MOD STUFF Grey's Anatomy Returns October 15th - Rule & Etiquette Refresher

Hello all,

With the premiere happening tomorrow I just wanted to take the time to remind you that the premiere is happening tomorrow :)

Also I wanted to go over a few things that we with common sense know, but just a reminder on rules and customs. If anything is on this list that isn't in the official rules it will be soon.

Please keep any posts about the newest episode in the stickied discussion thread

This is in particular common with low-effort posts. A character will do something out of pocket or unexpected and we'll get 12 posts saying "REALLY?" about one singular action. Let me be clear, we don't expect every post and comment to be high-brow analysis, but give it some effort. If that's all your post is, then it needs to be a comment. We reserve the right to remove these as needed.

If you see a post that has this issue and hasn't been removed, please report it Moderators do not go patrolling the streets of /r/greysanatomy like you may think. If you report it it will alert us and we will look at it asap. Also, we may leave it up if we feel it is appropriate to do so.

Be Nice to each other Not much to say. Pretend they're sitting across the table from you usually solves that problem.

Explicit spoilers in the title

Just a refresher on this. Don't say explicit spoilers in the title. Just had to ban someone for this a moment ago. This applies to ALL spoilers - even something from season 1. We understand that an old spoiler may be old news, but it's really not that hard to figure out how to word something that doesn't say an exact spoiler in the title.

Have fun everyone and enjoy the premiere!

EPISODE DISCUSSION Season 23 Premiere! S23E1: Collide Live Discussion Post Spoiler

Welcome to season 23!!! As always, this discussion post will go live an hour prior to the episode official airtime. All spoilers are allowed for previous seasons, but if you obtained early access to the episode please don’t spoil it early. Please keep all discussion of the premiere to this post until Saturday, then separate posts are free game as long as the titles are nonspoilery.

EDIT: I prepped this post last week, and at that time I found information about a season break from Nov-March in multiples places. More recent articles do not reflect this, so it may not be accurate. I will update as further information is posted. For now we will consider it null and void.

RJ Decker is (bizarrely) doing quite well, so it seems Nick appearances will be limited. No word on how much Meredith we can expect.

Catch back up by checking out the discussion post for S22 finale Like a Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Original airdate: October 15th, 2026

Directed by: Debbie Allen, the wicked Catherine Avery we all love to hate

Episode summary: After a collision at Sea-Tac sends a surge of critically injured patients to Grey Sloan, the unveiling of its controversial new VIP floor is thrown into chaos as doctors race to save lives amid impossible choices.

Song title inspiration: Collide by Howie Day

Episode Trailer on YouTube

Skip ahead to next week’s episode Slippin’ and Slidin’.

Episode summary for next week: As Bailey adjusts to student life, she and Blue respond to a fraternity hazing mishap; Meredith juggles Boston and Seattle as she advocates for a young patient; Amelia and Toni support Jo.

Neurosurgery, trauma, pediatrics, cardiothoracic surgery… every specialty comes with its own challenges. If you could work at Grey Sloan Memorial, which department would you choose, and why?

Inexcusable and creepy…Alex as well. And I’m a staunch Alexi fan.

-EDIT-

Guys. She’s an underage high school student. We’re all okay to just excuse/allow/praise that? I love the downvotes 🤍🤍🤍

-second to edit-

Hope a lot of y’all don’t end up experiencing your high school kids having creeps make those kinds of comments 🤍🤍🤍

Arizona thinks Derek feels “guilty”

Post image
76 Upvotes

Can we talk for two seconds about the GALL Arizona has to call Derek “guilty and egomaniacal” about wanting to go along with CALLIE’S idea to buy the hospital?!

She’s saying it’s “affecting her family” but two mins before this she literally tells Callie she should’ve talked about it with her before bringing it to the group. It was HER WIFES idea in the first got damn place.

and i’m not even gonna get into the fact that she is continually trying to “call people out” when she’s the first to run at any confrontation. That she’s supposedly worrying about decisions “affecting her family” when in a few episodes she’s going to cheat on her gd wife and completely destroy it from being selfish and guilty her own gd self. What a total hypocrite!

SPOILERS I hate Maggie

I know this is everybody’s take and I see it coming up all the time. Every time she comes on the screen or every time there is a situation she just pisses me off. I just finished the episode where it was after Derek died and Meredith leaves for Boston and is MIA for a year or so. Maggie feels like she’s been abandoned like seriously. She’s so annoying

My gf got seasons 1-7 free off marketplace! One thing we thought was quite odd was the season one box set says Season Son on the side. I thought they may of been pirated disc's but the internet tells me its a legit typo that happened.

Pretty cool!

Lexie’s photographic memory wasn’t used nearly as much as it should have been

I think Lexie is a pretty well-written character but one thing that I don’t like about the way the writers did her story is that her photographic memory should have gotten utilized way more and she should have been a better surgeon than most of the residents and attendings for that matter. It seems like her memory is pretty dead on, so much so that she basically admitted that she skated her way through Harvard Med School because of it. She’s basically Mike Ross if he was a female doctor (if anyone of you guys have seen Suits). So then why did she not know how to do very basic things in the beginning of the show? Why did she not notice that one guy’s faulty signature when she did his brain scan in that one episode in season 7? Like I get that she’s an intern in the beginning so she obviously needs experience but she should have been able to remember every surgical procedure she read about step by step, every book that she read explaining how to perform procedures, every single thing she had ever watched on TV regarding surgery. She’s basically an endless barrel of information. And she should have been able to use her photographic memory to rank up quicker and get to the top higher because of it.

Sandra Oh

God she is phenomenal, I’m currently rewatching Grey’s and I am up to the point where they make her work on Henry without letting her know. Her reaction to Owen telling her genuinely gives me goosebumps, I honestly think it’s on par with Teddy’s. The second everyone starts slowly reacting to Henry dying and she’s standing there talking about the surgery, you just know it’s going to be bad. This whole episode is so insane, in a good way.

SPOILERS Both Teddy and Owen should have been fired.

Season 8, when Cristina has to operate on Teddy's husband WITHOUT KNOWING ITS HIM. Thats a serious violation oh my god. Then Teddy tortures her by having her repeat over and over how the surgery went. THAT IS ABSURD. The only person who did something about it was April.
THAT WAS SO DOWNPLAYED!!!!

DISCUSSION Missing a certain character! :(

has anyone else been missing Mika Yasuda in the recent seasons? I don't know I just feel so unsatisfied by her character's exit, and the new intern group just hasn't felt right since she left. I think it's upsetting because of how much drive she had to be a surgeon, and then she just quit (rightfully so but, it's pretty devastating). I could totally see her coming back at some point (wishful thinking). I love Midori Francis as an actress too, I thought she was the best actor of the new interns and it was a bummer when she left. Her character was just so charming too. Am i the only one who misses her??

DISCUSSION Grey’s fans, if Mark and Lexie would’ve survived the plane, do you guys think they would’ve end up together?

Witjout being biased, do you guys actually think they would’ve ended up together if they were alive?
So as a huge Slexie stan, I really love their story and I wished they stayed alive but I really dont think they wouldve ultimately end up together. They broke up in like season 6 and then never spoke until the last 2 episodes of season 8 where Lexie confesses her love and Mark was dating the other girl (if I remember correctly), also a lot of people have said that they were 2 people searching for 2 different things and thats lowkey true.
