CarPorn The Edition50 wheels look stunningly vibrant up close.
Some pics directly from the assembly line and a less than a few hours old Edition50. (Still missing center caps, those get added in the final finish later)
The red finish on the wheels looks so vibrant. Gonna be sad to see these go once we finish production of the Edition 50 GTI Limited Edition.

Maintenance Turbo went bad and should be covered under CARB warranty, but dealer is saying car has been flagged as modified and denying coverage
In 2019 I bought my certified pre-owned 2017 GTi from a local dealer. September 2021 my turbo failed, but it was covered under the factory warranty and the dealer replaced it with no fuss. Fast forward to last month where it started having issues again. Brought it to my regular mechanic and he discovered the turbo was bad. I thought I was screwed, but he said he checked with VW online and since we live in MA and my car was a PZEV, it should be covered under the CARB warranty. I had never heard of that before, so I looked it up and it sure sounded like it would be covered.
So I called the service center where I purchased the car and explained the situation. The guy told me it was not covered because the factory and extended warranties had expired. When I told him I thought it should be covered by the CARB warranty, he put me on hold to discuss with the warranty manager. He came back on the line and said that normally they would have to schedule an appointment and do their own diagnosis to see if it would be covered, but that my car has been flagged as 'having been modified', so it would not be covered under warranty.
Thing is my car has never been modified. Not by me, anyway. It was certified pre-owned from the dealer, so unless it was modified by the previous owner before they sold it to me, someone made a mistake or they are lying to get out of doing the warranty repair. When I told him it's never been modified, he said that's what they have in the system and there was nothing he could do about it. At that point, I insisted and told him that I would need him to tell me why it's been flagged, when it was flagged and who flagged it so we can fix the problem. He said that information was not available and he would have to get back to me, but (as expected) I never heard from him again.
So tomorrow I'm going to stop in and get some answers, but wanted some input beforehand. My question is how does a car get 'flagged as modified'? Are they suggesting that the car has been chipped? Can they check that in the ECU or something, like is there a datestamp that shows the last time it was flashed? My car is bone stock and I have no idea why it wold have been flagged. Doesn't seem right that they can just say it's been modified and deny warranty work without any supporting documentation. They're going to have to show me some hard proof beyond "trust us, bro", but not sure what to ask them for or how I can prove that the car has not been modified since I've owned it. Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Maintenance refrigerant operating temperature
Hi! I'd like to know if the coolant temperature in my GTI MK5 30ED is within its optimal range. On the highway, it's between 90 and 93 degrees Celsius. When it's cold, it can drop to 88 degrees. Thanks.

Maintenance Can this cause an interior leak?
So I’ve been intermittently dealing with the ol’ sunroof leak (I’ve posted about it previously). None of the normal culprits seem to be causing it. My question is, could this area be causing it? It’s the top seal of the windshield.

Maintenance This thing is starting to annoy me
My GTI is beginning to piss me off. It’s a 2017 autobahn edition (EDIT: USA, DSG gearbox) and the problems multiply:
- the motor on my passenger side headlight is giving me an AFS fault. This is causing both headlights to point down when on, giving me dogshit lighting when driving at night. My mechanic says I need an entirely new headlight assembly (check me on that)
- I just got the new IPhone 18 pro max. Good news: camera is like a sniper scope. Bad news: it disconnects from CarPlay every 5-10 minutes and makes the entire head unit freeze.
Mostly here to rant, but any pointers appreciated

Modding Talk winter look
hey guys, this is a render for now but i want to get my wheel fitment right. Aodhan has 19” and 18” but they’re 8.5 and ET35. my car is lowered on H&R sport (about 1.6in drop) thats about 40mm.
i wanted to know what the best setup would be to run ET35’s without too much poke? I don’t want a super meaty look, the one in the image is what im going for

Buy/Lease Did these wheels come from factory in the 25 model year? Or are these aftermarket?
Also , are they any good? Or should I just keep my search to something that has the standard wheels.

New Car My first GTI - Stance seems off
I just picked up this clean GTI and after comparing it to others it seems the rear end is too high. What does everyone think?
Can I do springs only or should I get all new strut assemblies all around?

