Please post all TPS news and commentary here.
We will allow for limited posting on the topic in the sub for major developments and news.
At mod discretion we will take down and redirect TPS related post to this megathread that don't meet that standard

r/Haiti has grown significantly in the last few years. To keep this space on topic and a space for healthy, respectful, and thoughtful discussion, the MOD team is introducing 5 new rules:
Rule 6: No self-promotion or channel promotion
Links to personal YouTube channels, TikToks, Instagram pages, or any account soliciting followers or subscribers are not allowed, even if Haiti-related. This includes repeated promotion of the same external account or platform across multiple posts. Repeat offenders will be banned.
Rule 7: No low-effort or karma bait posts
We want real discussion, not karma farming. Avoid vague cultural hot takes or shallow posts like "Why do Haitians do X?" or "Thoughts on Haiti?" with no context. Add personal input, background, or a real question to keep your post up. Repeat offenders will be banned.
Rule 8: Limit of 2 posts per user per day
Each user can post a maximum of 2 times in a 24-hour period. This keeps the feed diverse and encourages thoughtful posting. Excess posts may be removed.
Rule 9: Posts must be directly about Haiti
Posts must relate directly to Haiti, Haitians, or the diaspora. Posts that could apply to any country or are only loosely connected to Haiti may be removed. If you are cross-posting to other subs, your r/haiti post must be specific to Haiti and not generic Caribbean or Latin American content.
Rule 10: Posts must link to credible sources
News posts must link to an identifiable outlet, journalist, or official source. Screenshots of headlines, unverified social media claims, and anonymous rumors will be removed. If unsure, ask the mod team.
As a refresher, the existing 5 rules :
Rule 1: No racism
Self explanatory. Prejudice or discrimination based on race or ethnicity. This goes both ways.
Rule 2: No brigading
Engage with the ideas, and argue constructively. Repeated ad hominem attacks will get you a warning, then a ban.
Rule 3: Stay civil
If you can't express your opinion without personal attacks or using profanity, you need to get better at debate.
Rule 4: No Trolling
Provoking an argument or emotional reaction. Inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive posts and comments designed to encourage an emotional response ( aka rage bait)
Rule 5: No Unapproved appeals for action
Request for collective action, including donations, to take surveys, to sign petitions, or brigading (sending our users to other subreddits). If you think your request is somehow special, send the Mod Team a request, and it will be discussed.
When using the report function, please refer to the rule you think is being broken. It helps us keep moderation consistent.
The MOD team.

Good morning, I am a Haitian citizen who have been living in USA for the past three 3 years. I recently obtained my bachelor degree and want to start my career. I'm considering making an asylum claim at an official port entry (land border), I have a Canadian family member.
My biggest concern is housing. My uncle supposed they'd provide me some kind of temporary housing and then he'd help me find a private room in shared housing.
Personally, I'd rather avoid living with many people that I don't know. Considering these facts:
- I speak Haitian creole (main language), French (8/10), English (7/10).
- I have around 5000 - 6000 USD (7,107.22 CAD - 8,526.84) in savings.
- I'd be willing to take any job to start.
- I don't have any Canadian history, I may not have a cosigner (I can't fully rely on my uncle).
- I'd like to live in Montreal but any place in Quebec would be fine.
How long do you think it'd take to secure a 1 1/2 or 3 1/2 studio (nothing shared) in Quebec?
I know things are slow in Quebec, do you think I should go somewhere else first before coming to Quebec? Or should I head straight to Quebec and see whether it's worth staying?
I am looking for software engineer roles, I don't have to pick a bad location from the beginning.
I want Quebec because I noticed French interviews are easier for me, however I'm wiling to compromise .
I have around 9k USD (federal loans), payment will start in February 2027.

Onè!
Gen yon fenomèn lengwistik ki rele lyezon. Lyezon fèt lè yon son makònwn ant de mo nan pwononsyasyon.
« an Ayiti », se pa « ann Ayiti ».
« An » kapab sèvi nan yon konstriksyon vèbal tou fanmi m.
Egzanp:
An nou lapriyè.
An n lapriyè.
La a, « An n » se fòm kontrakte « An nou ».
Kidonk, nou pa dwe konfonn lyezon ak kontraksyon.

"Why are some Haitian parents so low-vibrational, where you barely hear anything positive from them and everything is negative? It's like some of them don't love themselves, and some of them look so miserable."

Only issued in 1973; he was only 21-22 years old which is crazy lol; already two years into ruling the country. Surprising how he held onto power for 15 years
I love collecting historic Haitian currency; Haiti is so rich with history

I heard Rete La by Rutshell Guillaume and it has put me in a chokehold.
I have also heard se pa pou dat and various other songs from Lucas Seb etc
I need more songs with that infectious Rete La beat.
What do you guys listen to? What do you play at haitian parties that gets everyone moving?
I love Haiti btw. Y'all are amazing.

U.S. rice exports to Haiti, which account for the bulk of supplies of the country's key food staple, contain unhealthy levels of arsenic and cadmium, heavy metals that can increase risks of cancer and heart disease, according to a recent study by the University of Michigan
I believe this may be part of the answer to why Haiti is struggling after all these years. On top of the fact the US make import laws that decimated Haitian farmers.
Black countries have to grow their own food, not import it. Because outsiders who want to weaken or destroy them will sabotage them by any means they can

I had a conversation with someone recently and they were told by lawyers that they have transacted several real estate purchases for foreigners recently. Does anyone have personal knowledge of this?

Hi I'm 21f. I'm looking for people from Fonds Verrettes, or the whole of Croix-Des-Bouquets. I was adopted in 2007 and I was three years old, but I believe I was in the now Enfant Jeunese Orphanage much before that.
I know my birth parents names but I can't share because of privacy reasons I guess. I will say my father's surname is Jean Paul and my mother's Pierre, which I imagine are the most common and generic haitian surnames lol. But anyway, If these ring a bell to someone please contact me.
I know there was a flood that same year I was born, 2004 in May. My mom was pregnant with me at the time so she must have survived it because I wouldn't be here. Anyway, if you have any info I will be very grateful!!
If anyone is curious, the adoption was kind of sketchy. The adoption agency ( Different from Enfant Jeunesse) doesn't exist anymore and it's kind of creepy. I don't really know if it was all that legal to be honest.

Hi, I’m thinking about traveling to cap haïtien in January as American Airlines is restarting flights and looks like a cool spot to go. Is it safe for a white traveler like myself who speaks very basic French to travel there on my own? Some things I’d want to do is see the city but also leave the city to maybe visit the beach, sans souci palace and Laferrière citadel. Is it positive to get to these spots without a tour? I am a pretty experienced traveler just a little worried about the safety there. Any comments or advice is helpful, really debating taking the couple days of pto to make this trip
