Last December my hair was this length but I hadnβt had a hair cut or even a trim in 3 years, so I cut my hair to my shoulders in January and committed to getting trims every 2-3 months and itβs finally grown back out now, but this time the ends arenβt dead and thin! Soooo happy

And I have to say, my hair has absolutely transformed. It is so so so soft, no frizz what so ever, shinier than ever and I dont get split ends nearly as often. I probably need a trim every 6-7 months and I cut my own hair. I also started taking grass fed beef organ and this has made my hair so much thicker (I did already have thick hair to begin with though). Anyone else have success stories from doing this? Im obsessed

for the past like 4 months, Iβve been experiencing a progressively dryer and dryer scalp. At one point, it was a type of burning/stinging sensation on my scalp, the front and top of my head. and all the while, Iβve been losing more and more hair, easily falling straight out, the little bud and all. my hair has become way WAAAYYY thinner and a lighter brown than my usual very dark brown/black. Now each time I run my hand through my hair, I lose at least one more, and showers I lose tens of them. My head isnβt flaky or at least BARELY and only noticed once during one week.
i had an over the phone call with a doctor, and they prescribed me an oil (fluocinolone acetoneide topical oil 0.01%) and a lotion ( selenium sulfide topical suspension sup 2.5%), altough it does not feel like itβs helped at all, or merely subduing it.
im just frustrated and wondering what the heckβs going on, Iβve also had some weird hair growth abnormalities, where it comes in looking like itβs two different thicknesses? like itβs flattened then grows normally then flattened, along with it looking bent.
any help or advice if any of this sounds familiar would be much appreciate, photo will be attached.

I have really thick hair, and frizz has been a constant struggle.
Conditioner? Tried it. Hair oil? Yep, that too. Apparently my hair just has a mind of its own haha
Anyway, I'm looking for something else to try, and I've been wondering if switching to a silk pillowcase would help. I've heard they can reduce frizz and breakage, and might even be good for your skin.
Has anyone here been using one for a while? I'd love to hear if you've actually noticed a difference. TIA

Thank you to everyone who was so kind and educated me and supported me. I definitely panicked and you guys saved my sanity lol β€οΈ

I went through a patch of not taking care of myself because of mental health issues. I have extremely long hair and I've decided it's time to get it fixed. The mats are pretty big and my husband and I spent two days trying to untangle it and using things we saw on reddit to help like leave in conditioners and coconut oil. Nothing has really helped and I had to wash the coconut oil out of my hair after the pain became too unbearable. The mats are basically in spots where if I had to cut them out that would probably require shaving all of it off. I'm at my wits end and I am afraid I can't go to any hairdresser to get it unmatted because I know there's no way I'll be able to afford it. Is there anything else at all I can do...I'll be devastated if I have to shave it all off.

Idk what to do its just so frizzy and dry, I keep getting split ends, I was told this can be from protein overload ive been using protein free products and Iβm still ending up with the same results, yes I have curly/wavy hair but even if I take care of it, it ends ip like this. I bought olaplex num 4 for fine hair and num 5 conditioner.
I chopped my hair its now up to my chin

Hi, please help! I've been having this issue for a couple months now. No matter how long I rinse or different shampoos, this has been happening every time I wash my hair. The only time it hasn't happened was when I went to get my haircut at a salon & when they washed my hair it came out great & normal afterwards.
After I wash my hair & after blow drying it, I get this white residue on my fingers but it's not flakes, it's like white streaks on my nails. It's not always visible on my hair which is weird, but the whole top area of my hair definitely feel weird & tacky while blow drying.
I've tried blow drying then combing, combing then blow drying, double shampooing, single shampooing, clarifying shampoo, detox shampoo, nizoral, & nothing's changed. I also moved from California to Rhode Island recently and I'm still having the same issue even after moving states. I've spent so long in the shower just rinsing. like almost an hour in there total & it's mostly bc I'm just rinsing thoroughly.
The products I've used in rotation are: pureology sheer hydrate, redken pure volume, ouai detox shampoo, attitude clarifying shampoo, nizoral, & I've used living proof clarifying shampoo once. I've been using pureology sheer hydrate for the longest & redken after that, I got the ouai detox & nizoral to combat this a couple months ago but nothing.
I honestly don't know why my hair hasn't gone back to normal yet (besides the salon visit). Can anyone please tell me what's happening, what I can do, & what products I should use if any? Not sure what my hair type is but it's just standard dark brown hair, a mix of wavy/straight, but not sure if it's fine or thick. I'm 26 & female.
The first picture is when my fingers are through my hair & my nails come out whiter with white residue/white streaks, & the 2nd picture is when I rub my finger nail & it turns into this chalky and powdery residue. (Ignore the white skin on the side of my pointer finger, that's just scratched skin. The residue shows more on my middle finger.)

Even though I condition (with a rinse-out conditioner) after shampooing and try to be careful not to over-shampoo, my hair still tends to be a bit dry. I'm looking at leave-in conditioners but there are so many that I'm unsure which one to pick.
I've seen the following leave-in conditioners being recommended: Davines Love Curl Cream, Davines Oi All In One Milk, KΓ©rastase Curl Manifesto, Ouai North Bondi Leave-In.
I have wavy hair, ~10cm long.
Any of these, or other ones, that you would specifically recommend? Or what are properties, formulations or ingredients I should be looking for?
I feel like I'm constantly walking a very fine line between my hair feeling dull and dry, or too greasy, which is a bit frustrating.

