Looking into masters program in criminal justice

Hey everyone,
I am looking into the **Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ)** program at **Lamar University** and wanted to get some honest feedback from current students or alumni.
If you’ve gone through the program (or are in it now), I’d love to know:
**Coursework & Pace:** How manageable is the workload, especially if balancing it with a full-time job?
**Faculty & Support:** Are the professors responsive and supportive in the online format?
**Career Impact:** Do you feel the degree has helped you advance your career or open up new opportunities?
**Overall Value:** Would you choose Lamar again if you had to do it over?
Any insights, tips, or general advice on the program would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance!

Master's in Psychology - ROI, job market

Hi folks,

Wanted to ask what most people found of their ROI in their Master's in this job market (Canada based)?

Despite all my course work, high GPA, poster presentations, manuscript work (two first author projects underway, with potentially more coming through), giving a funded talk at a conference, and incoming thesis track, I am struggling to find employment in research fields - I have been applying for a while and the response rate has been very low (despite tailoring resumes/CVs to each role/lab, AND reaching out to the PI where applicable). I'm not sure why I'm not getting more traction, It is brutal out here, and I'm really disappointed the degree is seemingly getting me no where.

Has this degree improvement anyone's employment options truly? All I am trying to do at this stage is work in hospitals/academic research settings in psychology but it seems impossible right now in this market. I'm really dejected because it's a lot of time, energy, and finances put into this rigourous multi-year program.

Starting a masters then putting it on pause?

Thinking of starting a Masters but applied to law school.. if I get in I’d go to law school next summer. The MA starts in January a semester before potential law school. Is it possible to start a masters, then pause and not enroll in the remaining semesters, but return back where you left off at a later time period? Or would you just have to drop out?

Starting MSNS-RDN program

I have a bachelors in Nutrition & food science from 2021. I have decided to start a MSNS-RDN coordinated program that includes the masters and internship. I haven’t been in school for years and now have a 2 year old toddler.
I feel like i spent most of my undergrad surviving instead of learning.. so I have forgotten lots of info. i really want to do well in the program but i also feel like i don’t really know how to study effectively.

I will not have to work and my kid will be in school full time, but i am still the primary/default parent & will likely have to do most things for him myself. As well as taking care of the home, cooking, laundry, etc

How rigorous was your program and how did you prepare for the rd exam?

What is some advice you have on studying and time management? Especially with a kid

Also taking all advice on DICAS and personal statements, as i am beginning that process as well

Are PhDs worth it? depends

I did a PhD in CS. Here is what I would have loved people telling me about it:

  • You work 60 hour weeks for poverty pay.
  • Your advisor's name goes on your papers he becomes famous not you. Your results become the preliminary data for their next grant. That grant pays your replacement.
  • It is a zero sum game and your advisor always wins. They get papers, grants, tenure, prestige. You get a line on your CV and then leave academia.
  • The above really only works if your advisor is actually famous. The whole system compounds upward. Grants go to people who already have grants. Faculty jobs go to students of famous advisors. It feels like a pyramid scheme tbh.
  • Meanwhile, your friends with a bachelors degree are in industry building actual careers, gaining real skills, raises, 401k matching and having some semblance of an actual life. You are getting sick from stress and bad sleep, on garbage health insurance, saving nothing for retirement.
  • Then it ends. You are 30 with a paper nobody read. No savings, no career, no kids, years behind everyone you started with. Your twenties went by inside a lab.
  • You finally get a job in big tech and nobody really respects you. You are the guy that knows python but not much of anything else. Engineers with two to three years experience not only know to code better than you, they also have a better understanding of corporate America. AI may change all this though....

For me, this was the only way to go upwards in the socioeconomic ladder so maybe I should not complain much? On the other hand, if I had the money back then I would have gotten a masters degree and done not all this PhD nonsense.

What was your PhD like?

Are there any fully funded master's programs in Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, or Information Systems?

