I work retail. The amount of customers who do this and try to ask me a question at the same time. It's incredibly rude and I don't even answer them anymore. Feels like I'm being recorded or something lol. I just point in the direction of what they were asking after.

The next level above that is when they play videos or music on said speakerphone, also disturbingly common. And then the next level above that is someone playing loud bass from their vehicle. Urban noise pollution has gotten out of control. 10 years ago it wasn't like this.

I 100% take offence to this... i am a witch and would never EVER walk around on speaker phone in public, that irritates tf out of me when people do. They're probably entitled conservative christians who don't think they need to respect anyone else's boundaries.

Apology accepted, there are bad "witches" for sure (although those of us in the religion would never accept them as one of us) and they would probably do that. Entitled people with no sense of other people really upset me

I use AirPods in public in adaptive mode so I can hear my notifications and listen to my own music while being able to function as if I don’t have anything in my ears. It’s not hard. Conversation in public while on headphones has always been awkward to me but at least they are talking at a normal volume, not yelling at full volume and holding it in front of their face as a dramatic display.

I don’t mind interjecting when someone is being rude to the person they are talking to in public. You can stand up for others and call out bullying as an adult. Not everyone is going to fight you or shoot you.

As irritating as it is, it’s not something that’s going to change any time soon.

Edit: it’s a tad amusing that I’m getting downvoted for stating this when I actually agree the OP - this behaviour is very irritating. However, I’ve noticed more and more people are doing it (and justifying it) and because of so, I don’t see this behaviour changing anytime soon.
