Discussion STAY OUT OF TAMAPA’S SUB

1.4k Upvotes

Come on Habs family. Show the class that sets our organization apart and stay the hell out of their sub. I’ve seen a ridiculous amount of posts from their sub pop into my feed because it’s Habs fans shit posting. We don’t hang banners for winning a round or a division or a conference. Be better than this.

GO HABS GO

“I messed the spelling up oh well.”

Mods feel free to delete this and sticky your own post. These I come in peace posts or straight up shit posts are pathetic.

Discussion We lost against the Stanley Cup Champions

1.5k Upvotes

That’s it. Not an excuse but clearly a good gauge of how special this team was this year.

I have no problems losing against a better opponent (until we’re the best ourselves)

Said this on his podcast this morning, hes one of the more credible reporters among Habs media. Wonder who he's talking about and what he knows?

Discussion Jacob Fowler is the first goalie in Canadiens history to achieve a shutout in regulation, OT and stop every single shot in SO in a single game.

1.2k Upvotes

This was briefly mentioned on TV and on radio. I’m surprised people barely talked about this.

BONUS: It was really hard to find stats like these, but from what I can find, there’s practically been less than 10 games that ended in 1-0 SO where the winning goalie allowed 0 goals in regulation, OT and SO, in NHL history since the implementation of the SO in 2005. Most goalies only needed to stop 3 shots in SO, because it ends on average after the regular 3 rounds of barrage. But Fowler stopped 6, I’m quite positive this is the first time this has ever happened in history, not only for the Canadiens. A stat of flawless shutout and no goals allowed through 6 rounds of SO is unheard of.

Another famous instance of such case that I found is Martin Brodeur of Devils vs Rangers on January 12, 2010. He stopped 51 shots, had a shutout in regulation and also stopped 4 rounds of SO.

Discussion Slaf is concussed - Demidov needs to wake up - Our PP is the worst ever... What are these takes, people?

After a loss, some of you have the worst takes I've seen. And if you've been around for a while, you know that this sub has seen A LOT of bad takes.

Slaf is playing concussed (lots of Dr. Recchis around here these days).

Demidov needs to be better (he's a rookie - he played 2 playoff games last year, so it's basically his first time in the playoffs)

Slaf is not a shadow of what he used to be (he's a 22yo kid who just had his first great season after all the "second year Slaf" talk)

We have the worst PP ever (we're at 19.6% in the playoffs, ahead of TBL, Buffalo, Carolina)

That's playoff hockey. Some players will outperform (I hate to break it to you, but as much as I love Newhook, what he's doing is probably not sustainable. Remeber Evans before signing his extension? That's exactly what he looked like).

Also, shocker, some players will underperform (do you think Buffalo is happy with how Tuch, Thompson or Power are playing? Remember Point or Kucherov with his 1 goal in the first series?)

Are you expecting our entire roster to be Mario Lemieux and win 6-2 every night? Some people here have the lowest hockey IQ/knowledge I've ever seen...

I understand that a loss like last night sucks, but as someone else said in the PGT, we don't have the team to sweep any series right now. We have a fun, exciting team with more depth than we ever thought, but we're not there yet.

And these takes show that some of you didn't have to go through the years of gettting excited over guys like Jesse Ylonen or a Jan Bulis.

We have a fun team that's way ahead of schedule. Enjoy the ride, have fun and complain without sounding like my mom, who has watched a total of 8 hockey games in her life (she didn't watch the beginning of the TBL series, hope you'll forgive her).

Much love, GHG, Habs in 6

EDIT: Demidov played in every playoff game last year, my bad

Discussion The ridiculousness of trying to watch every Habs game while living in Quebec.

Post image
432 Upvotes

I just find it insane that in order to watch every Habs game, you need to be subscribed to 3 different streaming services. TSN is kind of affordable with the 54$/3 months deal. But Sportsnet is in my opinion a complete rip off, 40$ a month. The sportsnet streams are always delayed and the quality is terrible. 40$ a month for a delayed stream is not worth it at all. I understand you can sail the seven seas but the delay there is also terrible.

I will subscribe to TSN, but I would rather go to a bar and spend 28$ on 3 beers to watch the game than give sportsnet 40$.

Discussion Gallagher

I'll probably be downvoted to oblivion for this but now that it's all said and done, one of my biggest complaints about those series is how Brendan Gallagher was treated.

A veteran, a warrior, a competitor who gave sweat and blood for the team and who could have brought some energy in those last series had to watch practically the whole playoffs on TV. Unacceptable.

I get it, he's not as fast as he once was, he takes penalties and age and injuries are probably catching up on him but he still can fill a spot on a 3rd or 4th line.

I personally hope he requests a trade during the offseason because he's clearly no longer in Saint-Louis' plans.

Discussion Opinion - It's time to make a serious offer for Elias Pettersson

Hear me out.

1) The Canucks are one of the only teams in the league interested in futures, which is primarily what the Habs are looking to give up for a top 6 player.

2) EP40 has looked *good* to start the season so far and has 8 points in 7 games.

3) The Habs were in on Marchenko, who commanded an annual salary of $12.5M. Pettersson is in year 3 of 8 of his $11.6M annual salary contract, which expires in 2032 when he is age 32. That is no longer a bad contract for a player of his caliber.

Now, what might the Habs have to give up?

First, let's look at the return for Quinn Hughes. The Canucks received Rossi, Ohgren, Buium, and a 1st round pick.

For Pettersson, if I was Hughes I would offer Kapanen, Engstrom, Zharovsky, and a 1st round pick. Yes, Rossi >> Kapanen and Buium > Zharovsky, but Quinn Hughes >> Elias Pettersson.

What do you think of my argument? Have I convinced anyone? Would you do the trade if the Canucks asked for Hage instead of Zharovsky?

Discussion What’s your story with the Montreal Canadiens?

Post image
196 Upvotes

Every fan has one reason or another for supporting a sports team. Whether it be representing their hometown, overall favoured athletes on their line up or in general simply finding admirable traits the team has that you respect. If you’re willing to share, what was your story in how you first started to root for and support the Montreal Canadiens?

For myself, I was a Portuguese-Canadian young lad who was born and raised in Montreal for basically my entire childhood. I have since relocated, however I still hold the team close to my heart for representing the place I once called home and still hold dear to this day.

(Edit: I wanted to say, I didn’t expect this post to get as much engagement as it did. It’s been really fun being able to read your unique experiences with the common team we all share in common. Go Habs Go!)
