"A lot of stuff happened in the Panhandle; it was a very active place. It wasn't hard to get permission from the city to have a gathering there. It's a wonderful spot. At the Artists Liberation Front Free Fair in the Panhandle, the Dead had a stage.  They advertised and half of San Francisco came to that one. It spilled out into the streets on both sides. It was a really good-sized crowd there. Luckily they had gotten a good sound system for that concert to. So it was actually bouncing off the buildings in the background. It was pretty loud--loud and good.  The band really played hard for that one, 'cause there were so many people there."

Adam Katz Murder Investigation: FBI Files -- 10 pages from my FOIA request

As the 37th anniversary passed this week, I thought I'd share some information. It took me three years to obtain these files -- 215 pages in all.

I was at the show the night Adam died in 1989. I didn't know him, but I've never forgotten his face from the flyers and business cards distributed in the parking lot in 1990.

Jim Matchett - Tape Trader Death

Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Jim and I partners to create the "Grateful Dead Tape Exchange of South Jersey." We traded with a lot of people over the years, including Dick Latvala, Jerry Moore, Barry Glassberg, Monte Dym, Bob Alson, and a bunch of others.

I am not sure if anyone here ever traded with Jim, but I wanted to pass the news that he died this morning. He had Parkinson's for several years but it really started to take its toll a few months ago. He had to go into assisted living about a month ago and died this morning.

I knew Jim since we were both in high school more than 52 years ago. We had a lot of fun together and met a lot of people all through the Dead and trading tapes. His death is the end of a big part of my life.

Just finished up some dead tombstones for the front yard, second generation dead head (f31) and I made these while listening to some Dave picks CDs with dad (66m) 💛 he’s currently in hospice with stage 4 pancreatic cancer so anything to make him smile, these got a good chuckle out of him. Happy Halloween my friends 🥀

Can we give Pigpen the damn respect that he deserves?

I never see him mentioned as an important part of the band. He was the OG frontman. When none of them had the ability or courage to lead them, he did it. He held down the throne until Jerry was ready. He lead during the formative years. Without him, there probably ISN'T a Grateful Dead.

People always clamor about Brent and Keith, but what about Pigpen? The guy was an absolute blues machine. I feel like he really doesn't get enough respect and credit around here. Put some fucking respect on this man's name! You rock, Pigpen!

Best post Brent shows?

I have largely ignored anything the dead has done in the 90s post Brent. Are there any shows you would recommend listening to from the 90s?

Following the 2000 election, Bobby said, "If every Dead Head in Florida had voted..."

Post image

Following that incredibly close election when Bush won in Florida by a handful of votes and the country watched as judges weighed whether or not a hanging bit of paper was a vote or disqualified as not fully detached... Bobby weighed in, saying "If every Dead Head in Florida had voted, there would have been a Gore presidency instead of the first Bush term. Well, here we are again and while this isn't a presidential election, the results will deeply affect everyone so please make sure you vote. Whether you like a "D" or an "R" next to your choice, please don't be uncounted or absent. Make your choice count!
