(Before I start, I will admit I took this from r/goth Fashion Wiki page, but since this is essentially a sister subreddit, it's not a crime.)
Though not a requirement, many goths like to dress in dark/alternative fashion and/or model themselves after their favourite goth musicians.
We tend to recommend a mixture of DIY, thrifting/charity shops and within moderation, branded clothing or items. Additionally, you can always support your favourite bands, musicians, and artists by buying their merchandise from their official shops and/or Bandcamp pages. RedBubble and/or other licensed shops are also options.
You can use online second-hand websites to search for these brands as sometimes people buy clothing they don't wear and then sell them with their tags still attached. Buying second-hand is a great way to grab a bargain, be "green" and even, if you're wary, to not giving your money to a brand who may or may not be using "goth" as a way to make profit e.g. taking our subculture and selling it back to us with fast fashion, poor quality clothing, etc.
Cadaver Kelly put together a Second-Hand Alternative Brands List to use use as an alternative to thrifting or charity shops, since not everyone is fortunate to have one near by. The content is listed below but we may update from time to time.
We most likely won't be listing make-up brands as you can practically buy dark eye shadow, lipstick, etc. absolutely anywhere these days. The list would be mega long and we can't always tell if the brands are ethically sourced, so we would prefer not to try.
If you’re looking for how frame/to take better fashion photos, see here.
Disclaimer: D*llskill are on the blacklist and we do not recommend buying from them, given their history of racism and cultural appropriation, ableism, stolen designs, etc. This also includes Killstar, as they are also problematic. Information page coming shortly.
A large part of goth is the DIY and thrifting, if you're interested you can visit Off-The-Rack Goth Brands by Caroline Sometimes and watch, view, or save a DIY Clothing playlist on YouTube.

I just want everyone to know that you can control who can DM you.
We shouldn't have to do this, however, it may save a lot of unsolicited DMs from creeps we can't see harassing/abusing our members because they've not commented in the subreddit.
If you go to your settings and then choose the "Chat & Messaging", there's an options to:
I hope this helps anyone, even if it's just one single person.

2nd pic is a makeup look from a different time that I'm thinking would look better bolder; maybe darker eye shadow and more smudging...somehow.
Also, has anyone had issues with glasses pads rubbing off white foundation? I'd love to make some and try it out, but I forsee issues since my glasses slide a lot.
As for the outfit, I just feel like something's off, like there could be more accessories. I don't have any rings atm, and I don't really do my nails since I cut them every few days for sensory reasons. A thick choker might clash with the smaller necklaces.
Might y'all have ideas for any improvements?

I've been seeing people calling out Lip Service lately over accusations of fascist sympathies and support for genocides, and it's made me wonder what everyone here thinks about the brand as a whole.
Honestly, even putting the political controversy aside for a moment, I feel like Lip Service has had some serious quality issues for a while now. I know the brand has a long history in alternative fashion, and I understand why people feel attached to it, especially those who grew up wearing their pieces or collecting vintage Lip Service. Some of their older designs are genuinely iconic, and I can see why people still love them. But I feel like the reputation of the brand sometimes makes people overlook how disappointing the actual products can be, especially nowadays.
My biggest issue is the quality-to-price ratio. A lot of their current pieces seem ridiculously expensive for the materials they're made from. Faux leather can be a good alternative to real leather, but the problem is that many faux leather garments deteriorate, peel, or crack over time, sometimes even when you take good care of them. PVC can also have a relatively short lifespan depending on its composition, construction, storage, and how often you wear it. And then you have polyester garments being sold at prices that, in my opinion, are difficult to justify.
I'm not saying that every synthetic material is automatically bad or that expensive clothing must always be made from natural fabrics. I love PVC and alternative fashion myself! But if I'm paying a premium price for a garment, I expect decent construction, materials that won't fall apart after a relatively short time, and an overall level of quality that justifies the cost. I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation.
What frustrates me is that alternative fashion is already expensive and, depending on where you live, sometimes incredibly difficult to access. For those of us who have to import everything, the price of the garment is only part of the problem. Shipping, taxes, and import fees can make a single piece cost a small fortune. Spending that much money on something that might start peeling or deteriorating after a few years — or potentially sooner — is really disappointing.
I also think there's a difference between paying for an iconic design and paying for a brand name. I would happily spend more on a well-made vintage piece with a unique design that I know I'll treasure for years. But I find it much harder to justify paying similar prices for a newer garment when the materials and durability don't seem to match the price tag.
And now, with the political controversy surrounding the brand, I'm wondering whether people are reconsidering their support for it, or whether the designs and nostalgia are enough for them to keep buying from them.
So, what do you guys think about Lip Service? Do you think the brand still deserves its reputation in alternative fashion, particularly when it comes to its current collections? Have you had good experiences with their newer pieces, or have you also been disappointed by the quality? And how do you feel about the recent political controversy?
I'm genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives, especially from people who own both vintage and newer Lip Service pieces. I don't want to dismiss the brand's history or the people who love it, but I do think it's worth discussing whether the quality and the price are still justified today.

Tried a vintage inspired hairstyle to go to my local alt dive, I think it turned out really well!

Was eyeing some "goth/Punk" boots on amazon. They either end up over my budget or are not very durable. I want to put more effort into my appearance with a darker type of fashion without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

Hello! I'm trying to find cute knee high boots for the fall, but my calves are super muscular. When I measured them last, they were 16 inches in circumference, even though I'm only a size 6.5 in women's shoes.
I would love something with a platform and laces up, without me having to pull the top laces out super far to accommodate. I feel like most regular boots don't have a chance of fitting, but wide calf boots themselves might be too big...?
Anyways, any brand recommendations would be amazing! No budget for now, but ideally not over $250. Thanks!

Can you guys show me your everyday makeup (if you wear any). I’m trying to get inspiration. I want to makeup during the week but it has to be tame, I work with kids so I deal with the teachers/parents so I don’t want anything crazy. And if I’m not working then I’m at school and I’m too tired and lazy for too much intricate flashy makeup. TIA!

So I've done this kind of look before with heavy help from my girlfriend, but I'm trying to do it myself and get better at it. My main concern is that I have 0 clue how to do black lines / patterns. And how to get a matte like finish on the white face paint. When I do it, it feels kinda cheaply made.
Any and all advice welcome please 🙏 product links too of course. We bought a white face paint that was well reviewed on Amazon some time ago, but I can't remember the name.

I'm trying to find really solid quality brands that I can get these style of clothes from, namely for my boyfriend. I'm not too familiar with any past like Dracula Clothing of which I've heard has kinda mid to cheap-ish quality from other people I've seen review wise with their stuff over the years.
Thank you!