Hello! I recently got nanoplasty done on my hair and was told I need to use a shampoo and conditioner without sulfates or sodium chloride.
This is proving quite difficult. Does anyone have any recs? Any help is super appreciated!

Hi, my hair has always been straight to my knowledge, but if I'm sweating or don't brush my hair out after I shower, it appears that I have a slight odd wave to it, but it never stays. Am I being delusional? Thanks!

I have been struggling with frizz for a long time now. Not colouring is not an option as I have greys too. My global hair shade is dark brown and I have very light brown streaks. I have tried home remedies and specialised hair treatments to tame them (even hair botox) that worked for a while but end up aggravating my problem. I have a round face and wear spectacles so I have no other option that to keep them a little longer than shoulder length and tie them in a bun. This adds years to my age. Any advice here -on care, style, anything that can help me?

Iβve been trying to find good products to use on my waves and loose curls. This is my hair out of the shower. I used Maui LightWeight Shampoo and Conditioner. When I got out of the shower I just scrunched with a 100% cotton towel. My hair gets frizzy quickly, even in the shower when itβs not soaking in the water. I live in a pretty humid area as well which I know doesnβt help. Whatβre some good products for fine low porosity hair including to help define my waves/loose curls? Most products Iβve tried just weighted my hair down and made it stringy. Please help :)

Is it best to dilute shampoo with water before using? Thx

Hi :)
I've been seeing people swearing by k18 and/or Olaplex and I was curious whether it would at all make a difference on virgin hair? My hair is black, curly (3a) and about mid-back length. I use low to medium heat with a diffuser once or twice a week. (And I do tend to forget using a heat protectant π)
My hair does tend to break a bit and not as bouncy as it used to be. And it does feel dry despite using hair masks and purifying shampoos. (I do have VERY hard water, by the way...)
But I was curious if anyone had used said products on similar hair (virgin) and noticed a difference, or it won't do anything for me? Just wanted to know before purchasing as they can be rather expensive. I'd be grateful to anyone sharing their experience with me :)

Hi Iβm new to Reddit just came here to ask a question.
I am going to visit my boyfriend in the uk next year. I am from America. I was wondering what are some of the best affordable shampoos and conditioners there. It appears they donβt sell the products I use there. I have quite thin and oily hair and am looking for something that will work with that. I use VO5 shampoo which isnβt the best but itβs very affordable and works for me. It appears they might sell some VO5 products there but not the products i like and use. Please give me some recommendations ππ
Thanks.

ive been straightening my 3c/4a for about five years now, i wash it weekly and was using a round blow drying brush and straightening on 320-350f. over the last 10-12 months ive noticed my hair breaking off/thinning a LOT and im at a loss at this point because idk what else to do. i started taking vitamins, oiling my hair before i wash it, and stopped with the round brush and switched to a regular dryer about a month ago but ive noticed no change.
my hair was past my shoulders, almost to my bra clips but now its barely touching my shoulders and its SO uneven. the perimeter of my hair is basically gone and all the length i have is from the crown of my head which looks so crazy irl. ive dyed it a lot in the past but have stuck to one color for about 3 months, only putting developer on my roots and using a color mask for the ends.
i dont even want it to be super long but im so self conscious about the thinness :( i really cant afford olaplex or anything like tht but what should i add to my routine? ive already trimmed about 2 inches off over the past 3 months but now it just looks shorter and still very damaged. wearing my natural hair is not really an option because it gets so dry and even more damaged whenever i try for an extended period of time :( my hair is naturally very thick and still pretty thick near my roots but it thins out tremendously around my ears

For the past few months, Iβve been having trouble with my hair. There are white dots on the hair strands in several places. My hair is very dry, and I can pull strands outβitβs as if they are breaking off. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know how I might be able to fix it?

My daughter is 7 years old. She has wavy, fine hair and she wants to grow her hair long. No one in my family has ever grown their hair long. The longest hair anyone has had is till shoulder length. My daughter is very keen to grow her hair long. Any suggestion on/tips on how to grow hair long? What products and hair care can I do? Currently her hair has already grown till her elbows but I am struggling with fizziness and breakage.

I don't understand why but when short my hair is completely straight, but as it grows it starts getting wavy, however, I'm not sure if that's supposed to count as straight hair or wavy hair. I've tried wavy hair routines and it in fact holds the waves pretty well after some gel and styling cream, but I'm still kinda scared the whole "forced curls" thing may be actually true since people always tell me I have super straight hair, due to this, I don't really know what should I do about it or what kind of routine should I use, does anyone have a similar experience? If so I'd be so glad to receive advice.
Sorry if my question is not structures correctly or doesn't even belong in the subreddit maybe, but I'm quite desperate for finding a solution π

I feel like iβve tried every shampoo and conditioner combo and nothing seems right for my hair. I have somewhere between 2A and 2B hair. I have oily scalp and dry ends and my hair is pretty thick. I have highlights and some demi permanent root shadowing. My hair takes a long time to dry and when not styled is very frizzy. Ends usually feel rough and brittle but do not show breakage.
Someone with similar hair pls comment with some shampoo recommendations!! I am in dire need!
