Meta How to make an alternate history Wikipedia article: a tutorial

An important warning is, Do not save your sandbox! Only press preview changes. As all content in Wikipedia must be related to the encyclopedic effort, wiki admins might delete your sandbox and undo your hard work at any time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:How_to_vandalize_correctly

Today, I will write a tutorial as to how to make a fictional Wikipedia page for alternate history scenarios. Although I use my phone for all of them, I recommend going on a computer for better quality.

If you create a Wikipedia account on desktop, you will have access to a sandbox allowing you to test editing without commiting vandalism, which is a bannable offense. My trick is to copy the Wikipedia article for the event I want to alter, or the military conflict or country templates in the case of a completely fictional event. Then, you alter the content of the page as you please; this is the beauty of alternate history.

You can also use inspect element, a PC feature that allows users to privately edit a web page. A tutorial explaining how to use inspect element can be found here: https://zapier.com/blog/inspect-element-tutorial/

Illustrations wise, you can retain the article's original image, or change it by copying and pasting ones from real articles relevant to your scenario (for instance, a picture of Red Army soldiers for an Operation Unthinkable TL). But it has to be a Wikimedia commons image; otherwise, you'll have to photoshop your screenshot using Inkscape or some other image editing software.

You also have the option to change or add text to your article. Make sure to proofread them before screenshoting, in order to avoid potentially confusing typos or grammar mistakes. This is pretty much it.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | 2006 Mexican presidential election

Post image

In this alternate world, the PRD never formed and the PRI remained dominant throughout the 1990s, allowing Francisco Labastida to be elected President in 2000, defeating Vicente Fox and socialist Mexican People's Democratic Party (PDPM) leader Alberto Anaya, who became the most important left-wing politician in Mexico.

Labastida became one of the most unpopular presidents in Mexican history, because the cartel problem worsened significantly and the living conditions of poor Mexicans failed to improve. By 2006, Mexico had bucked the worldwide trend towards capitalism as Anaya became the frontrunner for the presidential election.

PRI dissidents led by AMLO formed the PP, a social democratic and left-wing populist party, and formed the "Union of the Mexican People", a coalition that called for a welfare state, criminal justice reforms to fight the cartels, and the reversal of the privatization of strategic sectors.

The PRI nominated Roberto Madrazo for President. Madrazo portrayed himself as the moderate, sensible candidate and Anaya as a dangerous left-wing extremist, but Anaya responded effectively by calling the PRI, with their corruption, authoritarianism and incompetence, the real extremists.

Fox mounted another run for the presidency, but Madrazo won over many right-wingers who had voted for him in 2000, and he failed to win over the middle class who had always voted for the PRI. Consequently, his support was reduced to partisan PAN voters who would vote for anybody the party nominated.

Anaya was the frontrunner throughout the entire race, and he ran a good campaign, allowing him to win the election with 45% of the vote versus 35% for Madrazo, 14% for Fox, 4% for Patricia Mercado, and 1% for Roberto Campa. Amaya's victory made him the most left-wing Mexican president since Lázaro Cárdenas. Hours after Anaya was elected, the Mexican Stock Exchange dropped by 25%.

As an interventionist who had fought against communism in the Congo War 40 years earlier, US President John McCain declared the socialist victory in Mexico to be a violation of the Monroe Doctrine and invaded the country on 1 December 2006, because the UN never existed, making wars of aggression less stigmatized.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Milton Obote (1925–2005)

Post image

Without Israeli support, Idi Amin's 1971 coup failed and was crushed by Obote, who purged Amin and his followers from the Uganda Army and turned to the Free Socialist Republic of Germany for protection. Erich Mielke helped Obote and his cousin set up a pro-German police state in Uganda, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people.

In June 1971, Obote expelled Uganda's Asian minority, claiming that he was giving Ugandan workers control over the economy. Asian properties were nationalized across the board. The expulsion was internationally condemned and did a lot of damage to Uganda's economy, forcing Obote to maintain power through force.

Furthermore, Uganda had tense relations with its neighbours Egypt, Free Belgium and Kenya, all of whom opposed Obote's socialist orientation. Another issue was that Free Belgium's leadership never forgot his support for the communist independence fighters in the Congo War.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Uganda was one of the poorest countries in the world. Most of its budget came from foreign, mostly German and Algerian, aid, and the majority of Ugandans, starved. If it wasn't for the support Obote received from the communist bloc, he would have been overthrown.

This almost happened in 1981, when Yoweri Museveni launched a rebellion with the stated goal of overthrowing Obote and installing a communist state in Uganda. Erich Mielke responded by airlifting $600 million on weapons and advisors to the Uganda Army, allowing it to emerge victorious.

On 26 March 1982, Ugandan Vice President John Babiiha died. Obote named his wife Miria as Babiiha's replacement, establishing the Obote dynasty. Obote increasingly entrusted security to his Lango ethnic group, whom he saw as more loyal and trustworthy than other Ugandan peoples.

Three years later, Obote's regime crushed the Rwenzururu movement and committed genocide against the Konjo and Amba peoples, the majority of whom were killed or fled Uganda by 1990. As time went on, Obote's popularity slowly increased because he, for all his faults, managed to eradicate illiteracy and modernize Uganda's healthcare system.

After the Revolutions of 2002, Obote abandoned his socialist economic policies and replaced them with a mixed economy. As his health declined, Miria increasingly took over the state's functions despite strong resistance from the military, which did not trust her.

When Obote died on 10 October 2005, Miria became the third President of Uganda. She only remained in office for a few months before the military overthrew her in a coup led by Aronda Nyakairima, who installed a military dictatorship.

Retcon: Manchukuo never voted to join China and remained a Japanese colony due to its large Japanese military presence and settler population. Despite controlling Manchuria, Japan was the poorest of great power, due to decades of sanctions and boycotts and the lack of economic reforms.

