General Hair Transplant Procedure Romanticized?

I just got mine two days ago and holy shit it was ROUGH. Expected the anesthesia to be bad, so nothing crazy there, but being stuck in a chair in a same position for hours during extraction was not fun lmao. Fainted once right after it. On day 2 now and feeling way better. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Seeking Advice Help. Dislodged/damaged graft(s) or something else?

Thumbnail

I’m day 9 post-op and my scabs began to naturally come off during my daily wash. I know that grafts are locked in and secure by day 9, so with gentle rubs, I completed my scab removal today.

I have a few stubborn scabs left I’ll let come off on their own, but I’m worried about 2 spots in particular. Are these dislodged? Damaged? One has some blood it seems. Can it be a surface scar?

Seeking Advice Is this shedding normal on Day 25 after a hair transplant? (Day 0 and Day 25 photos attached)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on Day 25 after my hair transplant, during which around 3,000 grafts were implanted in my frontal hairline.

I’ve recently noticed shedding, and on one occasion (on 20th day), after scratching my scalp, I noticed a patch that looked almost completely bald. This has made me concerned about whether I’m experiencing normal post-transplant shedding or if I might have lost some grafts.

I’m attaching photos from the day of surgery (Day 0) and Day 25 so you can assess shedding.

I’d appreciate your thoughts on a few questions:

● Is this amount of shedding normal around Day 25?
● Can scratching at this stage cause graft loss, or are the grafts generally secure by now?
● If a patch looks completely bald, can the follicles still be alive beneath the skin?
● Has anyone experienced something similar and eventually achieved good density?

I understand that everyone heals differently, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been through the same experience, especially those who are several months or a year post-transplant.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and advice!

Choosing a Surgeon Fuecapilar Dr Gur

Hello. I’ve been looking into dr Gur because I heard he had a good reputation and was one of the most ethical hair transplant doctors in Turkey. However, when I look at their packages he designs the hairline and such but only supervises the operation itself. Advice?

Choosing a Surgeon Decision for a NW6

Hey everyone,

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Pittella, and he’s confident he can achieve great results with approximately 9,000 grafts (NW5, approaching NW6). I feel like I have a pretty good donor area, and my main goals are to achieve good density and a decent hairline.

The biggest hurdle is the price — around $70,000. I have the funds, but it’s still a significant amount of money, especially since my original budget was closer to $40,000.

I know Pittella is one of the best for high Norwood cases, but I’m debating whether he’s worth the premium or if I should explore other surgeons. I’m considering consultations with Miln, Bek, and Ratchathorn.

Would you bite the bullet and go with Pittella, or explore other options? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

Seeking Advice Purple Surgical Mark, Lingering Scab, Now Bullseye 🎯 Zone of Shock Loss

Thumbnail

Firstly does anyone know why this purple mark would be made here? I had PRP but not sure that's where they injected. I wonder about this because this is where I had a lingering scab that required antibiotic ointment and another week of oral antibiotics 💊. The scab finally came off naturally weeks after the other ones (about 37 days post) but now I'm noticing a ring of more serious shock loss (hopefully just that and not follicle loss) around where that purple mark and lingering scab was. Anyone with patchy shock loss post op, I'll take any reassurances or outcomes months later. Just nervous is all. Thanks all for the feedback!

Progress Update UPDATE 14 months post op

1st photo is 14 months post op. 2nd photo is before ht.

Went back to the surgeon complaining that not only does it not look more dense, I now have circles of missing hair. Got told by my surgeon at the 1 year follow up that the procedure was successful, I just need a second transplant. Which seems a little crazy to me I wasn’t bald before just thin. And I was told this will absolutely give me the results I’m looking for and fill in my part easily.

