Discussion 1440x1080 vs 1080x1080
Recently got back into CS2 after 10+ years, I bought a Zowie monitor which has been amazing and have been switching between 1280x960, 1280x1080 and 1440x1080. For the past month 1440x1080 has been my main resolution but something has just felt off. My confidence with peaking and my headshot percentage especially with moving or strafing targets has been horrible. Even with consistent aim training, 1v1 servers, death matching, warming up, etc.
After changing to 1080x1080 all of that has changed and I feel so much more confident and my hs% has been completely different. With that being said, the tradeoffs of 1080x1080 seem fairly significant with the amount of horizontal information/ FOV you lose. I was wondering if anyone has a good resolution that is between 1080x1080 and 1440x1080 that still has that majorly stretched effect that they enjoy using?

Too obsessed with resolution bruh. Just play native unless you’re getting low fps

I play native res, imho theres no reason to use anything else in 2026 unless your aim is so used to 4:3. In which case you should know the answer already.

good aim doesnt care about variables such as resolution, sensitivity or even fps
take a look at world best aimers in kovaaks, they change fov and sensitivity per scenario
its all about how good your hand eye coordination is, meaning good sleep and proper diet is more important than resolution as boring as it is

I mean comparing aim in an aim trainer vs aim in a real game with X many things going on in your head isn't really fair.
it's easy to swap sens and be good in DM or kovaaks but not the same ingame

aiming is aiming, act of motoric corrections based on visual stimuli. could be basketball, golfing, kovaaks or cs
not sure how what youre saying is relevant to your comment or discussion we have. yes there is many more factors in game, but no good player is thinking about their aim in game. its a reflex, and if you have decent motoric control sensitivity wont matter, its not something u think about
think in example of basketball, player is trying to shoot but is guarded and possibly pushed by opposing player - his motor control will adapt to forces the other player is applying on him and he will compensate to hit that net, and its all automatic
also pro kovaaks have lots of going in their head too, pressure of hitting pr is quite high and one really has to be tuned in and in flow to hit desired %

It's all in your head. I can play whatever res and my performance doesn't change. I'd say you should play native as there isn't any reason not to. But if the game feels better on stretched res id say play on 3:2 or maximum 4:3, going more stretched isn't worth the fov loss for a placebo effect

man i went through almost the exact same thing when i came back. 1440x1080 felt perfect on paper but my flicks were always just a bit off and i couldnt figure out why. something about the horizontal model speed vs vertical was messing with my brain
i landed on 1352x1080 and never looked back. its that weird middle ground where the stretch is still super noticeable but the fov loss isnt as punishing as 1080x1080. targets feel wider without turning the game into a fisheye mess
try it for a few days in dm and see if it clicks. took me about a week to stop second guessing myself but now it feels like the best of both worlds

Shit I might aswell go back to 1280x1080 and try that again. Since it’s a common resolution and it’s more stretched than the option you said. The clarity and sharpness trade off from 1440x1080 is significant though. If that feels weird still I’ll give your res a go!

1350x1080 user here:
1280x1080 is not a common resultion. 1350x1080 is. It’s 5:4 aspect ratio, same as 1280x1024, but higher quality.

If you're so undecided, maybe it's time to switch to a proper aspect ratio of 3:2 = 15:10 = 13.5:9
3:2 res examples:
960x640 1080x720 = carrot / potato + needs scale all small fonts tweak
1152x768 1440x960 1620x1080 = low / med / high @1080p
1536x1024 1920x1280 2160x1440 = low / med / high @1440p
enable GPU Scaling if available and then use SRE to define them / custom res in driver3:2 is a compromise between 5:4 and 16:9, a bit more stretched than 16:10 but not as exaggerated as 4:3, it has good perceived speed, crosshairs look fine, everything looks proportional at distance and it gives better image quality - specially at 27inch and above where using 1:1 (clowns), 5:4 (blind) or even 4:3 is not a good idea

1280x1080 i’m in the same boat and there are times where 1080 just feels like too much but as long as u stick to one and play with it for a while you’ll be more used to it

1080x1080 is a tiktok gimmick res nobody actually uses it