In May 2002, the Islamic Revolutionary Front (FRI), a Sunni fundamentalist group led by Abassi Madani, launched a revolution against Hachemi Chérif's communist regime. By the end of the month, the FRI was firmly in control of Algeria; on 1 June, Madani and Ali Benhadj proclaimed the Islamic Republic of Algeria (RIA), immediately enforced sharia, and launched a violent purge of the Communist regime's mostly Berber supporters.

Later in June, the Somali Democratic Republic collapsed into civil war. Somaliland took advantage of this to declare independence, while clans fought each other for control over the rest of Somalia, and there were revivals of maritime piracy and customary law. On 18 January 2004, the United States was forced to deploy a fleet to fight the Somali pirates.

By that point, Russia and China were powerful enough not to be US aligned. They became far more of a threat to US hegemony than Germany, but, in a significant change, these new rivalries were mostly commercial and technological rather than geopolitical or military.

The Revolutions of 2002 significantly boosted globalisation, because many countries that had been shut out of it due to communism became capitalist democracies. As an ultranationalist state, Russia remained out of globalization and did not integrate itself into the world market, preferring to remain ''fully sovereign''.

Now that Belgium and the Netherlands were no longer communist, the colonial governments-in-exile were dissolved, and the Congo and Suriname became independent under the leaderships of Jean-Pierre Bemba and Winston Jessurun, respectively.

Bemba ruled the Congo into a dictatorship and ran it to the benefit of himself, his cronies and the military. Suriname, on the other hand, became a stable and prosperous democracy after independence because Jessurun was more competent.

Rwanda and Burundi were still socialist dictatorships, as they had been for 40 years by that point. As their governments pursued inclusive, nonethnic nationalist policies, they did not suffer any genocides and had a much smaller amount of ethnic tensions than in real life, despite being very poor.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) 2016 United States Presidential Election (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

“On your feet, comrade! Ready for a little retribution?” - Perseus, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020)

Presidential elections were held in the United States on November 8, 2016. The Republican) ticket of businessman Phillip Graves and former Missouri senator Grover Shepherd defeated the Democratic candidate of Igor Sikorsky, chairman of the American Democratic Socialist Party and Mariah Rowe, former pop singer turned politician, and Black Lives Matter activist.

Phillip Graves, a major ally of the previous President, Saul Conklin, championed the conspiracy theory claiming that Roe v. Wade was somehow a predecessor to the Patriot Act. He vowed to overturn Roe v. Wade and repeal the Patriot Act.

Meanwhile, Igor Sikorsky ran on an aggressive policy leaning heavily towards Democratic Socialist Party ideals and, most infamously, vowed to codify Roe v. Wade as law, while also defending the Patriot Act as a necessary step to protect the American people from “enemies within.”

Sikorsky’s biggest and most infamous campaign promise was to “crush the anti-abortion scourge in the United States.”

Sikorsky would lose the election thanks to later revelations that he hired private military contractors to spy on various pro-life organizations, while Phillip Graves won in a landslide.

Ancient AH (Pre-476) The Adamic Covenant: One of history’s most violent cults (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

Post image
1 Upvotes

The Adamic Covenant, also known as the Restorationists or the Resurrectionists, is the name given to a fringe religious cult that was formed sometime in the First Century AD, between AD 30 and AD 62. It originated from Jewish mysticism and started off as a splinter group of Christianity. As of the 20th and 21st century, it is considered by many to be a cult.

Controversially, they teach that the Qu’ran, the Holy Book of Islam, is actually a deuterocanonical book, much like the Books of 1st and 2nd Esdras, and 1st and 2nd Macabbees, in addition to being a part of the New Testament Apocrypha, much like the Gospel of Thomas. They hold that Muhamad, whom Muslims believed to be the final prophet, was actually a follower of Jesus Christ, having been a disciple of Jesus after meeting Christians, before ultimately falling away and founding the false religion of Islam.

Unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam, followers of the Adamic Covenant also defend Transhumanism: the Restorationists agree with Judaism and Christianity in that humanity was created perfect, but with some additions, namely that humanity had a “full potential” that they lost after Adam and Eve rebelled in the Garden of Eden. Each person is born spiritually perfect (in direct opposition to the Christian doctrine that man is fallen), but mankind loses this morally and spiritually perfect state later in life, once they commit moral wrongdoings.

The Restorationists also believe that Cain, the son of Adam and Eve and the first murderer (having killed Abel) was one of the first “fathers” of the Adamic Covenant; after God marked him (which would supernaturally protect Cain from people seeking to kill him), God gave Cain a chance to rediscover the potential that he lost following his sin, and Cain agreed, spending the rest of his life fighting what many in the Restorationist Movement call a “holy war” against people who were deemed “complacent”, choosing to embrace their fallen bodies, rather than pursue and recover the Lost Potential.

They also believe that the Crucifixion of Jesus was Jesus choosing to destroy his fallen, Earthly nature and that the Resurrection was Jesus reclaiming what followers of the Adamic Covenant call “the lost potential”.

In regards to how man must live, the Restorationists believe man not only has a moral duty to swear allegiance to Jesus Christ and believe in His name for salvation, but must actively follow Him by embracing every opportunity presented in life through technological innovation. According to the Restorationists, disagreement with Transhumanism is rebellion against God, more specifically defending man’s fallen state as “man’s ideal state”, with the ultimate endgoal being a “righteous death”. The Adamic Covenant sees a life spent pursuing the Lost Potential before dying as a righteous one, and one’s death following the end of that life being a “righteous death.”

Another controversial tenet of the Adamic Covenant is the so-called sacrament of holy war (Hebrew: מלחמת קודש): mankind has a religious duty to wage war against his fallen body through technological innovation whenever possible. Refusal to do so is effectively pledging to live a life embracing sin itself and therefore, blasphemous.