Got a second opinion from a female surgeon at the same clinic who noted, I definitely do not look like I have had any results, but they cannot accept any fault. She told me to go to my dermatologist and get a scalp sample sent to a specific scalp pathologist to rule out scarring alopecia before they try and come up with any solutions. This would have to be paid by me, out of pocket. I don’t even know what the results would say to them, if it would be positive they could tell me that’s a me problem and to eff off. But they are framing it as we want to potentially get you a refund or offer you other options “to get you where you want your hair”, whatever that means.

My thoughts, I would not get a female hair transplant unless it’s in an area where there is no hair. I’ve seen a lot of photos of success in hairline lowering but that is filling in an area that has zero hairs. I do not know what to do now. I’m out $10k and more bald than before.

Surgery Report Unpaid Review: Non-Shaven FUE Hair Transplant at Woomchan Hair Clinic with Dr. Hyun (Female Perspective)

• Upvotes

I found other people’s reviews on Reddit helpful when researching clinics, so I wanted to share my experience too.

I started my search in the US, looking for a surgeon experienced in non-shaven FUE and manual extraction. Through conversations with clinics, I learned that surgeons don’t necessarily perform every step of the procedure. I wanted someone who personally handled both extraction and implantation, so I eventually expanded my search to South Korea, where I came across Woomchan.

I had an initial video consultation with Dr. Hyun over WhatsApp. He explained his surgical approach and confirmed that he personally performs both extraction and implantation. I explained that I wanted a natural-looking refinement of my existing hairline, improving its density and symmetry. The conversation felt positive and productive.

Communication with the clinic outside of the consultation was less consistent. Sometimes I received quick replies over WhatsApp, but other times several days passed without a response and I had to follow up.

When I arrived at Woomchan, I met Jinny, the medical interpreter who helped me communicate throughout the appointment. She was patient and easy to talk to. Jiyoung, the clinic manager, also made an effort to find answers to my questions and followed up with me afterward.

For my in-person consultation with Dr. Hyun, I’d prepared notes on my phone about what I wanted and didn’t want for my hairline, along with an edited photo and a sketch. He read my notes and drew a hairline almost identical to the images I’d prepared, without having seen either one. I was genuinely impressed by how closely his design matched what I had in mind. After we agreed on the design, the head nurse took time to examine the outline, and two other nurses reviewed it as well.

In the surgery room, the nurses prepared my scalp for extraction, and Dr. Hyun let me know when he was about to start the numbing process. The injections felt like a series of short, sharp stings, around 6/10, but were over in less than ten seconds. Once my scalp was numb, extraction mostly felt like an electric toothbrush lightly nudging against my head. It took about an hour and a half. The non-shaven approach takes longer because only the hairs being extracted are trimmed rather than shaving sections of the donor area, but since I have long hair, I felt the extra time was worth avoiding the awkward grow-out period.

After a break of about 20 to 30 minutes, I returned for implantation. The numbing injections were slightly more uncomfortable this time, around 6.5/10, but were over just as quickly. Implantation took about an hour, and the sensation was similar to the eraser end of a pencil lightly nudging against my scalp. Near the end, Dr. Hyun gave me a chance to examine the hairline and asked what I thought before finishing the implantation.

I returned to the clinic the following day for a hair wash and checkup. The back of my scalp felt a bit tender during the wash, and Dr. Hyun examined my hairline afterward.

The first week of recovery was fairly straightforward. My forehead was swollen for the first two days, but most of the swelling had gone down by day three. The back of my scalp remained tender until around day six. I slept with my head elevated on several pillows, occasionally using a travel pillow to keep my head from moving around too much.

Although it’s too early to judge long-term growth, I like what I’m seeing so far. The shape looks balanced, and the transplanted hairs blend well with my existing baby hairs and seem to follow the natural direction of the surrounding hair. Between the attention given to the design and how everything looks at this stage, I feel good about my decision to choose Woomchan.

Surgery Report Hair transplant yesterday (Day 1) — Heavy bleeding overnight and some protruding grafts. Should I be worried? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I finally took the plunge and had my hair transplant yesterday, October 15th, at a well-known and reputable clinic.

