers Thierry "Téhy" Terrasson and J.M. Vee.\ The character Yiu is introduced in\ Heavy Metal v25 05 (2001)\ The story I was asking about is titled\ Yiu - My Promise To You\ and was published in\ Heavy Metal v26 05 (2002)\ And continues in Heavy Metal v28 03 (2004)
The Story:\ In the brutal, futuristic world of New Jerusalem, mercenary assassin Yiu takes on another impossible mission to earn the money needed to save her gravely ill younger brother, Ji-A. Trained for missions from which survival isn't expected, Yiu battles religious extremists, grotesque enemies, and overwhelming firepower in a violent cyberpunk world where faith, technology, and fanaticism are intertwined and just part of the scenery.\ Also, there's a Kaiju Satan.

Yiu Comic Book Series
Yiu is a seven-volume French comic book series created by writers Téhy and J.M. Vee, with artist JérÎme Renéaume and colorist Nicolas Guénet, who replaced Renéaume beginning with the third volume. After the first volume was published by Le Téméraire in 1999, the series was taken over by Soleil, which published it through its conclusion in 2009. An animated film project, whose release had been announced for September 9, 2001, never came to fruition.
Yiu tells the story of a female contract killer operating in the futuristic world of New Jerusalem in 2112. The character of Yiu also appears in a spin-off series, Yiu: First Missions, illustrated by Vax and published from 2003 to 2011.
Synopsis
The beginning of the 22nd century. The world has endured a century and a half of devastating calamitiesâepidemics, terrorist attacks, civil wars, mass migrations, and more. What remains of humanity survives under the rule of fanatical religious cartels.
New Jerusalem is the convergence point of these powers: a city where representatives of every faith coexist. At the center of every rivalry, this ecumenical fortress becomes the battleground of a holy war in which there is no room for scruples.
Protected by every imaginable kind of high-tech weapon and vehicle, the great religious congregations can only be struck by highly trained mercenary agents, chemically enhanced and fitted with mechanical implants.
Among them is Yiu, an assassin specially trained for âNRMsââNo Return Missions.
Fast, meticulous, and professional, she accepts a mission that will plunge her into the heart of a prophecy, bringing her to the very edge of the Apocalypse.
Her only motivation: to earn the promised money, regardless of the price that must be paid or the lives that must be destroyed...
Yiu will ultimately find herself fighting a formidable adversary: The Antichrist.
Individual Stories: - Yiu Vol. 1 â In Hell - Yiu Vol. 2 â The Promise I Made to You - Yiu Vol. 3 â Assassaints - Yiu Vol. 4 â Pray That She Dies - Yiu Vol. 5 â The Fall of the Evangelist Empire - Yiu Vol. 6 â The Apocalypse or the Book of Revelations

How long do you wait for your back issue order?
Are yâall actually getting the shit you order?
I ordered a few back issues from the new series about a month ago waited a couple weeks, nothing. Contacted support, got a âweâre looking into itâ response.
That was a couple of weeks ago, nothing since. Should I cancel the order, or will it show up eventually?
I donât really mind waiting, but the lack of communication is a little sketchy.

My Collection (so far)
I found a used book store about an hour away from where I live, and decided to give them a ring to see if they have any HMM back issues. Guy was super cool, and it turns out he's got a few boxes he keeps behind the counter! I wanted to make sure I didn't pick up any dupes, so I pulled mine off the shelf to snap some pics before I headed over there, and I figured I'd share them with y'all.
As a guy who writes his own indie comics, people give me the stink eye when I tell them I never really read comics growing up. I never cared for much in the way of mainstream western comics outside of the Dark Horse Alien/AVP stuff. But that's only because my dad never tried to censor what media I read or watched, so I was too busy reading Taarna and Den to care about Captain America. No shade to western superheroes, but they just never could hold a candle to the stuff HMM was putting out. This right here is where I draw my inspiration. These are my Pokemon. Gotta catch em all haha
Still on the lookout for a CBLDF Frank Miller variant of #183. I WILL FIND YOUUUU!

ISO Damaged Issues
I just thought I'd check to see if anyone here happened to have any damaged issues lying around. I know that sometimes we end up with something with a torn off cover, water logged or something and we can't bring ourselves to throw it out. I've come up with an idea to upcycle these damaged mags and would like to get my hands on a few to try it out.