The Adamic Covenant has been considered a cult for most of its history, but starting around 2003, they became a designated terrorist organization by virtually every country, owing to its track record of calling for violence against those they deem “Children of the Flesh” and committing acts of terrorism across various Eastern and Western nations.

As of 2026, the Adamic Covenant has approximately two million followers.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (1928–2004)

Post image

The Pakistani opposition never accused Bhutto of rigging the 1977 Pakistani general election, butterflying the military coup that overthrew him and allowing the PPP to remain in power. Bhutto's PPP later won the 1985, 1992 and 1999 general elections by landslide margins, keeping the Bhutto family in control of Pakistan.

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bhutto doubled down on his socialist agenda, making healthcare and childcare free for Pakistanis below the poverty line and increasing taxes on richer Pakistanis. These policies temporarily reduced poverty, but they later backfired, resulting in an economic crisis by the time Bhutto died.

As an Islamic socialist, Bhutto took little action to secularize Pakistan, and secularism progressed slowly; Pakistan remained a deeply Islamic country, and women's rights did not improve much. But the kind of Islamic fundamentalism prevalent in Syria and Indonesia never gained ground either.

Despite being socialist regimes, China and Pakistan were anti-communist allies of the United States because their main rival India was the most important ally of the Free Socialist Republic of Germany. Pakistan's development of nuclear weapons heightened tensions with India, leading to several low-level conflicts during the 1980s and 1990s (but no full-scale war to avoid MAD).

Solzhenitsyn's Russia had close ties with Pakistan, and the United States ran a U2 reconnaissance aircraft base in the South Asian country. The Kingdom of Afghanistan also had poor relations with Pakistan due to the Durand line, resulting in border clashes in 1992 and 1997 that ended in a victory for the much larger Pakistan.

A year after the first of these border clashes, Pakistan and India fought a brief war over Jammu and Kashmir. India won the war, putting Bhutto's rule in jeopardy and forcing him to reform the Pakistani military like the United States reformed theirs after invading Grenada in 1982.

Also, by 2000, the economy of Pakistan had stagnated, because Bhutto's planned economy made Pakistani businesses incapable of the innovation needed to meet public demand. He continued to have a strong base of support among poor Pakistanis, especially in his native Sindh, which became a virtual Bhutto fiefdom, but Pakistan's upper and middle classes and the military were increasingly dissatisfied with him.

On 8 March 2004, Bhutto died of a stroke at the age of 76, and was succeeded as prime minister by his daughter Benazir. Benazir Bhutto was almost immediately overthrown in a military coup led by Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who opened up the Pakistani economy and launched a massive counteroffensive against the Balochi separatists.

2016 US Presidential Election

 2020 US Presidential Election

2024 US Presidential Election

The 2024 Missouri gubernatorial election was held on November 5, 2024, to elect the governor of Missouri, concurrently with the 2024 U.S. presidential election, as well as elections to the United States Senate, the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections.

The GOP candidate of Grover Shepherd, United States Army colonel and former Senator of Missouri, defeated the Democratic candidate of Wesley Bell.

Primary elections took place on August 6, 2024. Shepherd won the Republican nomination, while Wesley Bell won the Democratic) nomination.

A former bellwether state, Missouri has politically trended rightward in recent years and is today a Republican stronghold at both the federal and state levels. The last Democrat to hold the office of governor in Missouri was Jay Nixon, who comfortably won re-election in 2012. In 2020, Mike Parson won by 16.41%, the first time a Republican gubernatorial candidate won by a double-digit margin since John Ashcroft's landslide re-election in 1988. Major news organizations predicted that the state would elect another Republican governor in 2024. Shepherd’s 20.4 point margin of victory is the largest for a Republican in an open-seat Missouri gubernatorial election since Reconstruction.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | 2002 Italian general election

Post image

On 12 January 2002, communist Italian leader Armando Cossutta resigned in response to mass protests demanding a transition to democracy. Massimo D'Alema became the new secretary of the PCI; he renamed the party to the PSI, freed political prisoners, legalized opposition parties, and made Italy's parliament democratically elected rather than by unions and soviets.

Four days after D'Alema took office, opposition leader Francesco Rutelli founded the PDI, a liberal and anti-communist opposition party. Rutelli soon formed the "Democratic Future" coalition with other moderate opposition parties, and contested the election on a moderate, democratic and economically liberal platform.

Gianfranco Fini, a former political prisoner under the leaderships of Enrico Berlinguer and Cossutta, established the PNI, Italy's first legal far-right party in almost a century. As a nationalist movement, the PNI opposed both communism and free-market capitalism, and advocated for restrictions on immigration and abortion, and the continuation of Communist Italy's independent foreign policies.

The international trend towards capitalism made the PDI the frontrunner in the election. Rutelli argued that a PSI victory would not result in any meaningful change for the Italian people because Italian communism was already quite soft, and strongly criticized the former PCI for its corruption and the demographic crisis caused by Antonio Gramsci's cultural policies.

Many working-class and elderly Italians still supported the PCI like their parents and grandparents had done, but the majority of younger Italians rejected communism. Consequently, Democratic Future won a majority of seats in both the Supreme Workers' Council and the Workers' Senate.

A day after the election, Rutelli became the prime minister of Italy, ending 82 years of communist rule in the country. Rutelli's administration adopted a new constitution, flag and coat of arms, carried out the mass privatization of state-owned businesses, opened Italy to free trade, and turned it into an ally of the United States and Solzhenitsyn's ultranationalist Russia.

By the time Rutelli left office in 2010, Italy had been irreversibly transformed. His Democratic Future coalition dominates Italian politics to this day.

Alien Space Bats Columbine High School Attack (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

Context:

On April 20, 1999, high school senior students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold attempted to attack Columbine High School, but were prevented from doing so thanks to a mysterious, anomalous individual, known as Cain.