Hi everyone!
I'm currently considering pursuing a master's degree before eventually applying for a PhD, although I'm also open to going straight into a PhD program. My biggest concern is funding.
I've done some research, but I've noticed that universities don't always clearly advertise all their funding opportunities. For example, my bachelor's degree was fully covered by my university, but if you looked at their website, you wouldn't find much information about that opportunity.
That's why I'm hoping to get some insight from people who have firsthand experience or know of programs that offer full tuition scholarships or, ideally, full funding (tuition + living stipend).
I'm particularly interested in programs related to:
Statistics
Data Science
Business Analytics
Information Systems
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
My long-term goal is to pursue a PhD, especially in an area related to human-technology interaction. However, I'd really like to explore my research interests through a master's program first before committing to a PhD.
Does anyone know of universities that offer fully funded master's programs in these fields? I'd especially appreciate hearing about programs where funding might be available through research assistantships, teaching assistantships, or scholarships that aren't widely advertised.
Any recommendations or personal experiences wouk V greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Second- degree for conversion master in psychology

So I'm from art background and communications technology and arts, I wanted to eventually get into research or academia for the niche of psychology of creativity . Because I lack the foundational education in psychology I'm thinking either to go back for a second degree, or just roll in one of those conversion courses. What will prepare me better for a PhD eventually because time does matter progress does matter doing a Master my speed doctor process I was thinking like because I love the Foundation and might as well go back and really do the foundational knowledge before I move on for the research.

Work & Study

Hey y'all! Most search results on this topic are AI advertisement slop galore, so I wanted to see some real, human perspective

Are there any legitimate programs/companies out there that will fund your studies (specifically, a master's) as you work for them? My background is in pharmaceuticals if that helps

If there are any, could there be any barriers to securing a position? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Fully funded grad schools exist ?

I’m interested in doing my MBA+MPH but with stipends, high scholarship, TA assistantships, fellowships, etc, (since the big beautiful bill, i dont feel comfortable taking out much loans except the 20,500 limit from FAFSA)

Please advise any good universities thatd likely offer a full ride! I have a 3.5 GPA & 6+ yrs experience in project management field (preferably healthcare or technology but anywhere thatd land me a job at this point). I also have much volunteer experience as well.

I’d rather do it in person (family is toxic and wont support) my dream is living in san diego but i know its expensive so im okay with anywhere until i can settle in California..anyone have any good recs on where i can go with high employment rates after graduation and potentially a full ride or half a full ride? Maybe suggest schools thatd allow me to negotiate as well?

I’ve been doing my own research but would love to hear from anyone and their suggestions too.

Phd applications for biomedical sciences in US

I really want to apply for a bbs phd program in the US and need help navigating what universities to apply to and where my profile fits or what are my chances. I really want to apply to my dream schools but also want to be realistic and strategize my application. Ik my profile is not nearly as competitive as the schools i want to apply to or even any mid-tier program so i am really confused as to what universities should I apply to as an international student.

My profile is - BSc Microbiology: 8.70 CGPA

MSc Biochemistry: 6.7 CGPA

Research experience: primarily MSc dissertation where I did animal cell culture based work and biochemical assays.

No publications

Scientific interests: molecular mechanisms of disease, translational molecular medicine, molecular pharmacology & physiology, cell/cancer biology, immunology.

considering grad school

Currently in my third year of college (technically. Transferred from CC to 4 year and this is my first year here)

I have my AA and am in my first year for my major (Computer Science). My university has a program that lets you start your first year of grad school in your last year of your Bachelor's degree (me next year), however I will have to apply soon.

Im debating majors in my grad school.

My current options right now according to my interest

- Computer science (further study)

- Economics (Most interested)

- A.I (Most interested)

- Biology (Very interested)

I am not really looking forward to studying Computer science outside of my undergrad due to wanting to learn other topics. Economics is easily my number one interest, A.I is my number one interest and its related to my undergrad, Biology is another topic I am interested in.