Photo 1: Day 0 — Immediately after surgery (yesterday).
However, choosing a reputable clinic doesn’t necessarily mean everything will go according to plan. I guess there’s also a bit of luck involved.
I finished my hair transplant yesterday, and during the night, at around 4 AM, I got up to use the bathroom. When I looked at my scalp, I was shocked to see it in this condition.

Photo 2: Around 4 AM — The first night after my hair transplant.
I immediately contacted the clinic, and by 7 AM this morning, they asked me to come in earlier than my originally scheduled 11 AM appointment so they could clean the area before the blood dried too much.
The medical team spent about 15–20 minutes carefully removing the blood using saline spray.
The surgeon then examined my scalp and noticed that some grafts were protruding slightly. They hadn’t been completely dislodged, but they weren’t inserted deeply enough. According to the surgeon, this was because my skin is thicker in certain areas.
I want to make it clear that I’m not blaming the clinic or the medical team. They have been professional and attentive throughout the process. However, I’m genuinely worried about the final outcome.

Today is only Day 1 after my surgery, so everything is still very fresh.
I’m flying home on Tuesday (a 12-hour flight).
Until then, I’m scheduled to return to the clinic every day at 11 AM for cleaning and check-ups, except on Sunday when they’re closed and I’ll have to do the cleaning myself.
I’ve also completed a one-hour session of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) combined with Red Light Therapy, and I’m scheduled for two more sessions tomorrow and the day after, following my hair washes.
I’d really appreciate your thoughts, especially from anyone who has experienced something similar.
Has anyone experienced this kind of bleeding during the very first night after surgery?
Could the slightly protruding grafts affect their survival or the final density?
Do you think this looks concerning for Day 1, or could everything still heal normally?
For now, I’d prefer not to disclose the name of the clinic. I don’t want to damage their reputation over something that might turn out completely fine.
For context, there was only one surgeon involved. The surgeon personally made the recipient-site incisions, implanted the single-hair grafts, and then supervised the medical team during the implantation of the multi-hair grafts.

Thank you in advance for your feedback and opinions!

Seeking Advice (24M, 6 months on Fin only). Should I go for HT? Or better to wait until 1 year to see maximum regrowth potential?

Mild recession on temples only (Probably NW2-3). Started fin about 6 months ago. No minox (and I don’t plan to take it ever). So far, no noticeable worsening but no improvement either. I guess that’s still a solid outcome, since Fin is not meant for regrowth anyway.

I’ve been thinking of getting a minor HT (likely to be under 1k grafts). But I wonder if perhaps there’s still a chance for Fin to help with regrowth maybe after the 1 year mark?

Because if that’s the case, I can save those grafts for a potential HT later on.

TLDR: 6 months on Fin. No worsening and no regrowth. Is there still a potential for regrowth? Or should I just go for a HT?

Progress Update 9 days after Hair Transplant without shaving

I did my HT 05/10, with approximately 4500 drafts and 9000 hairs, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I opted for not shaving, since I shaved it all last year and was truly disgusted with the ideia of doing it again.

Still truly ugly, but trusting the process. I might trim on the sides a little bit, away from the transplanted area, and use scissors to even out my hair on the front. But for now, I just need patience.

Seeking Advice Best in the game for improving beard density?

I know beard procedures have a bad wrap because of the special nature of them and all the horror stories but I can also find what I think are legitimately good results online. I’m doing my research now and it’s exhausting trying to find the right doctor so any advice would be appreciated.

For clarity I have really good beard growth everywhere except the mid cheeks. I just want to improve the density there to help create less contrast between the goatee area and the rest of the look. I don’t want to awful new beard line that looks fake.

I understand beard transplants require different technique and considerations and the downside can be massive so I want to make sure I find the right surgeon.

Thanks

Hi guys, what do you think? The shedding phase seems to be over, but I still don’t see much improvement in terms of density. Is this normal at 45 days post-op, or should I be seeing more growth by now?
Would appreciate your thoughts!