Harris and Klebold, who planned for roughly a year, intended the attack to be primarily a bombing and only secondarily a shooting. The pair launched a shooting attack after the homemade bombs they planted in the school failed to detonate. Their motive remains uncertain.

However, the attacks would be thwarted thanks to a mysterious man calling himself Cain, a male human of Arabic or Middle Eastern descent in his early thirties who was found to know 800 languages.

On the day of the massacre, 17-year-old Rachel Scott and her friend Richard Castaldo were having lunch and sitting on the grass next to the west entrance of the school. Klebold threw a pipe bomb towards the parking lot; the bomb only partially detonated, causing it to give off smoke. Likewise, several students during the incident first thought that they were watching a prank.

Then Cain appeared unexpectedly, standing on front of Rachel Scott and Richard Castaldo. Harris shot Cain four times with a Hi-Point 995 (In our timeline, Scott was shot four times) from a distance of 10 to 15 feet (3.0 to 4.6 m). However, owing to Cain's anomalous abilities, the bullets ended up harming Harris instead, much to the disbelief of Klebold, Scott, and Castaldo.

The fourth shot, aimed at Cain's head, ended up killing Harris instead.

Cain then ran at Kebold, who attempted to shoot at him, thinking he was wearing some sort of body armor, but was also killed by his own bullets after Cain's anomalous abilities led to the bullets ricocheting off of his body and seriously injuring Klebold.

As Klebold lay dying, Cain walked up to him and taunted him about Klebold's intending demise.

According to Scott during an interview after the attack, Cain asked Klebold, "Do you believe in God?" (Ironically, Scott herself was supposedly asked this question before she was killed)

Klebold responded, "The same God that made you immune to my bullets?"

Cain simply responded by breaking Klebold's neck.

He left the scene and then turned himself in to local law enforcement. According to a police desk sergeant, he walked into the nearest police station to the school and said, "I would like to report an attempted murder."

When asked who was murdered, Cain unnerved the police on the scene by mentioning Rachel Scott by name.

Cain was questioned extensively about how he could've figured out that a shooting was going to happen at Columbine. He claimed to have had a vision of Dylan and Eric attacking the school, which prompted him to track down Dylan and Eric in a bid to stop the attack. He also maintained that he identified Rachel Scott by name because her name was mentioned several times in the vision he'd had prior to the attack.

Cain's testimony became controversial among Christians, especially in light of the Snowden disclosures that would occur years later in 2013.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Russian invasion of Ukraine and Belarus (2002–03)

Post image
11 Upvotes

Russian strongman Alexander Solzhenitsyn considered Ukrainians and Belarusians to be Russians. Therefore, he used the post communist transitions in Ukraine and Belarus as an opportunity to invade them and reintegrate them into his reactionary Russia.

On 27 April 2002, 150,000 Russian troops commanded by Lev Rokhlin invaded the Belarusian Socialist Republic. They captured its capital Hrodna after three days of fighting, and suffered 1,000 casualties versus 37,000 for Belarus, which was formally annexed by Russia on 1 May.

A day after annexing Belarus, Solzhenitsyn invaded Ukraine as well. Russia deployed 474,000 troops backed by 1,500 tanks, 2,600 armoured vehicles, 1,800 artillery pieces, 640 airplanes (mostly the MiG-29 and Su-27), and 275 attack helicopters. Germany condemned the invasion and supplied Ukraine through Hungary, while the United States supported Russia because Ukraine was a German satellite state.

Ukrainian President Oleksandr Moroz and Defence Minister Volodymyr Shkidchenko ordered a general mobilization of the Ukrainian population. Ukraine had one of the strongest militaries in Europe, slowing down Russia's advance considerably; by June, Russia's territorial control was limited to parts of Donbas and the Sumy Oblast.

But Russia had mobilized its much larger economy and military by then, allowing the Russians to go on the offensive the following month. On 26 July, the Russian Army captured Kharkiv, followed on 2 August by the city of Donetsk, on 24 August by Poltava and on 7 September by Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya.

After capturing Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya, Rokhlin crossed the Dnieper, reaching the gates of Kyiv by 16 October. A massive battle broke out; the Russians massively outnumbered and outgunned the Ukrainians, and captured Kyiv on 2 November, forcing Moroz to flee to Lviv.

Ukraine continued to resist for two more months until Lviv fell on 15 January 2003. After the fall of Lviv, Solzhenitsyn officially annexed Ukraine, thus restoring the "All-Russian nation" and boosting the popularity of his declining authoritarian regime. France, Britain, and America almost immediately recognized the annexation of Ukraine.

Unlike Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania stayed in the Vienna Pact in order to protect themselves against a potential Russian invasion. Russia's occupation of Ukraine has seen widespread human rights abuses against the Ukrainian people, as well as a campaign of Russification that forced them to speak Russian and live according to the rules dictated by the Russian government.

These crimes led to increasing international backlash against the Russian occupation, but Russia still controls Belarus, Ukraine, Transcaucasia, and central Asia as of 2026.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Cambodian-Vietnamese War (2002–2006)

Post image
4 Upvotes

On 4 May 2002, ailing Vietnamese leader Ngo Van ordered a full-scale invasion of Cambodia whose goal was to overthrow the anti-Vietnamese Republic of Cambodia led by Sam Rainsy and restore Vietnam's ally the Socialist Republic of Kampuchea (SRK) to power. Germany, Hungary and Laos supported the invasion, while Thailand and China condemned it and sent military aid to the Republic of Cambodia.

Phùng Quang Thanh's more numerous and better armed Vietnamese People's Army fought alongside KPRP loyalists. Near the end of May, Cambodian and Vietnamese communists had encircled Phnom Penh and began shelling the city, which was captured on 2 June. SRK leader Chea Sim was restored to power and launched a purge of Sam Rainsy supporters.