I am curious if its worth it to study outside of my field for Masters, and if anyone has done anything similar. What would I do with a Undergrad in CS, a MS in Economics. Undergrad in CS and MS in A.I? What are jobs in AI in general?

Any advice please I am very lost and I did not realize how many people did not study Computer science until I was already in school and all I get when I explain to people is "OH yOu WiLl mAkE a LOt oF mOney" like thats all a CS degree is good for.

I am looking towards working with police working in

- Digital Forsenics

And other jobs such as

- Working on LLMS (though thats more of a hobby sort of deal over a corporate deal)

- Are there any military CS jobs?

- Sound, lights engieering

- Any jobs similar?

Looking for advice on where to start after being in industry for over 3 years.

Hello all, I am looking for advice on where to begin with potentially going to grad school in meteorology. A little bit of background I am someone who went to a solid school and achieved a solid GPA in CS, and have worked in the defense industry for about 3.5 years. I have honestly found myself fairly unhappy with the work I have been doing and honestly I do not see many other areas in tech that I think would satisfy me. I have been fascinated about weather phenomenon my whole life and have been recently thinking about the potential of going back to school to learn more about it and shift my career towards it. In this process I have found myself completely overwhelmed by the application process and researching of schools. I guess my question is does anyone have any advice on what I should first do? I live in Florida, and have found that FSU has a great program, however something that confuses me is the aspect of doing research which is something that they mention to inquire about before sending an application. I do not really know what the process of doing research at the university level entails so would just love to hear any advice on this in particular or any resource I should checkout. Thank you in advanced!

How do I know if I am good enough to apply for a masters at Oxford?

I am in my final year of my Bachelor's degree in Biology from a third world country (Uni ranking 350-400), I am starting to look at a master's degree across Europe. Applying to Oxford/cambridge/imperial didn't even cross my mind. But I recently thought about it, however I don't know if I should even put the effort, time and money into an application if there's no way I can get in logically. I am also kind of embarrassed to even ask my recommenders to write a recommendation letter if it is such a reach. Is there some kind of litmus test to know whether I should even bother?

Deciding credits for undergrad internship

Hi, everyone! I'm a senior undergraduate psychology student and have the opportunity to take an internship next semester. I could either do a 10-hour-per-week internship, giving me more time to also work a job and earn some money, or do a 20-hour-per-week internship and not be able to work very much. I do not need the money desperately, but would like to save some for grad school. However, would working the 20-hour internship look significantly better on applications than 10-hour + paid job? Or are they seen as pretty equal?

For more context, I want to study school psychology in grad school. My internship would either be school psych, counseling, or child therapy. My paid job would be a daycare, so still related but not as on-the-nose as the aforementioned options.

Thank you so much in advance for the advice.

Bachelor Programs

I know it's undergrad so it probably isn't that huge a deal, but I got accepted to CSU channel Islands online program and Arizona State online program. (I had also applied to sjsu online and there is some funny stuff going on with their admission right now but it's provisional accepted right now) So now I am in this back and forth of which college to go with. I am in CA and do plan to go masters. It kind of seems that ASU is ranked better and has more specialization options, but I'd need to be careful which classes I did to ensure I'm set up well for licensure in California. Channel Islands really isn't ranked (on some places but is on others?) but is streamlined for California licensure. It seems like cost wise CI is lowest, then ASU, then SJSU. Anyone have insight to any of these three or any advice?

Experiences applying to anthropology Master's/Ph.D. programs (specifically biological anthropology)

Hello, I am currently applying to my first school of choice, which offers a blended Master's and Ph.D. program in anthropology. My question is: What was your experience with applying anthropology graduate programs? I am under the impression that they are extremely competitive due to what I have heard having to advance your anthro degree to even use it. I have one field experience doing electrofishing and measuring marine life and another doing bioarcheology. And then I have lab bioarch (NAGPRA) experience at two different labs and then also lab experience in an entomology lab (In total approximately 3 years experience volunteering). I also have two minors in linguistics and clinical psychology.

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences!