Buy/Lease 2022 GTI se lemon title advice!
Looking at a heavily discounted 2022 GTI se with a lemon title. I absolutely love the idea of a GTI but the lemon title concerns me. Apparently the first owner had issues with the infotainment system and it would shut off. Carfax shows they replaced the steering wheel in 2023 and then a radio replacement in 2025 after the second owner. Dealership claims it works well now and has zero issues. If I got an independent inspection or maybe even tried to negotiate a 20k/2yr warranty on the electronics do y'all think the deal would be worth it ($8500 discount from KBB)?

Modding Talk New Shoes for the MK8.5
Recently got an MK8.5 in Slate Blue, and I had this vision for it in my mind.
I was nervous it would look weird since I haven’t seen any MK8 with this color combo yet, but I’d say it turned out well!
For those of you who want to know, I’ll save you the trouble of asking in the comments for wheel specs:
These are 18 x 8.5 Vors TR4 in white, on the stock tires (225 r18). Stock ride height.

Poll Best color for 2027
Now that moonstone is gone for 2027, what’s the best color?
I really hope there is a special edition this year and we get like a nice green or something.. but I’m not gonna get my hopes up. KESSY on the base trim worth more than one less color?

Maintenance The great oil debate
Everyone by now knows about the oil debate for the 18+ 2.0, I personally have a 21 DKFA stock with 140k miles running 508 00 0W-20 and want to switch to 5w-30/40 but have yet to see legitimate proof that in stock form these should be running anything but manufacture spec oil. I agree that when tuned these should be using a thicker weight oil because they are operating outside of design, but to this day no one can provide actual evidence that running 0w-20 isn’t safe for stock applications especially with high mileage, so my question is does anyone have any real proof that 5w-30/40 can be run in stock motors without any long term effects? I know the oil pump is allegedly backwards compatible but has that actually been confirmed or just assumptions? Everyone resorts to saying that the 15-18 gen 3 run 5-40 stock and are essentially the same engine but in my opinion those earlier motors were a more crude design not focused on economy as much as the later gen 3, no variable timing solenoids or variable oil pumps and whatnot so it does make me wonder if a thicker oil is good for these that were designed around the 0w-20 oil. Please let me know your thoughts🤝

Maintenance Guess that noise 20-30seconds
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Best heard at end of video Got this noise it sounds like its coming from the read, its like a droning noise, youll hear it more after 20 seconds. This noise still exists when I turn engine off and in neutral rolling , there's no bouncing so I dont think its balancing. Could it be general shitty tires, a bearing , ignore the loss of traction noises.

New Car First vw
Just traded my 22 Subaru Impreza sport cvt in for one of my realistic dream cars, 2024 gti s. Absolutely loving the turbo 4 cylinder with the dsg trans. My last German car which was a 2013 bmw 320i scared me away from them for a while with all of it's problems so I'm hoping the gti turns out to be more reliable. For a "base model" it is packed full of features you can barely find on mid trims of other cars. Hope it's ready for the many Michigan winters it will see but from what I've heard they do ok as long as you drive sensibly. Up next is some tint and maybe yellow overlays for the fog lights. The first major mod I wanna do is pay it off but until then she'll stay pretty stock. Is there anything specific I need to keep an eye on to help her stay reliable?

Maintenance Sad day.
Was on the way to my paint correction / ceramic coat appointment and hit a chunk of concrete in the middle of a curve that I couldn’t see. Absolutely destroyed my wheel. I’m hoping the tire is savable and it looks like it knocked my front bumper out of alignment as well. You can kinda see the gap in the pic the other side is not like this. Just curious for others that have bent / broke a wheel were you able to save your tire? Also curious if anybody has any thoughts on the gap in the bumper. Could it just be a loose pin or could I have bent the bumper? I imagine the wheel came up and smacked it from the impact. Having it towed to a shop (thunder bunny racing) that installed all the parts for Apr stage 2 the wheels/ tires and sway bars. They also did a “spirited alignment” on the car as well to give it better turn in. Tia!
Modding Talk 17" wheel fitment
Hello fellow 17 inchers.
I'm in the market for some 17" wheels to use as my winter set and was curious what you guys are running.
From what I'm reading online the fitment between the rim and caliper is super tight and not all 17" wheels will fit, considering wheel weights as well.
Pic of my bone stock (for now) setup for attention.