Rainsy and fellow anti-communists Kem Sokha, Eng Chhai Eang, Mu Sochua, and Pol Hom retreated to Cambodia's jungles, from which they launched a guerrilla campaign supported by the United States, Thailand and China, all of whom wanted to weaken Vietnamese influence. China was the Republic of Cambodia's greatest supporter, supplying the Cambodian National Army (CNA) with $4 billion in weapons and taking an aggressive stance in the Paracel Islands dispute.

Later in June, Phùng launched a large offensive in an attempt to crush the guerrillas, but the CNA's greater foreign support allowed it to foil the offensive by August. Eang capitalized on this success to launch an offensive towards Phnom Penh, but the larger and better armed Vietnamese and SRK forces stopped it as well.

For a year and half, the war was a war of attrition where both sides suffered heavy casualties, not just from combat but also from tropical disease. It was also the first conflict to be heavily covered by the internet; Vietnamese and Cambodian bloggers always expressed support for their countries.

On 1 January 2005, Ngo Van died and was succeeded as the leader of Vietnam by Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng continued Ngo Van's wartime policies, but, by the turn of the year, the tide had shifted in favour of the Republic of Cambodia because of the extensive support it received from the USA, Russia, China and Thailand.

By August, the Second Battle of Phnom Penh had begun, pitting 220,000 CNA troops versus 110,000 Vietnamese and 95,000 Kampuchean troops. Eang eventually entered Phnom Penh on 4 September, reducing Kampuchean control to the area east of the Mekong.

Eang, Mu Sochua, and Pol Hom soon crossed the Mekong and captured Kampuchea's acting capital of Jratie on 8 September. After the loss of its last major city, Sim's government began to collapse and eastern Cambodia came under de facto control of the Vietnamese military.

CNA attempts to break through the Vietnamese lines and liberate all of Cambodia were unsuccessful until January 2006, when the CNA's offensive resumed, liberating virtually all of Cambodia by April. Vietnam's citizens had decisively turned against the war, forcing Nguyễn Tấn Dũng to sign a ceasefire on 16 April 2006.

Said ceasefire was followed by the Rangoon Agreements, which forced Vietnam to recognize the Republic of Cambodia.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Gregor Gysi (born 1948)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Gysi had been increasingly unpopular for years, but the rapid loss of Germany's empire turned the KPD leadership against him. Consequently, on 9 May 2002, the Supreme Workers' Council impeached Gysi and elected hardliner Christel Wegner in his place. Wilfried Böse became the Chancellor of Germany, and Johannes Weinrich was elected Speaker of the Supreme Workers' Council.

The Revolutions of 2002 led to the rise of an opposition movement in Germany. Led by Gerhard Schroeder and Guido Westerwelle, the German opposition called for the transformation of Germany into a capitalist democracy allied with the United States.

Wegner's inaugural speech as Chairwoman of the KPD focused on the threat Germany faced from the Revolutions of 2002, and promised to take "decisive action" to protect Germany. Wegner increased military spending and funding for Andreas Baader's Abwehr, and built a wall in the border with France to prevent Germans from fleeing.

Schroeder and Westerwelle were arrested on trumped up charges of corruption and counterrevolutionary activity, and sentenced to 20 and 15 years in prison, respectively. Many other German dissidents went to jail or were gaslit using the real-life Stasi method of decomposition.

Despite being more authoritarian than Gysi, Wegner continued his market socialist economic policies. Furthermore, unions and soviets retained the power they always had, as it was unthinkable for any German leader to reduce it and implement a full dictatorship of the party.

As for Gysi himself, he was not punished but was completely discredited inside Germany. The public perception of him has been highly negative for 24 years, because Germans blame him for the Revolutions of 2002 that greatly reduced German influence worldwide. Gysi has denied the charge that his policies led to the revolutions, blaming "capitalist wreckers" instead. But the majority of Germans do not buy that and continue to say the loss of their satellite states was his fault.

A recent opinion poll found that Gysi is the most unpopular of all leaders of the Free Socialist Republic of Germany: 63% of Germans disapprove of him, 25% are unsure, and just 12% (generally KPD reformists) approve of him.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) 2012 United States Presidential Election (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

The 2012 United States presidential election took place on November 8, 2012. Voters turned out to elect the President and the Vice President of the United States.

The GOP ticket of Saul Conklin, former Senator of Arizona, and Phillip Graves, former United States Marine Corps officer turned Senator of Missouri, defeated the Democratic ticket of Floyd Charles, former Senator of Illinois and Calgar Sirin, former governor of New York.

Conklin and Graves both ran on a platform of aggressive military and economic reforms. Conklin advocated for an economic model based on the tenets of Right Wing Accelerationism, believing that Capitalism could be used to enact radical sociopolitical change if done right.

He also advocated for military reform, more specifically a push to limit military intervention in foreign wars.

Conklin also was a staunch opponent of the Patriot Act, believing it was a government inside job that collectively condemned innocent people on a whim and that the Founding Fathers would be outraged at the law. He therefore vowed to repeal it if he won office.

In addition, he also vowed to overturn Roe v. Wade, peddling a controversial narrative that the Patriot Act and Roe v. Wade had been somehow connected. During one campaign rally, he claimed, “They gave you the invented right to abortion! Now they intend to spy on you so that you can’t stop it!”

Conklin won the election in a landslide, helped in part by the conspiracy theory he helped to promote, which claimed that the Patriot Act was an “evolution” of Roe v. Wade intended to ensure attempts to restrict or abolish abortion would be met with “state sanctioned violence.”

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Revolutions of 2002 (1999–2002)

It is usually believed the revolutions began on 13 March 1999, when the Działanie (Action) union led by Marian Krzaklewski launched a general strike against the Polish Socialist Republic. During the next three years, opposition to the Polish regime continued to grow, forcing leader Tadeusz Kowalik to hold a free and fair general election in December 2001. Działanie won the election by a comfortable margin.

The pro-democracy movement soon spread to Lithuania, Slovakia and Czechia. On 13 January 2002, Slovak Premier Jozef Migaš resigned, culminating in free general elections that ended in a victory for Mikuláš Dzurinda's opposition coalition. But the Hungarian Soviet Republic responded to the election by invading and occupying Slovakia, preventing the country from democratizing.

Czechia and Lithuania's communist regimes collapsed by the beginning of February. Germany refused to invade these countries because Gregor Gysi was a reformist; this lack of a response caused the Estonian communist regime to fall on 12 February and the Latvian one four days later.

As the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Denmark and Norway had only become communist due to German occupation, their communist regimes similarly fell on 26 February, 2 March, 4 March, 6 March, and 15 March, respectively; the Dutch, Belgian, Danish and Norwegian communist parties reformed themselves into social democratic parties, leaving Germany, Italy, Hungary, Ukraine and Belarus as the only communist states in Europe.

Belarusian Premier Yefrem Sokolov was forced to resign on 4 April. He was replaced with reformist Vyacheslav Kebich, who restored civil liberties after 80 years of dictatorship and began gradual economic reforms, but the opposition still won the free Belarusian elections.

After months of clashes between protestors and the Ukrainian secret police, President Leonid Kravchuk was forced to resign on 26 April, making Oleksandr Moroz Ukraine's new president. A day later, Russian leader Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn took advantage of Ukraine and Belarus's chaos to invade them. They were eventually annexed into Russia.

On 4 May 2002, Austria held a free and fair general election won by the Socialist Party of Austria of Alfred Gusenbauer, who reformed the regime quickly and well enough to prevent an opposition victory. Eurocommunist Italy lasted until 27 June, when liberal Francesco Rutelli became Premier – making Germany and Hungary the only Marxist states in Europe; they're still in power as of October 2026.

Outside of Europe, socialist governments in Peru, Somalia, Cambodia, India, Madagascar and Benin were either overthrown or lost reelection. Vietnam subsequently invaded Cambodia to keep puppet leader Chea Sim in power, triggering a massive guerrilla war against insurgents backed by the United States and Thailand.

As of 12 October 2026, there are twelve communist countries in the world: Germany, Hungary, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Angola, Mozambique, Cuba, Guinea Bissau, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, São Tomé e Príncipe. Capitalism is the world's dominant ideology, but its dominance is not overwhelming.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Operation Corvinus (2002)

By 2002, Slovakia had been a Hungarian puppet state for 82 years, and the vast majority of Hungarians wanted Slovakia to remain under Hungary's control. Thus, on 12 January 2002, the National Assembly of Soviets unanimously voted to authorize "Operation Corvinus", a full-scale invasion of Slovakia.

At 08:00 on 13 January 2002, 36 Eurofighter Typhoon multirole fighters jammed the Slovak military's radars, renting the Slovaks any warning of the coming invasion. Two hours later, 163,000 Hungarian troops armed with G36 rifles invaded Slovakia. They were backed by 142 Leopard 2 tanks, 150 Marder IFVs and 42 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers.

Slovak Red Army chief of staff Milan Cerovský ordered his forces to resist the Hungarian invasion, counting on support from the United States and Poland. But the invaders captured the city of Zilina a day after the invasion, attacked Bratislava on 15 January, and captured the city at 14:00 on 16 January, whereupon a hardline communist government was restored.

Hungarian Army chief of general staff Lajos Fodor occupied Slovakia until July. Hungarian troops tried and executed the leaders of the Slovak Revolution of 2002, and placed the hardline communists back in power. By July, Slovakia's status quo had been restored, and Slovak sovereignty was restored.

Slovak nationalists led by Marián Andel launched a resistance movement against the Hungarian occupation. Fodor's occupation troops violently crushed it, causing an influx of refugees into neighbouring Poland, Czechia and Ukraine and prompting US President Pete Wilson to impose sanctions on Hungary on 2 February 2002. Germany, India and China refused to comply with the sanctions and continued to trade with Hungary, but they caused the Hungarian economy to decline and spurred separatist movements in Croatia and Transylvania.

Imre Pozsgay was pragmatic enough to reform Hungary from a market socialist economy into a Nordic-style social democratic system. Consequently, the Hungarian Soviet Republic never collapsed and successfully defended Hungary's natural borders, crushing the secessionists.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Chadian–Libyan War (1983–1997)

Post image

France opposed the Libyan invasion of Chad because Chad was on the French sphere of influence (Françafrique), but the United States greenlighted the invasion and supplied Libya with weapons, as the Americans were upset that slain Chadian leader François Tombalbaye was a pan-African socialist.

As Tombalbaye was heavily unpopular, Chadians initially hailed the Libyan invaders as saviours, but everything changed when their puppet leader, Ahmed Hassan Musa, imposed Sharia law. Chadian Christians strongly opposed Islamization and formed the Armed Forces of the South (FAS) to resist it.

On 4 June 1983, FAS commanders Félix Malloum and Abdelkader Kamougué rose up against the Libyans with extensive French support. By the end of the year, the FAS controlled all of southern Chad other than its capital Fort-Lamy, which remained in Islamist and Libyan hands.

Libya's presence in Chad was the only factor keeping Musa in power, because the FAS spent 13 years trying and failing to capture Fort-Lamy. Musa attempted to turn his military, the Islamic Army of Chad (AIT) into a more conventional army, but the United States soon stopped supporting the Libyan invasion and becoming neutral, foiling this plan.

Despite the USA's shift towards neutrality, Libya continued to occupy Chad and support the northern, Arab and Islamic factions against the southern, black and Christian ones. By 1993, Libya had 75,000 troops stationed in Chad; this force also included 42 M60 Patton tanks, 27 Mi-24 attack helicopters, and 72 M113 personnel carriers, and was backed by 34 F-5 and MiG-23 aircraft. Chad soon became a quagmire for Libya, because French support for the FAS stopped the Libyans from crushing it, no matter how much they tried.

In October 1995, FAS General Idriss Déby inflicted a major defeat on Libya and the AIT at the Battle of Goundi, killing 2,000 Libyans and capturing 118 tons of Libyan weapons. The defeat at Goundi greatly increased opposition to the war in Libya, and allowed the FAS to go on the offensive; by mid-1996, the FAS controlled half of Chad.

Déby would later cross the 16th parallel in August. By November, almost all of Chad was in the FAS's hands and the Libyan puppet government had capitulated, but Libya heavily fortified the Aouzou strip, making it almost impossible for the Chadians to liberate it. Thus, Chadian President Abdelkader Kamougué and King Hasan as-Senussi signed a ceasefire on 10 January 1997, ending the war.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | 1996 United States presidential election

President Jerry Brown was widely seen by voters as unreasonable and fringe, especially for attempting to implement a flat tax and abolish the department of education. Some of his policies, such as protectionism and tax credits for the healthcare costs of people who weren't smokers or alcoholics, were popular, but they were overshadowed by his eccentricities and failures.

Given this, the 1996 Republican primaries had a crowded field. California Governor Pete Wilson won the nomination, making this the first presidential election since 1904 when both major party nominees were from the same state. He chose Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter as his running mate.

Wilson emphasized how the economy of California had recovered from a recession during his governorship, and his other accomplishments, such as making market-based, unsubsidized health coverage available for employees of small businesses, and reforming education.

Brown brought up how he had ended the Nicaragua War and protected American manufacturing, but his image as "President Moonbeam" was indelible by that point, and Vice President Bob Kerrey was accused of committing war crimes during the 1960s Congo War. Kerrey denied the accusations and Brown did not drop him from the ticket, but voters believed them to be true, hurting Brown's campaign even further.

Despite all of these handicaps, Brown won the first presidential debate by successfully criticizing Wilson's deregulation of the Californian energy industry. Wilson failed to defend this decision, making the majority of voters believe Brown was a winner and giving the president a boost in the polls.

With two fiscally conservative major party nominees, Ralph Nader gained unusual momentum for a third party candidate. Nader promised universal healthcare, a noninterventionist foreign policy, greater environmental protection, and nuclear control treaties with the Free Socialist Republic of Germany, appealing to many student and environmentalist voters.

Brown's surge in the polls near the end of the campaign proved not to be enough, because Wilson won the election with 316 electoral votes and 49% of the vote versus 222 electoral votes and 46% of the vote for Brown and 0 electoral votes and 3% of the vote for Nader.

As the party switch never happened, Brown won all southern states other than suburban Virginia and Florida, while New Hampshire was Wilson's strongest state. As a constitutional amendment limiting US presidents to two terms had been ratified in 1995, Wilson became the first President to be term limited.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Operation Cicada: The Supersoldier Project that started it all (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

Post image

Operation Cicada (Russian: Цикада) was a Soviet military project aimed at creating super soldiers through performance enhancing drugs and mind control.

During the late 1970s and well into the 1980s, the Soviet Union and the KGB were in an arms and intelligence race with the United States and the CIA. The Soviet Union managed to recruit Doctor Felix Wagner, a former Nazi scientist, to help them advance their intelligence warfare by training a new type of spy and assassin, the Cicada. Over the years Meisner managed to develop a regimen with a mix of physical abuse, performance enhancing drugs, and psychedelic drug dosages that would wipe away a candidate's memory and leave them susceptible to hypnotic triggers, such as an image, word, or sound, but typically a song.

In this fashion, Cicadas could have their old lives wiped away and replaced with an appropriate cover story that they would believe unreservedly. They would be incapable of revealing secrets as they would literally not remember any, and could go into deep cover so completely that even they would think that their cover lives were entirely real.
When needed however, hypnotic triggers could be used to resurface some of their memories, just enough to follow commands obediently and to apply the ingrained skills they needed to complete the operations. This process was referred to as "waking" the Cicadas up from their cover lives, and would allow far flung assets to carry out missions in strategic areas.

After the missions were completed, they would return to “sleep” and go back to their cover stories.
The Americans and the British learned of the project through an escaped British POW that was taken prisoner during a reconnaissance operation that went wrong in Vietnam. Intrigued, they decided to reverse engineer the project for its own ends.
Operation Cicada was effectively shut down after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.

The American counterpart to the project was Operation Silver Lake, one of many different projects undertaken by the British and the Americans. The British counterpart was codenamed Operation Greenwood.

Contemporary AH (2000–2026) Operation Feral Trinity (Pax Sanguinis Universe)

Post image

Context: The Pax Sanguinis Universe is an alternate timeline of human history in which groundbreaking technological innovations in the late 1980s lead to the creation of real life supersoldiers.

In 2013, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed thousands of classified NSA documents to journalists Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras, Barton Gellman, and Ewen MacAskill. His disclosures revealed numerous global surveillance programs, many run by the NSA and the Five Eyes intelligence alliance with the cooperation of telecommunications companies and European governments.

Snowden’s disclosures also exposed what was supposed to be a top secret supersoldier project that was intended to revolutionize warfare.

Operation Feral Trinity was the codename referring to a top secret supersoldier that saw the resurrection of multiple Bible characters in a bid to turn them into supersoldiers. The first two successful test subjects were Cain, son of Adam and Eve and the first murderer, and his brother Abel, the first homicide victim.

Cain, codenamed “Asset 01”, was described as a male human of Arabic or Middle Eastern descent in his early thirties. He claimed to have had a photographic memory, which was corroborated in video footage of interviews with Cain following his resurrection. He was found to know 800 languages and, at one point, he was recorded to have memorized an 800 page dictionary.

In the video footage, Abel was revealed to have been a lean Semitic human in his late 20s while he was alive. He possessed primitive features, a wide nose, strong jaw, crooked, thin, and angular teeth, long matted stringy black hair, gray eyes, and tone olive skin

Cain was later outfitted with cybernetic implants, alongside his brother.

The Snowden disclosures also included video footage of Cain and Abel conducting acts of violence that would clearly violate international law. Examples included, but were not limited to:

  • Video footage of Cain being interviewed about the murder of his brother by the CIA.
  • Video footage of Cain publicly executing Saddam Hussein in 2005.
  • Helmet camera footage of Abel killing Osama bin Laden in 2011 by beheading him with an unusually large sword.

Cain and Abel were not the only named individuals in the Snowden Disclosures pertaining to Operation Feral Trinity. Other named individuals included the Biblical judges Samson and Deborah, and the mighty hunter Nimrod. The disclosures revealed at least 20 individuals were resurrected as part of Operation Feral Trinity, but the disclosures themselves only named five for reasons unknown.

The Snowden disclosures would go down in history as one of the most controversial whistleblowing stunts in US history, thanks to its massive implications regarding the public's understanding regarding warfare, international law, and scientific ethics.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Vaino Väljas (1931–2024)

Post image

On 6 August 1996, the National People's Assembly (Rahvuslik Rahvakogu), Estonia's unicameral parliament elected by workers' councils rather than by popular vote, impeached Premier Gustav Naan and Chairman Bruno Saul, who were viewed as too closely tied to Germany, and elected Foreign Minister Vaino Väljas to both offices.

As a national communist, Väljas sought to assert Estonia's independence at a time where the German bloc was clearly declining. To this end, he established direct trade relations with the United States in 1997, and obtained several loans from the US, UK and France that were used to improve Tallinn and Tartu's infrastructure and expand the Estonian Red Army (Eesti Punaarmee).

German leaders Gregor Gysi, Egon Krenz and Lothar Bisky did not try to stop that, because they were on the reformist side of the KPD – in contrast to the hardline Baader-Meinhof gang – and Estonia showed no signs of leaving the Vienna Pact or the Mitteleuropa trade bloc in order to avoid getting annexed by Russia again.

During the late 1990s, discontent with German hegemony grew massively across Europe, including Estonia, where Mart Laar and Tiit Vähi founded "Free Estonia", an anti-communist, pro-democracy movement. Väljas did not take this rise in opposition seriously, and refused to do any reforms that could please the opposition.

Throughout 2001, Free Estonia grew increasingly bold and its membership rose to 42,000, forcing Väljas to order crack down on the movement. Estonia's secret police arrested 10,000 "enemies of the people" and sentenced them to prison for counterrevolutionary activities, but a full-scale democratic revolution eventually broke out on 28 January 2002.

Väljas attempted to negotiate with the protestors, but it was too late; on 4 February, the Rahvuslik Rahvakogu impeached him as Premier and elected social democrat Andres Tarand. The Communist Party of Estonia renamed itself to the Socialist Party of Estonia (Eesti Sotsialistlik Partei) and became social democratic, ending six decades of communist rule in Estonia.

Tarand gave Väljas and other former Estonian leaders amnesty for any crimes they committed in office, so Estonians could "move on" from the communist era. Väljas became a founding member of the "Left for Estonia" neo-communist party, but he never ran in any democratic election, and died peacefully on 16 January 2024.

Few people mourned Väljas's death, and he has a negative historical reputation due to the economic stagnation and repression of his rule. Even communist nostalgics hate him and prefer earlier leaders.

20th Century AH (1901–2000) Red Black Eagle, White Bear | Gheorghe Apostol (1913–2010)

By the time communist Romanian leader Paul Georgescu died on 15 October 1989, Apostol had been the deputy prime minister of Romania since 1961 – a year before communist Romania's founder Panait Istrati died – and served under the tenures of Istrati and his successors David Korner and Georgescu.

Apostol's inaugural speech focused on the Transylvania dispute and the need to negotiate for Hungary to implement a condominium over the territory. Shortly after taking power, Apostol attempted to start these negotiations, but Hungarian leader Imre Pozsgay refused, considering Hungary's borders to be non-negotiable. This was a major blow to Apostol.

Furthermore, the economy of Romania stagnated during Apostol's leadership because of a fall in oil prices, the low productivity of Romanian workers, and broader structural problems, such as a decentralized planning system at the local level that was increasingly outdated. Apostol carried only minor reforms to the Romanian economy, making him fairly unpopular as time went on.

Apostol did have his share of achievements, such as making Romania a full German ally after decades of closer relations with Eurocommunist Italy; and enacting controls on air and water pollution, but they were overshadowed by his failures, making Romania one of the most unpopular Vienna Pact regimes.

As Apostol failed to either improve Romania's economy or restore its natural borders, the Romanian workers' councils turned against him, culminating in his impeachment on 22 February 1995. The Great National Assembly elected Ilie Verdeț to be the new general secretary of the Romanian Communist Party.

Verdet implemented some much needed economic reforms, modernizing the economy without harming the power of councils, who were the basis of Luxembourgism. Romania's economy eventually recovered, but the regime's popularity continued to decrease, culminating in the peaceful overthrow of the Communist regime in the Revolutions of 2002.

After the fall of communism, Apostol was tried for overseer the torture and murder of Romanian dissidents, but he was acquitted due to his old age and ill health, and he died peacefully on 21 August 2010. Most Romanians do not remember him fondly, except for Communist nostalgists.
